It’s been a while since I’ve had to ask after a story so here goes.

I can’t remember if I read it on here or on ff.net, but it definitely wasn’t on AO3; although it could be there now for all I know.

It took place in modern times, and demons, half-demons, and powers were still around.

Kagome was a savant, people called her a freak because of it, and she used her abilities to make money for her family. She did this because her mother was an alcoholic I think. I think only Sango knew of her abilities.

Rin is the sister of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha. She is kidnapped and held for ransom. No one can find her location and Sango calls Kagome as a last resort to help.

Kagome goes and looks over the information and is able to find a pattern or something and ends up finding Rin’s location in a matter of hours.

Sesshomaru’s father realizes that Kagome would be targeted now that her ability was out in the open so he has Sesshomaru act as her escort and protection.

Sesshomaru doesn’t particularly want to do it and resents having to essentially babysit, and he picks on her a bit but then starts to enjoy her responses and ends up hurting her feelings.

He apologizes and explains himself the next morning and they start to get to know each other. I think it’s shortly after or during the getting to know each other process that he and his beast begin to like her or choose her as their mate.

So he starts to subtly court her to build her feelings for him and get her use to his presence.

Also while this is happening Kagome is helping to plan Inuyasha and Kikyou’s wedding. Kikyou is being all kinds of demanding and insulting but she puts up with it because of her friendship with Inuyasha.

There was a cake tasting where Kouga briefly makes an appearance, and Sesshomaru was not happy about it.

I recall that it was Inuyasha’s mother that clued Kagome in on Sesshomaru’s feelings for her.

I also recall Kikyou being angry and/or jealous of the attention Sesshomaru showed Kagome, and eventually tried to call her a whore or something because she slept with Sesshomaru when they were mating.

I recall that Kikyou tried to insult her by emphasizing that she was getting married before getting mated, but then was corrected by someone saying that the mating was more important and the quickness was an indication of the strong feelings of the demon. Or something to that effect.

I think during this time is where Kagome hits Kikyou. I think Kikyou might have slapped her first; cutting into her face with the ring she wore.

I also recall that Naraku was some kind of villain in the story. He had Kagome’s home blown up trying to kill Sesshomaru, and kidnapped Kagome.

I also recall Kagura being friends with Kikyou, but it was only so she could be connected to Sesshomaru and Inuyasha’s family. I can’t remember if it was for herself or if she had a connection to Naraku and that’s why.

Also Kagome has her spiritual power, but never trained it because she didn’t want to be seen as more of a freak. I think because of that it can hurt her or others if she tries to use it or if it comes out unconsciously.

I recall Naraku being killed in the end, but I can’t remember if it was during Kagome’s rescue or afterward.

I can’t be sure if I’m remembering right or if it’s just wishful thinking but I think Kikyou somehow had something to do with Kagome’s kidnapping. Like maybe she told someone some info or something. But I think the wedding was called off because of it.

I think Miroku and Sango got engaged at the beginning of the story and Kagome found out by overhearing their plans to celebrate and was hurt that she hadn’t been told.

And of course Inuyasha is sprinkled throughout the story. I think Kagome had a crush on him before he and Kikyou got together, and that’s what Kikyou’s issue with her is.
