I've been writing fanfics for a awhile and I keep hearing about betas. Umm what are they and how do I get one?

A beta is someone who will do anything from simply editing your story to helping out with ideas/writer's block to poking you to get you to keep to an updating schedule. I've seen a few people post to the dokuga forums asking for a beta, and what they need the beta to do (edit, idea help, etc). People who want to volunteer will either send a PM or reply to the forum.
