Rowdys girl (Chapter 29) - Thu 06 May 2010

There's nothing like jumping into a calm pool for a swim only to find out you've jumped into the La Brea Tar Pits. That's pretty much what a rush to marriage is. Excellent point made, Monty!

Rowdys girl (Chapter 28) - Thu 06 May 2010

*Picks up heavy-duty stick* Show me where those unfaithful weasels are! And then point me at the idiot women who think it's okay for a man to treat them like a doormat! Such stupidity should hurt!

Someone (Chapter 27) - Mon 05 Apr 2010

Let's start easy...thank you! THANK YOU! This needed to be posted, it really did. People are writing shit and believe it to be...I don't know really...good, I guess. For exemple: I, as a non-american/english, am often totally confused by the names and labels used in fics.

By the way, thank god, you gave the spelling mistakes an own chapter, because it really freaks me out!  In the place, where I learned English "we're", "where" and "were" were different and this kind of messes with my head, now I tend to try to overread it, if the story is interessting enough, that is. Same goes for "their", "there" "they're"....

You deserve praise for pointing out the most annoying and commonly  made mistakes, and in such a funny way to ^^

Keep up the good work!

aisxo (Chapter 23) - Mon 22 Mar 2010

Ahh!! That was painful! And you're right, when people are actually SERIOUS about that... that... ::twitch::

Sion Alphaios (Chapter 27) - Sat 20 Mar 2010

Thank you for writing this. Not only was it entertaining but it was also enlightening. Some of the mistakes you mentioned I'd never even heard of! This parody should actually be read by others outside of the fandom as well since I've noticed many of the same mistakes in my classmates' writing. Great idea, great execution.

Tomoe (Chapter 27) - Wed 04 Nov 2009

First, I really think this should be made as a guide. You nailed the most annoying flaws found in fanfiction. I really wish, too, that authors would grow wiser with this but I won't hold my breath waiting. The fact is that most of them aren't mature enough yet. Wich is, all things considered, not so bad as long as they get constructives critics and let themselve hone their skills on it.

In that last chapter about americanized Japan, I feel you left out the two things that I frequently find in fics and that irritate me to no end: The fact that Kagome or any others of the teenagers own a car. In the big cities of Japan, the density of population would make traffic jam an unsolvable problem, so it appear you have to justify ownership of a parking lot to buy a car. That is how they were able to get most people to use public transportation, and why not any families own a car. Those who does would only have a family car and certainly not one for their children.

On that line of thought, I never saw a parking place on the street at the botton of the shrine steps, so we can be sure that the Higurashi family can't own a car at all. It seem that those authors can't imagine a country with a public transportation so developped  (omnipresent everywhere, with frequent enough stops at any places) in cities and between cities, that not owning a car isn't limiting deplacements at all.

The second is furthening the first: where they have a character coming to pick another at it's home in his(her) car and honking to let them know that they're here and get them out of the house. For a french like me, disturbing the whole neighborhood with a lound noise just to spare oneself the trouble a little walk down a lane to ring the doorbell (and appropriately greet the family face to face) is just so rude! I had a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact it seemed actually done where those authors were from! I can't imagine how a japanese, whose whole culture is centered on the respect of others would react to that level of egocentrism.

Well, that was my two cents on the subject. I don't review often because i'm writting so slowly (no matter wich language I use), but I at least want to take the opportunity to praise you for you gearst story telling skills and carracterisation. I've read all your works, and am currently hooked on "Cultural Differences". So Thank You!

Samantha (Chapter 27) - Mon 26 Oct 2009

i've got another annoying thing...... i'm reading this one fic where the 3rd chapter is nothing but everyones minds going over what just happened in the last 2 chapters... i mean seriously? do authors have to rewrite things to catch you up when it's just a click of a button on the computer unlike a tv show where they catch you up from last weeks eps.???????

EssaSteph (Chapter 27) - Sat 17 Oct 2009

Seriously, everything made me laugh xD

I've been reading, writing and beta-reading fanfiction on and off for years,

And all of this is so true, the cliches, bad grammar, un-original plots... everything.

Sakura Hisakwa (Chapter 27) - Wed 14 Oct 2009

Some of this stuff that you are pointing out is true, I like it. you should add one about some people using japanese words without knowing the meaning of it. I've seen stuff out there like that and even though its not common its still an annoyance. Lawl, good bit on the Rape thing.

Quiet Whisper (Chapter 1) - Sun 11 Oct 2009

Ha pretty sure i've called Kikyou a clay pot a few times in my stories lol, chapter 4 was my fave though the whole wrentch, wither, and fallow thing was just to much. I don't know how many times i've read it and it's still as hilarious as the first time! Anywho this is an awesome Parody and thank you so much! It's really helped in some places!

Ash (Chapter 27) - Sat 10 Oct 2009

Finally!! Another thing is that the setting is in Japan and all Kagome's JAPANESE friends have American names. Honestly, how hard is it to type in 'Japanese names' in Google and use one of those. Geez, I just chalk it up to laziness.

Walter205 (Chapter 27) - Sat 10 Oct 2009

I just about died laughing when reading chapter 20. Other than that, I've just been nodding my head while catching up on the drabbles. >_>

Cheebers McGee (Chapter 4) - Sat 10 Oct 2009

I just read chapter 4, and I don't think I've had that much of  a giggle in a while. I wanted to thank you for poking fun, as I know I'm more than guilty of horrible judgment calls in writing. My last malaprop happened to be a typo- treat instead of threat- but it was enough to completely mess the mood of the chapter up. And while I know the value of spell checking and read-overs, like Inuyasha and Sango in this chapter, some just don't know the difference. Hopefully your humorous poke will get everyone reading a little more closely.

Thank you for sharing,

Bwise.

CritterWhisperer (Chapter 26) - Fri 09 Oct 2009

Amen to that!  I'm not a huge fan of stories with Kagome as a demon in CU, but if the situation has a good explanation, and Sesshoumaru was already showing an interest in her, I can give it a shot.  Whenever I see a summary stating something about Kagome hiding, or learning a secret about her family (What?  She's a demon?), I just skip over them.

Guest (Chapter 27) - Fri 09 Oct 2009

There are Victoria Secret's in a few other countries other than America. Same with PIzza Hut. Both are in Australia and Victoria Secret is also in england. Doesn't make them international I know.

Anonymous (Chapter 27) - Fri 09 Oct 2009

http://www.pizzahut.com/International.aspx

Pizza Hut is international so are a couple others you mentioned.  Thought they may not have actual stores there they can order them online and they do have similar stores there, just maybe not by the same name.  Most younger Japanese, especially females, are facinated with American things like music, clothing and the like.  American style weddings are a big thing right now over in Japan.  So they might not have the store names they get the products because they order them.

Nisou Tenshi (Chapter 26) - Wed 30 Sep 2009

Everything you have posted is so funny and so true. Literally, almost every chapter has touched on a pet peeve of mine and I am just glad I am not the only annoyed by them. I think this fic should literally be called The Fanfic Author's Handbook on What Not to Do. Because for all its hilarity, each chapter has a token that should be taken to heart.

shiningstar* (Chapter 26) - Tue 29 Sep 2009

oh, entertainment...  ^.^  great job on these, I wonder what will be next!

nere (Chapter 25) - Thu 24 Sep 2009
I've started reading this parody more on a whim than anything, mainly because I have yet to see many good parodies. But I like this one, it's bringing up a lot of issues I have with fanfictions - and, sadly enough, with a few printed novels. Once I see the first A/N in a text, I'm just about ready to stop reading the rest altogether. It has to be a really interesting plot to get me to continue. Same goes for the missing paragraphs, speech markers and punctuation. Though I tend to give more slack when it comes to punctuation. I'm a non-native English speaker. I learnt British English in school, but I'm aware that there are differenes especially between British and American English. As for the grammar and spelling issues, I've started reading over all the jumbled "where", "were" and "we're" cases. In a way, it's gotten so bad that I'm leafing through stories for the first use of definite/definitely to see if it's been warped into "definately" or "defiantly" or even something worse. I think the worst about all this is that those fanfiction stories get people, both natives and non-natives, confused about what the proper English is! It's happened to me a few times, but I don't think everyone would pick up a dictionary everytime they're confused about a grammar or vocab issue, sadly. And don't get me started on the whole txt/shorthand issue. If you hadn't given the difinition of "ONNA" at the end, I would've been stuck what the Japanese had to do with it all. Same with all the unexplained abbreviations and brand names that are perfectly normal for an American and/or English native-speaker, but require everyone else to google it and hope to find the right definition. But that brings me to another issue that you haven't picked up yet, or rather just touched up on: the clichéd Americanization in fanfiction. Most prominent for that are undoubtedly the (AU) highschool fics. I get that many of the teen writers incorporate their everyday experiences into those fic, but, damn, are those clichéd and repetetive... And while I can avoid them, it's much harder for CU fics where American (pop-)cultue is superimposed on a Japanese culture, modern or feudal. Sometimes I just wish it was less obvious, at least. I think I'll stop here. I just want to express my gratitude to you for pointing out all the things that annoy me in fanfiction. It's a great read and I really, really hope it'll get a few people to think a bit more about their writing. Keep the good stuff coming! [PS: I take full responsibility for all grammar or spelling mistakes in this review. I tried my best! ^^]

Tomosaho (Chapter 24) - Thu 17 Sep 2009
I always love reading your parodies, they really brighten my day. And you're right about so many of the cliches and mistakes made in Inuyasha fanfiction everywhere. I particularly love the 'dead clay pot' cliche and the 'male whores' one. Awesome. For an idea, I think a parody about the excessive use of Japanese would be great. I think that way too many writers rely on using Japanese words to create a Japanese feel to their work, to the point that they write rather stupid things in Japanese (like ningen onna miko, a perfectly redundant title that isn't even gramatically correct in Japanese or English). Some writers take it even further with putting full Japanese sentences in their work, and then don't bother to translate it. So annoying. But whatever you do, I bet I'm going to love it. Keep up the good work!
