Sesshoumaru actually hired Mukotsu to abduct Kagome so he could bust in, save her, and finally be her 'hero' without Inuyasha beating him to it. He threw a hissy fit because there were others there and he could not get the 'hero kiss' he was hoping for and blamed Mukotsu for his plans bing messed up so, he killed him.
