Kagome comes to the shiro and is assigned a guard, specifically an ice inuyoukai or kitsune. Said youkai is also an assassin or spy for Sesshumaru. He or his family is also from out of the country OR very far away from the Western Lands.

I remember one scene where Kagome is petting him while he's in his beast form.
