There was a fic about Kagome working for a youkai in America as his aid. There was a lot of political unrest about youkai to human relations. A youkai was killed so Sesshomaru comes to America for essentially a UN conference of Youkai, and that's how Kagome was reintroduced to her past allies.
There is a crazed monk trying to eradicate youkai and Kagome infiltrates to kill him.
Towards the end Kagome made an organization called EQUAL for inter-species relations
