I always understood the term "on the make" to refer to someone trying to pull a con job. I didn't think it had anything to do with sex or dating (or even drugs). It's possible that it has regional references, like... some places it means one thing, some places others? That makes it even more confusing though, doesn't it!

I know that in the UK, "on the pull" means you're going out to "pull" a sex partner (usually it's a reference to someone looking for a one night stand kind of thing), but I think it can also mean (if a girl were to say she was going out on the pull) that you're just looking for someone to snog/make out with for the night? Not always though, girls can go out looking for one night stands too! haha!

Originally, I believe it was a term to refer to making money illegally, but then it sort of evolved into a term for a man (or woman, though it was usually used by men) on the prowl. Not sure when exactly the term came from, though I'm guessing sometime in the '30s -- as I've heard it used in a lot of older movies.

So what it's like a one night stand type of thing? Actually this is the first time I've heard this term.

This is an odd one I'm sure, but I'm hoping someone can help me out:

"On the Make"

I've seen this term used in a couple of fanfics, and normally when I dont really get something I check the context, but for the life of me I cannot seem to grasp what this little phrase means. I feel like i'm missing something.

I Googled it and while it gave me a definition (obscure in my opinion) I still dont really get it.

Can somebody help me? And why do I get the feeling that its not as complicated as I'm making it out to be?

>.<

On the make is an older term used to refer to when someone is looking for a relationship -- most likely of a temporary nature. Basically, it's looking for a booty call.
