freedomwings26 (Chapter 14) - Mon 17 Aug 2015

It's been a while since I've read a story that has kept my interest. I especially wanted to review for this chapter because of the last sentence: where the rib protects the heart.

That is wonderfully written.

Anonymous (Chapter 45) - Sun 14 Sep 2014

I loved the story

nutter-owl (Chapter 45) - Mon 28 Jul 2014

For the most part, I LOVED this story. It's wonderfully crafted, and the plot is riveting. That being said, I feel like there are a couple holes in your story.

1. What about Heiki? The twins, especially Taku, had such strong feelings to kill the neko, but Heiki kinda just... disappeared. Their story really tugged on my heartstrings, but left unmentioned in the end.

2. I thought Taku was interested in Kaname. I guess inus can have other partners, but if so, this seemed somewhat unnecessary.

3. What happened to Shamrai?

4. Does Inuyasha ever realize that "Kikyou" was actually Shamrai?

4. This isn't exactly a hole, but WHY IS KAGOME SO FORGIVING!??!?!! It seems almost unnatural, and call me twisted, but it was really unsatisfying for everyone who wronged her to just walk away. What Inuyasha did was terrible, same with Sakura. It's all a bit too easygoing.

Sorry to bring up all these points : ( I really did enjoy reading Battle of Heart and Land (it's 3:40 in the morning as I write this, so that speaks for itself). I'll definitely be reading your other stories!

None (Chapter 1) - Mon 23 Jun 2014

Interesting start, although at certain parts of the story, it was a little predictable.  The flow of drama was at times a little over the top, or at times very underwhelming, especially when Kagome is in conflict with another character, or when Kagome should be in conflict with another character.

For example - Sesshoumaru is furious when he finds out whom his mother has chosen for his bride.  You even describe the reasons why he's so enraged, a.k.a that Kagome is human, a Miko, and capable of birthing a hanyou.  Sesshoumaru would essentially be repeating history.

Kagome however, having had her fate decided for her, without consultation, is furious for all of five seconds.  She accepts Inukimi's decision, even when she is manipulated into accepting it by way of blackmail.  If she doesn't marry Sesshomaru than he is denied his lands and inheritance, which would have been Kagome's fault.  He would have hated her.

I felt that Kagome was too 'soft' in this instance, too ready to roll over and accept it.  It would have been nice to see her with a little more 'teeth', and for her to bare them, act like an inuyoukai, and snap back at both Sesshoumaru and Inukimi for daring to decide her future without acknowledging that she alone has the right to decide her fate, regardless of their need for her.  It's a great shame.  It would have been good to see Kagome 'rock the boat'.

Although, Kagome does grow into her role, as Lady of the West over time, her actions might seem a little lacklustre.

For example when she sentences Sakura to be 'castrated' she relents, which is merciful, but the story does not show the dramatic side of this.  You seem to fall short of really getting into the depth of the action, the importance of Kagome showing mercy to Sakura who almost committed the equivalent of regicide and infanticide.

By rights in a medieval genre, Sakura should have been put to death for treachery of the highest order.  However Kagome's act of mercy doesn't seem that significant in the story.  Her leniency, despite Sakura's outrageous betrayal, is not capitalised on.  It's a great missed opportunity to really show the reader how right Kagome is to be the Lady of the West instead of Sakura, because she is fierce, and kind, and compassionate despite her own suffering, whereas Sakura is a manipulative shrew.

The story is good, don't get me wrong, it just fails to make the most of those moments that would really set it apart from other similar stories.  The spelling and grammar were good.  The punctuation was good too.  You did miss a word or two out here and there, but overall the flow was exceptional.  I just found at times that certain points in the story that were integral to the plot weren't taken hard or deep enough for me to really sit back and think 'Wow.  Just wow'.
