It was a pleasure knowing you

Here's a short one-shot. Got inspired by a song in spanish 'Fue Un Placer Conocerte' by Rocio Durcal. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: you know the drill; don't own both even if I wished it so.

"What are you doing?" She couldn't be doing what it looked like.

Not stopping with her packing, she replied "Isn't it obvious, I'm leaving."

Without fail, the ever inquisitive bro rose in question. She didn't need to face her mate, or soon-to-be former mate –if you can even call him that, considering he never felt her worthy enough to demean his royal self to mark her as such– to know his reactions, Kagome knew him that well. "There's nothing here for me anymore. Rin has married, my job is done."

Real, choking panic enveloped Sesshoumaru for the first time in his very long life. Why? I had thought...hadn't I shown her enough? And indeed he had. Kagome had seen, surprisingly, a recent change in him. The usually frigid Lord had been displaying more emotions these past two weeks than she'd ever seen in the entire 10 years or so of knowing him, though they've only actually lived together for half a year. Yes, it had taken quite long to get him to move beyond his pride to allow her close to him despite having proven herself more than deserving after he had witness her undying loyalty to his deceased younger brother InuYasha. To bad it was already too late.

"Kagome, look at this Sesshoumaru." He commanded, though he couldn't hide the pleading undertone.

Wow, he said her name, again. He'd been using it almost everyday now since the change and still, she couldn't get used to hearing it. The traveling miko had really believed the honor would never be bestowed upon her, not even in her dreams.

She sighed heavily, but acquiesced to his demand; she was done with her packing anyway. Looking straight into his eyes, she waited for him to say whatever the Western Lord needed to say. Kagome had actually planned on leaving without his notice, but things never go as we plan.

"What about your job as my mate?"

She could only roll her eyes before opening her mouth and baring her soul...

It was a pleasure knowing you,

And having you for a couple of months,

Even if those months were the beginning and the end,

Of a love so beautiful,

But it wasn't mutual,

And today I must to leave.

I had been very content with you,

I settled for nothing,

And today you'll be without me.

Even though you never said you loved me,

Today that I'm leaving,

You show me your love.

But I must leave,

Because I love you no more,

I don't know why,

It's just matters of the heart.

It was a pleasure knowing you,

And having you for a couple of months,

Even if those months were the beginning and the end,

Of a love so beautiful,

But it wasn't mutual,

And today I must to leave.

If you'd have loved me the way I had pleaded,

To love me even just a little,

To make me happy,

I'd have stayed with you forever,

But it was not to be,

And today I must to leave.

...with things cleared now, Kagome picked up her only belongings. She strode over to him stopping only to place a small, farewell kiss to a beautifully striped, large hand. It pained her to see such a powerful youkai hurting; however, there was nothing she could do.

"Goodbye, Sesshoumaru."
