What You Don't Know Will Never Hurt You Until It's Too Late

Song

It was the dawn of the last day; the battle of the earth with Naraku, Good and Evil entwining together, lovers whispering eachother's names in the throes of passion. The two armies, Light and Dark, hissed and spit at their fetters, longing for the rush of wind in their hair and the feel of blood sliding down their hungry throats. Killers on one end, murderers the other. The difference? The higher class scum -- scum? Where'd that come from? -- of the earth was not ruled by instinct alone, and followed the path to survival against the swarm of vermin held sway under the tainted power of Naraku.

The leaders of the resistance were gathered around a camp fire, an odd metal tea pot whistling over the open flames; ten bodies warmed themselves with the expanding heat, three demons, a hanyou, a kit, three human, and a neko mononoke.

"I still say she could be useful!" The hanyou argued angrily, dog ears furled flat against his silver skull, "She's changed since she released me of my promise. Why can't we use both of them against Naraku?" A petulant whine crept into his words, the puppy missed his clay pot. -- Man, since when was I so judgemental? -- Shut up you. -- Excuse me? -- ... -- Hello? ... Why am I talking to myself? Musta hid my head harder than I thought last time... --

"This Sesshoumaru does not repeat himself, the clay miko is a last resort and must be preserved as such while we confront the vile hanyou and his pitiful army." The Western Lord intoned with a slight growl edging his voice, his otouto's constant pining for the undead grating his nerves.

"Yeh, muttface, so shut it!" Kouga jumped in, a gleeful light glowing in his feral blue eyes. This wolf was the Eastern Lord? Ookami must not judge their leaders as highly as the inu. Ayame, his mate -- finally! -- quietly laid a hand on her alpha's shoulder, reminding him that he was not top dog of this pack, and that his mouth could get him killed.

"This meeting is over, we shall attack at sun rise as planned." Standing, Sesshoumaru turned his back on the group, presumably to secure his ward and Shippo in their protective holding; despite the dangers of the battlefield, it was honestly safer for the pups to stay close in a protective barrier so that Naraku could not snatch them unawares.

"Feh." The hanyou muttered a second time before jumping into an overhead tree. Sighing, the miko poured herself some tea, sapphire blue eyes staring moodily into the wisps of heat flowing from her cup. There was a strange itch in her throat, a thirst that could not be quenched by jasmine or water. Unknown to the brooding creature, her eyes took on a slight glow, lightening to luminescence.

"Oy! Wench! We're moving." InuYasha's harsh voice grated on her ears, jerking her awake from her day dreams, half remembered images of visiting... -- What? Visiting who? – Must have been her imagination. Squealing in pain as the burn of the hot liquid against her skin registers, she falls backwards from her log seat with a greater cry of pain.

"Stupid! What'd you do that for? Now you're all wet, and we don't have time to get you any replacement clothes." Scoffing at the reincarnation's stupidity, the arrogant puppy watches as she wrings out her shorts, "I'll have to see if Kikyo has any extras then." Kagome mutters glumly, she really didn't want to go into battle looking like the elder miko, and her pair of blue hakamas was stolen by some visiting animal during one of her last baths.

"Well get a move on then!" He commanded, or shouted, rather, "We aint got all day!"

Grunting, the time traveler turned and made her way into the far clearing where Kikyo was meditating, "I know already why you are here, a spare set is there, by the quiver of arrows I blessed for you." The ceramic pot intoned, waving her hand to a boulder a few feet away. Bobbing her head in acceptance, Kagome turns to gather her new outfit and ammunition. "Arigotou."

"Kagome," She whispered with a hint of longing, "watch him for me. Please." Bowing her head, the smaller miko nods a second time before vanishing into the trees, "I will, Kikyo...And, thank you."

Minutes later, the sapphire eyed girl emerged onto their side of the battlefield, the very incarnate of a battle priestess; trained heavily in the use of bow and holy powers, she was gifted as well with the use of a katana. Sango had taught her, though she wasn't nearly as good with it as her adoptive elder sister – or your imouto. – My what? I have a ... What was I thinking again?

Shaking the bleariness from her mind, the young miko steps forward between the two inu brothers of the West.

"It shall begin."

Nodding her ascent, Kagome pulls back the string of her long bow and fires a glowing flare into the air to signal their attack, "It shall end this day, one way or another."

They had been fighting for hours, it was just before noon and both sides had suffered heavy losses. Naraku had somehow obtained a new breed of demon, yet they had no youki, it was as though they were natural beasts. Drinkers of blood that could adapt their bodies for flight or fight, it was disconcerting to stare into the sea of glowing red eyes at every turn. They could not be killed easily, these beasts, it took complete decapitation or one of Kagome's arrows to keep them from regenerating.

The itch in the miko's throat had grown to full blown burning, it stole her breath and left her vision to triple dizzyingly at the worst of times, she lost count already of how many allies had taken a near miss from her distracted aim. Yet all the water in her canteen could not soothe the flames tearing her body apart.

Another bout of fainting caught her, sending her face first into the dirt. Prone. The strange beasts leapt for the exposed woman, slavering hungrily at the thought of tasting her flesh. Growling amongst themselves they bit and hissed, a stray claw nicking the semi conscious form's leg.

The scent of her blood drove them wild, their howls and snarls echoing across the battlefield in a rage. Retreating abruptly, they turned upon their former allies, tearing them limb from limb easily, glutting themselves on the sweet blood. What had changed?

"Kagome!" Sango cried, leaping from Kirara's back to kneel by her unofficial imouto, "'Gome-chan! Are you all right? Kags!" Shaking the young woman by the shoulders, she gasps at the painful grip the miko took upon her wrists.

"Kimiko?" She whispers, eyes closed tightly, "Is it time to visit Aunty?"

"What? Kagome, you aren't making any sense. It's me, Sango. Did you hit your head?"

"Sango...?" Sitting up slowly, the miko opens her eyes, "Do you hear it?" A crazed look entered her gently glowing eyes, "The song...Do you?!" Shaking the slayer now, the young woman looks desperately to the elder for answers.

"What? No, I don't hear anything...Kagome!" Staring after the fleeing woman incredulously, she follows closely at the other's heels, taking a grip upon her sword much like Kagome was doing now.

"Uta...Uta, uta, uta, uta, uta, uta!" Repeating the word senselessly to herself, the young woman charges into the fray, drawing her sword with reckless sweeps of the blade, "UTA!"

Baring blunt teeth in an impressive snarl, she screams, the sound eerily familiar to the howls of the brown creatures now surrounding the young woman, cutting her off from Sango's view.

Skewering a youkai that got too close, the crazed miko tore out its throat, crouching over her prize possessively as she drinks down the life giving blood. Leaping ferally for another victim, Kagome tears out its throat as well, guzzling the crimson substance greedily. Yet still the burn persisted. Howling, she severs the head of a third and laps at the pool of spreading life with an animalistic single mindedness.

Lifting her bloody chin, the glowing blue eyed miko hisses, raising her blade with a blur as she leaps over the corpses, moving towards the song that burned her blood and sent her heart thundering painfully, "UTA!"

Her allies were left to watch helplessly as the tiny blood soaked figure raced through the field of carnage to confront Naraku herself, their enemies too many to leave a flank uncovered and chase after the luminescent eyed figure. No one much wanted to either way, she was scary...Feral, powerful...Out of control.

Wind Scar after Wind Scar rent the air alongside Toukijin's energy attacks, splitting the oni forces neatly in half as the brother's cooperated to advance slowly upon the center of the battle where it would all end.

"Kagome..." InuYasha whimpered upon catching a glance of her, her back resembled a porcupine, so full of arrows was it, and strips of flesh hung from her limbs that seemed to heal before his worrying eyes.

"Naraku." Kagome growled in a guttering voice, the syllables harsh as they crawl from her throat, rubbed raw; she circled him slowly, ignoring the pains of her skin being torn from her body, the blood lust was upon her and it gave her unimaginable power.

"Miko." He greeted tauntingly, the almost completed orb of the Shikon no Tama hanging blackly around his pale throat, "Come to surrender your shards?" Kukukukukuku..." Flinging tentacle extensions at the bloody figure, he howls in outrage as they are cut from him in mid air.

This was not right! He was supposed to win. That was why he had forced the beasts' cooperation in his fight, to give him the extra advantage.

Shivering violently, Kagome grins hollowly as the arrows puncturing her back are pushed from her body to clatter to the floor, her eyes were glowing pools of light in the gathering cloud of miasma darkness. Lunging gracelessly at the hoard of demon parts connected to one ugly soul, she laughs as her blade cleaves countless appendages from the ugly form. "Uta..."

Halting a mere foot away from her prey, the strange miko opens her bloodied mouth to join the unheard voice in its song; the notes so pure and soaring, as though she were singing a private opera with herself and the other...Their voices blended perfectly into one song. A song of death and new beginnings.

The tainted sphere responded, pulsing blackly, a heart beat, before it tugged at the chain connecting it to Naraku, straining towards its priestess.

"No!" Throwing himself at the miko, no, the creature, he unsheathes his stolen claws to tear out her throat, "The power is mine!"

Thrusting her katana into Naraku's chest, the miko being grasps the tainted jewel and smiles cruelly, "It's mine, Naraku." Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she hugs the human seeming torso close to her, "And you will burn." Whispering the last words he'll ever hear, her teeth glint dangerously before burying themselves in his flesh. Taking a firm hold of the pulsing skin between her fangs, she pulls, effectively ripping out his throat. "Disgusting." Giggling, she drops the lifeless bundle, the jewel joining itself to the fragments around her neck.

"Disgusting...All of them. Not a tasty one in the lot." Pouting playfully, she kneels to shuck her shoes, smiling at the splatters of a darker red on her torn outfit, "I hope I can find one soon." Straightening, sheathing the blood covered blade, the glowing girl skips through the remains of the battle gaily, the mysterious brown creatures bowing to her before disappearing into the trees. Such unusual behaviour...They must be full.

Beaming, she stops beside a bubble gum pink haired demon, "Delicious." She coos, kneeling to take a sip of the leaking blood. Purring in satisfaction, she tears open her hand with the demon's claws, filling his mouth with her own blood and forcing him to swallow it before skipping away again to rejoin her companions, the glow in her eyes dimming somewhat as the song finally ends.

Nekette: Okay...So...It didn't go exactly as I planned...I might even rewrite it later. But here's my second story If you liked it at all, pleeeease review. Also...Any suggestions on the pink demon? And remember, first to guess the crossover wins a character insertion. Because I need another ___ for ___. [Blanks to be filled upon revealment in the story, though, there's already a hint for the second name.]

Oh! And if you can think of a better summary for me, tell. >.>
