Prologue

In a small dark chamber surround only by the thin glow of the moonlight, laid a very sick man whose loud coughs rocked his large body. Covered only by one thin silk sheet, a loud moan emitted from his lips.

"Father why do you have to die?" a small voice cried.

Lord Kai glanced over at his only daughter and forced his face into a smile. Slowly his hand crept out of the sheet of his bedding clasping around his daughters.

"Kagome you must stay strong," he whispered. "Stay strong not just for me, but for your people." Another loud cough emitted from his throat, shaking his body so hard Kagome received some of the impact also.

The Lord's long black hair was tangled, his bangs stuck to his face featuring how white his face really was. His body shook with another loud cough. It felt like his body was on fire, he had never felt this weak in his life. His body shined with a thin layer of cold sweat, as he tried to push his body into a sitting positive never letting go of his daughter's hand.

"Kagome," he gasped. "I will never you. I will always be watching. You will grow into the most beautiful, powerful woman these lands have ever seen."

A soft cry emerged from throat. Her tears that were just dried began to flow again soaking her cheeks. Her small hand squeezed her father's larger one, but she didn't feel him squeeze back.

"Please father," she cried desperately "Use your magic to save yourself!"

The lords stared into his daughter's ocean blue eyes. "This is something magic can't fix." he gasped, his voice slowly fading. A scorching pain burned through his body, forcing his body to fall onto his bed.

"Father!" Kagome screamed. "Please don't leave me!" She flung her small frame onto his chest. Grabbing his robes so tight in fear that his body would disappear. His breaths were so heavy her body was rising every time he breathed in.

Lord Kai knew he didn't have much time left. "Kagome look at me," he gasped. Kagome let out another strangled cry as she forced her body into a sitting position. Her eyes locked on to her dying father's. "Please don't live alone...have children...get marr-" his voice trailed off, as he took his last breath. His eyes closed as his body slumped backwards.

"Father...Father!" Kagome sobbed. She flung her body over the dead form of her farther. Her sobs were the only sound in the room.

"No!" Kagome cried flinging herself from her bed. She glanced around her large chamber, she was alone. Her hands covered her face as she tried to resume her normal breathing.

She silently removed her covers and walked towards the balcony. She rested her body against the frame staring at the full moon. 'Ten years,' she thought sadly. 'And yet he still haunts my dreams.'

The lord of the Southern Lands the world's most powerful sorcerer has been dead for ten years, leaving his only heir behind, her. Kagome sighed as she closed the doors and walked back inside her chamber. She sat in front of her mirror picking up her comb as she started to brush through her long black hair. Kagome just stared at her reflection. Her ivory skin was flawless, her lips full and red, her eyes the most beautiful shade of blue you have ever seen. Yet all she wanted to do was to smash her mirror destroying her perfect image. Slamming her comb on the table she rose out of the chair drawing her hand back and with the easiest effort her hand slammed into the mirror, shards of glass flew every where as she winced in pain. Fulfilling her desire. Drawing her now bloody hand back to her body she cradled her injured hand with her other hand.

"That was smart," she cursed. "Taking my anger out on the mirror."

Sitting on her bed so tore a long piece of the white silk nightgown with her good hand. Carefully she wrapped it around her injured hand.

Why was this happening to her? Her perfect thin body and beautiful face only reminded her of what she didn't have. What she wanted more then anything in the world. What no man had been able to give to her.

A child.
