- Funny Things In American Movies (It's a Book)

********

It was a bright sunny June day. The blossoms on the trees were falling in a heavenly manor the way it only looks in movies in my time. The perfect day for a wedding.

"I wish I could go too Kagome" Sango told me sadly, sitting on the lip of the well next to me. I wrapped my arms around her in a sisterly hug.

"Don't worry Sango; I'll take lots of pictures so you can see what it was like."

"Ok. Tell Yuka congratulations for me"

"I will" I told her. Yuka, my friend since fifth grade was getting married today, and I was her maid of honor. Now if only my date would hurry up and get here...

"Ok, let's get this thing over with" He groused, walking into the little clearing around the well. Same old InuYasha.

I sighed. "Goodbye Sango, see you in a few days!!!!" I told her, giving her another hug. "Tell Shippo and Miroku goodbye for me too ok? I can't imagine where they are"

"I can..." Sango growled.

"Don't automatically assume he's using Shippo to get to wemon again, don't worry, I'm sure they're just helping Kiede out with a chore or something."

She nodded glumly and handed me my big red bag that was sitting next to the well. I had graduated from the yellow bag I used to carry around. Ok I'm lying, it broke. I slung it over my shoulder and flipped my legs over to dangle in the well.

"Ok InuYasha, let's go!!" I said, jumping into the well.

The blue light surrounded InuYasha and I, and I knew the next thing I saw would be the inside of our little shrine at home. It felt good to be back.

********

I sat on the lip of the well for a while after that, peering into the darkness. I had never actually tried to jump into the well before, what if it let me in? Well...it was worth a try. I grabbed my hiricousu from the ground and slung it over my shoulder. If I did go through, I'd want my weapon just in case. I sat on the lip of the well with my feet dangling in, just as Kagome had and took a deep breath.

"Ok..." I steadied myself, and jumped in.

And landed.

"Owwww" I moaned, rubbing my backside where I had landed.

"You know, I could rub that for you" I heard for above me. Damn monk...

"This is hardly the time for jokes; could you please help me out of here?"

Miroku reached down into the well with his good hand and I grasped it, and used it as leverage to climb out the side of the well, and collapsed next to it.

"What were you doing?" He asked, sitting next to me.

"I'd never actually tried to go into the well before...so I was curious to see if I could really do it"

Miroku opened his mouth to answer me but turned his head sharply to the side instead, staring into the trees intently.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Kikyo" He whispered.

We both stood and he got into a protective stance in front of me. As if I needed it... And I grabbed my hiricousu. After a few moments she appeared out of the trees, her soul collectors spinning around her, her pale dead skin hard agenst her bones, her brown eyes cold, holding no expression, and her miko robes falling limp around her skinny body. That surprised me, how could a dead person look sick? Like she hadn't been fed?

"InuYasha isn't here" Miroku said, squeezing his staff.

"I know" Was her reply as she kept walking forward. She stood next to us by the well for a moment, both Miroku and I watching her suspiciously. She rested her hands agenst the well and stared into it like I had earlier. After a moment she raised her hands over the opening of the well and closed her eyes. Suddenly, a bright orange light appeared from her hands, and a ball of orange energy fell from her hands into the well. There was a flash of blinding light, and I had to look away. When the light receded, Kikyo took a step back from the well and began to walk away.

"What did you do?" I demanded.

She stopped and turned only her head back to me. "They will never come back"

"What do you mean?" I asked in horror.

"If I couldn't kill my reincarnation, and I couldn't take InuYasha to hell with me then I banished them from this time. I will never have to deal with either of them again, and I can die in peace" It was the longest speech I had ever heard Kikyo make, and when it was over I had nothing to say. I stared at her in mute horror as she left into the trees again, and Miroku and I were left alone. More alone than we've ever been.

I didn't relax my stance. Whatever the look was on my face was plastered there. I couldn't move. I couldn't think. All I knew was that they were gone, and they weren't coming back! I felt arms wrap around me, and knew it was Miroku. I heard a high-pitched sound coming from somewhere, and it distracted me.

"Shhhh Sango shhhh, I know" I heard him say. Was that sound me? I guess it was. I finally slumped into his arms and gave up trying to think. I just wanted to sleep.

********

"Sango? Sango!!!!" She passed out...I guess it was too much for her to handle. She lost more family. She had lost her entire family and village to Naraku, and now she lost her sister and friend to Kikyo. She lost far more then I did. I lost my father and now Kagome and InuYasha...but it wasn't as bad as Sango.

I held her close to me, and cried for the first time since my father died.

********

"Gah!! Kagome!"

"Just change already!!!! You only have to be in those cloths for a few hours!! So just do it ok?" I shoved him into the changing room and closed the curtain. Why was dressing a full grown man so difficult?

I sat down in a chair across from the dressing rooms to wait. We were in a tuxedo rental shop, and I was trying to get InuYasha to try on a tux. Not an easy task, that.

As I waited I decided to try to picture what the wedding would look like. It was going to be on the beach, with the reception in a large white tent. I had seen Yuka's dress and it was lovely, form fitting to the waist, with a billowing skirt of chiffon layers to the floor, a white satin flower on the right side, lines of hand-sewn beads down the torso, sleeveless, and all white. Yuka looked like a princess in that dress, and if you couldn't look and feel like a princess on your wedding day, then I don't know when you can.

"Hey, does this fit right?" I heard InuYasha ask. Squashing my fantasy of feeling like a princess on my wedding day.

I stood up and walked over to him, and looked him up and down. Just a few adjustments needed to be made. I had to tie his bowtie for him because he didn't know how; I smoothed the jacket out and buttoned the buttons, and put on his cuff links for him. When that was all done I took a step back and smiled. Oh yea, all men look great in tuxedos. Even Feudal Era Half-Demons with a quick tongue and an annoying attitude.

"You look great" I smiled.

"Really? I feel really stuffy"

"Nice word for it, but really, you look fantastic, I say we rent this one"

Back at home my mother helped me out with my dress. It was satin yellow, form fitting, V-necked, showing more of my chest than was really necessary, and the straps criss-crossed in the back. I put my hair into a low ponytail and my mother stuck a diamond hairpin into the band.

"You look lovely Kagome, tell Yuka congratulations for me" She said.

"I will" I smiled, picking up my camera and putting it in my white clutch.

I walked out of my old bedroom (I had moved out since high school) and down the stairs and into the kitchen where InuYasha was waiting for me.

He blushed when he saw how low my dress was and looked away. "You look great Kagome" He told the floor.

"Thank you InuYasha" I said, and we walked outside and got into the taxi.

I cried. I cried a lot. Yuka and Kenta were so cute together and the wedding was so romantic. They said their vows on the beach next to the crashing waves as the sun was setting. I couldn't think of a more romantic way to get married. I was walking with Eri and Ayumi to the white tent for the reception with InuYasha dragging behind when I saw someone very familiar.

I stopped in my tracks.

"Kagome, what's wrong?" Eri asked me, both of them stopping to look at me.

"Um, you two go on ahead, I have to talk to InuYasha for a minute"

"Ok..." Ayumi said, as they turned and walked through the flap in the tent.

"What's up Kagome? I want to try some of this cake you told me about." InuYasha asked impatiently.

I took a hold of his shirt and made him look me in the eye. "InuYasha, don't throw a fit ok? But I see someone in that tent that you should know"

"Who would I know from this era?" He asked, getting confused.

"Well, let's just say he survived since your era..." I said, getting nervous of his reaction.

"WHO Kagome?" He demanded.

"Sesshomaru" I pointed to the man with long silver hair talking to Yuka's dad right outside the tent.

InuYasha started to growl but I grabbed his arm. "No! You can't do anything!!!! Let's just pretend we don't know who he is. Maybe he forgot about us!!"

He gave me a disbelieving look. "Do you really expect me to try to enjoy a party in your era with SESSHOMARU standing RIGHT THERE?!?!" He whispered harshly.

"Yea, I do!" I insisted. "If he starts something then you can defend yourself, but ONLY if I say it's ok, understand?"

He looked at Sesshomaru for a moment and then back at me and nodded.

"Ok, let's just go eat some cake for now" I grabbed his arm and steered him towards the opening of the tent. I fully intended to pretend I didn't know who he was tonight, and who knows? 500 years could change a man.

After I got InuYasha his cake and had him seated at a table as far from Sesshomaru as was possible in the white tent I was tapped on the shoulder. The man behind me asked me to dance and I agreed. He was Kenta's best man. Kichiro I think his name was. He was handsome with dark brown hair and dark green eyes. We danced to two songs by the live band before someone asked if he could cut in. I had been facing the other direction to make eye contact with Yuka who was dancing with her husband when I heard the voice. I knew that voice!!!!

A new arm wrapped around my waist and a different right hand grasped my left. My eyes widened as I looked into honey gold eyes of Sesshomaru.

"Good evening" He said, and smirked at me. I started to panic and I looked over to where InuYasha was sitting, but he was talking and drinking with some guy, and not paying attention to me at all.

"You look very familiar, have we met before?"

I squeaked out a little panicked sound and he gave me a strange look.

"Are you alright?"

I HAD to keep it together. Never mind I was dancing with a man who had tried to kill me, what? A week ago? But I had to remind myself that that was 500 years ago for him. I swallowed bile and smiled up at him.

"Yes, I'm fine, sorry about that"

"I see...so have we met?"

"Yes...we have, I'm surprised you don't remember...then again, who would remember a lowly human like me?" I narrowed my eyes as I repeated the words he had said to me the last time we met and his eyes widened.

"Come with me" He demanded, and all but dragged me out of the tent and down the beach a little ways. He stopped and spun around to face me, some emotion I couldn't name in his eyes.

"How do you know I'm a demon?"

I sighed. Did he honestly not remember me? "Sesshomaru..."

"I never told you my name either." He said, grabbing my wrists tightly in his hands. "How. Do. You. Know. Me?" He said each word with force, squeezing my wrists tighter with every syllable.

"We met 500 years ago!!" I said, trying to wrench myself out of his grasp. "I travel with your brother InuYasha!"

His face went blank with surprise, and then dissolved into understanding. "I remember you now...the miko in revealing garments that the world wouldn't see until the 1950's. Tell me, how has a miko such as you survived 500 years?"

What should I do? Should I tell him about the well? He couldn't very well force me to help him use it because it only worked for InuYasha and I. "I...I can travel through time" I stammered. I could barely feel my arms anymore, I had lost circulation. But suddenly, he let go.

"Here" He handed me a business card and I took it from him. "This is my card, call me, we have things we need to discuss and remember...if you don't call me I have ways of tracking you down"

I nodded quickly and read the card. He was the head of some advertising company.

"Come, let's go back to the party" He held out his arm for me and I took it. For some reason, I wasn't afraid of this Sesshomaru. The one in the past I wasn't afraid of either, but I wasn't comfortable enough to take his arm. But in the past I could mouth off to him and not be afraid of the consequences.

He walked me back into the tent and stopped near the door. "Care to dance once more with this old demon?" He asked, a smirk creeping into his features.

I hesitated only a moment and then nodded. "Sure" He spun me onto the floor and all I could think about was how different this Sesshomaru was than the one in the past.

********

The ride in the taxi home with InuYasha was weird. He was going on and on about this cool guy he had met and befriended at the party, but for once, I wasn't listening when he talked to me, my mind was on Sesshomaru. He wanted me to call him and talk to him. That alone was weird. But then he had asked me to dance twice and even though he had grabbed my wrists to the point where I had blue bruises on the underside of my arms, I still didn't feel afraid of him. He was a whole new person with a personality and...facial expressions. I saw about five on his face just tonight and the whole seven years since I met him that first time he was trying to find tetsaiga I had seen...what? Two? I found I even sort of liked this new Sesshomaru. He was polite and proper, a good dancer, and didn't have that way of making me feel stupid when I talked like his brother did.

When the taxi arrived at my apartment I paid him and InuYasha led the way inside. He knew the way since four years ago when I moved into my own place he had helped me move my stuff, and ever since my mother's house had only been used to transport us to the past. We ate, slept, watched TV, and talked in my apartment. Although we did have the occasional dinner with my family when we were here because my mother missed me.

When we got inside InuYasha flopped down on the sofa like always and clicked the TV on.

"Kagome, got anything to eat?" He asked.

"Didn't you have enough at the reception?" I called from the kitchen, already looking in the pantry to see what I had.

"Not really" He called back.

I sighed and started boiling the water for ramen.

********

That night I had an awful time falling asleep, and when I did I dreamed.

I was in a cream colored kimono with brown, blue, and red flowers on it and my hair up in a delicate comb. I was sitting in a room on the floor by myself reading. I heard the door open and looked around and saw Sesshomaru. He was wearing dark green hakama and white haori. He walked over and sat in front of me.

"I remember you Miko" he murmured before taking the comb out of my hair and throwing it to the side as my hair billowed over my shoulders. Then he leaned in and kissed me. He lowered me to the floor and moved his face down to my chest, and moved my kimono over with his teeth leaving me exposed as he buried his face in my breasts.

"No Sesshomaru you mustn't!!!!" I said, even as my traitorous hands locked themselves in his fine silver hair and held him to me.

He chuckled ghostly

And then I woke up.

I sat up in bed and breathed deeply, trying to calm my nerves. I was shaking all over. Why would I have a dream like THAT? And about HIM?

********

"What the hell was that?" I said to the darkness, sitting up in bed. "Why would I be dreaming of her? I haven't thought about her in 500 years..."

I got up out of bed and paced up and down the length of the room. How would she have traveled through time? She must be from this time since back in the Feudal Era she would wear a fuku. Were other people able to go through time with her? Was InuYasha still alive today? That one made me stop. What if InuYasha traveled through time with her and was living here, in modern day Tokyo without my even knowing it? Also, how did she know the couple that was getting married last night? I saw her chatting with Yuka later...an old friend of hers? But if she was going through time then...how would she have met all these people from this time? Was she able to come and go at will? That whole time I thought she was tagging after my brother, when I didn't see her, was she really traveling through time back here? At this very moment, could she be talking to me in the past?

My mind was spinning in circles with questions only she could answer.

And what of that dream...
