There Is No Such Thing As Fun For the Whole Family.

The day was cold, wet, dreary, and grey. Kagome Higurashi did not see it as a sign, just the weather man being wrong again. The weather man seemed to be constantly wrong these days, so it didn't seem as if anything unusual would happen, just...unavoidable.

Kagome walked to school in the rain, her green umbrella held above her head protectively. When she walked in the grey doors of the school, she didn't feel comforted, just even more out of place.

Today was the first day of school. But this was not an ordinary new day. Kagome's family had moved, moved from her home in Japan all the way to the USA, and not even to some big place like California, New York, Florida, or Texas. Oh No. Her family had moved to Nebraska. Yes, Nebraska the home of the cornhuskers? Could these people not think of anything else to talk about except for the fact that they had a lot of corn...and that they husked it?

(A/N- I Live In Nebraska, So If U Live In Nebraska 2, Don't Feel Offended, lol)

What was wrong with these people?

Kagome stopped when she got in the doors. This school had two offices. One to her left and one to her right. Kagome decided to go to the right one first, and if it was wrong, she would go to the left. Kagome walked into the little office that was conveniently located at the front of the school doors, and walked up to the woman behind the desk. This woman had tall blonde hair and a white shirt on and a navy jacket over it. The woman looked up from her computer and gave Kagome a strange look.

"Can I help you with something?" She asked, still giving Kagome a look that clearly said she should not be here.

"Well, I'm a new student here and I saw this office and thought it was the right one, but I guess I must have to go to the left correct?"

"Yes" The woman said curtly, and then half turned to look at her computer again. Kagome took it as a dismissal, and walked back out the door, then walked into the door of the left office.

This office had nicer looking people in it. Kagome went up to another woman behind yet another desk and smiled. The woman smiled back at her. This woman was older with short grey hair, and thin lips. Kagome could tell she was the kind of woman who would bake cookies for her grandchildren every time they came over.

"Can I do something for you honey?" She asked, her eyes kind.

"Yes" Kagome sighed, thankful for a kind secretary this time. "I'm a new student here and I was told to come to this office for my schedule."

"Oh, yup that would be this office!!!! And I am the right person to come to!!" The woman seemed elated by the idea that Kagome had chosen to talk to her.

'Not that there's anyone else around to ask but...ok.' Kagome thought to herself as the woman printed out her schedule for her.

"Let's see here...Algebra, Study Hall, English 11, and German 2. Sounds like a good schedule to me!" The woman told her, another bright smile on her face. "But wait...aren't you a 10th grader?"

"Yes...but I'm ahead in the English department." Kagome told the woman, already guessing what her question would have been.

"And you're smart too!!!! Well, come by any time and see me if you have any trouble with anything!! My name is Kiede."

After smiling and thanking Kiede, Kagome hurried to her first class. Kagome ripped through her day, not talking to anyone, and trying to keep a low profile. The first day of school always bothered Kagome, she knew her second day would be fine, but the first day always had a hint of doom to it.

When the school day was over the sun was shining and this time, Kagome smiled as she walked home.

When Kagome got home she was greeted by her little brother Sota and a small red-haired boy sitting at the kitchen table eating cookies.

"Hey Sis!" Sota called to her as she opened the fridge to get a soda.

"Hey Sota, who's this?" Kagome asked, gesturing toward the other boy.

"This is my new friend Shippo!!!!" Sota told her excitedly. Apparently being a 4th grader with only one friend was really cool these days.

"Nice to meet you Shippo. Sota, I'll be in my room, try not to be too loud ok?"

"Ok"

As Kagome climbed the stairs to her room she heard the two boys talking.

"THAT was your sister?" She heard a little voice ask, obviously it was Shippo.

"Yup" Sota stated proudly.

"She's pretty"

Kagome smiled to herself as she closed her bedroom door.
