Hey there Kagome by Nydanna

Hey there Kagome

I know I've been neglecting my other fanfic...but for some reason I'm at a complete loss with it. >_ I'm hoping that once I get this one-shot songfic out of my head, maybe I'll get a bit of insperation.

Disclaimer- No, I don't own Inuyasha....or the song Hey there Delilah which is what this fic is based on.

----------------------Hey there Kagome

The alarm clocked buzzed loudly in her ear, quickly followed by heavy pounding upon the door to her dorm room. The only sign of life she gave was a quiet groan. She was determined to stay in bed for as long as she could, she just couldn't let the wonderful dream that had haunted her sleep the night before fade away.

Behind her closed eyes, she could picture his face the day she had left for NY university. His long silver tresses flowed down his back down to till it almost reached his knees. His cold golden gaze had been obscured by a curtain of silver bangs, using them as a shield to hide the true emotion that was burning within bright depths of his eyes. He stood there with his hands tucked in his pockets, giving his best 'This isn't goodbye, just see you later.' speech, urging her not to cry.

They had been high school sweethearts. He had been in 10th grade, when she had been promoted to the 9th after skipping 8th grade. The first time they met she had been rushing to class only to crash into his hardened body. She had been about to apologize, and he had been about to lecture her on crashing into her betters, but the moment their eyes met both had lost their train of thought. After that day they were inseparable. That was until their senior year. She had planned to go to NY university, while he had planned to stay behind and try to get a record deal. Now they were thousands of miles away from each other.

They spoke every day on the phone, each day she would tell him about her day at school, while he would remain his usual silent self. They would say their goodbyes, and every day he would promise her that one day they'd be together soon and never have to be apart again.

But for the past two weeks she had not heard from her love. She had called and called, only to receive the same message on his answering machine. She was beginning to lose hope, and began to wonder if maybe the love of her life had gotten tired of waiting for her to graduate and moved on.

Pulling the covers over her head, she decided that she didn't want to get out of bed this morning, and that classes could wait until tomorrow. Snuggling back into her bed, she closed her eyes and tried to go back to her own little private dream world, but fate had other plans for her. Just as she closed her eyes, a loud squeal, followed by the footsteps of her two roommates, Sango and Ayame. They hadn't even bothered knocking on the door, instead they barged in and ripped the blankets off of her.

"Kagome! Kagome! You've got to come out into the living room and see who's on TV!" Sango chirped, tugging on Kagome's hand to urge her out of bed.

On the other side, Ayame was struggling to push Kagome off the bed. "Come on Kagome! If you don't come see this, you're going to kick yourself for it later."

Growling, she snatched her hand away from Sango and struggled against Ayame to lay back down. "Guys, I really don't feel up to anything right now. I think I'm just going to stay in bed today."

Glancing at each other, Ayame and Sango smirked wickedly. Sango immediately left the room and ran into the living room, turning the volume of the TV up to full blast.

"So I hear that your first song was written for your girlfriend." Kagome didn't recognize the voice of the person making the comment, but the voice who responded was one she had memorized.

"That's right. Her name is Kagome, and I wrote the song to let her know that no matter how far apart we are from each other, that I'll always be there for her when she needs me, and that I'll be waiting for the day that we can be together again." The smooth voice responded, causing Kagome to leap from the bed and rush to the front of the tv.

Just as she entered the room, the announcer was introducing the song, 'Hey there Kagome.'

Stunned into silence, Kagome watched at the corner as the title and artist of the song came up. 'Hey there Kagome, by The Youkais.'

Blinking in disbelief, she watched as her boyfriend sat in the middle of an empty room, strumming his guitar. Moments later, his silky voice flowed from the speakers, causing all three of the women watching to practically swoon.

Hey there Kagome

What's it like in New York City?

I'm a thousand miles away

But girl tonight you look so pretty

Yes you do

Times Square can't shine as bright as you

I swear it's true

Hey there Kagome

Don't you worry about the distance

I'm right there if you get lonely

Give this song another listen

Close your eyesListen to my voice it's my disguise

I'm by your side

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

What you do to me

Hey there Kagome

I know times are getting hard

But just believe me girl

Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar

We'll have it good

We'll have the life we knew we would

My word is good

Hey there Kagome

I've got so much left to say

If every simple song I wrote to you

Would take your breath away

I'd write it all

Even more in love with me you'd fall

We'd have it all

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

A thousand miles seems pretty far

But they've got planes and trains and cars

I'd walk to you if I had no other way

Our friends would all make fun of us

and we'll just laugh along because we know

That none of them have felt this way

Kagome I can promise you

That by the time we get through

The world will never ever be the same

And you're to blame

Hey there KagomeYou be good and don't you miss me

Two more years and you'll be done with school

And I'll be making history like I do

You know it's all because of you

We can do whatever we want to

Hey there Kagome here's to you

This ones for you

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

Oh it's what you do to me

What you do to me.

The song was soon drowned out by some rap song that Kagome didn't know, but she didn't care. In her head the words that he had sang echoed inside her mind. It almost felt as if he was standing right there with her, singing only to her. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at her two friends, completely speechless. They could only smile at her and tell her how happy that they were for her and that she had the best boyfriend in the world.

Kagome was about to say something when she heard the phone ring. Rushing over without bothering to check the caller ID she picked it up, 100% certain that the voice on the other end would be the one which had been singing to her over the tv.

"Hello?" she said quietly, her brow furrowed into a frown. She didn't want to get her hopes up that he would be on the other line, but she couldn't help but wish with all her heart that her instincts were right.

"Did you enjoy your song, my pretty Kagome?" The sound of his voice made her feel weak in the knees. Even when he wasn't singing, she thought that he had the sexiest voice she had ever heard, she could listen to him talk about absolutely nothing at all and get aroused just hearing him.

"Oh Sessy....I loved it! I love you!" she blurted out, blinking her eyes in surprise that the words had spilled so carelessly from her lips. Although they had been together for over six years, neither had ever said those three little words. Of course they had implied them, but never directly said them. She stiffened instantly, waiting with bated breath for a response.

She could almost hear him smile over the phone as he whispered almost too quietly for her to hear. "As I love you, my Kagome."

They spoke for a few more minutes with him coaxing her into going to class and her making him promise that he'd come to see her as soon as possible. When they finally said their goodbyes, he told her that he had a surprise for her then quickly hung up before she could question him. Sighing happily, she hung up the phone and made herself ready for class.

As she and her roommates exited their dorm room, they couldn't help but notice how everyone was staring at Kagome. Most of the girls were glaring at her enviously, a few had a dreamy expression, and it was quite clear that they would love for their own boyfriends to do the same thing for them. The guys on the other hand were looking at Kagome with interest. A few had tried to approach her, only to be blocked by both Sango and Ayame.

The trio finally made it to their class and made it to their seats. They chatted while they waited for their professor to begin the morning's lecture. Ten minutes later, the professor had yet to enter the room. Suddenly the lights were shut off, leaving the students to gasp and mutter to each other in hushed tones.

Before anyone could panic, someone threw on a spotlight, and there in the front of the room where there professor should be stood Sesshomaru with his guitar in hands. The moment the spotlight hit him he began to sing his song to Kagome. Once the final note had silenced, he peered into the crowd and stared straight at Kagome, a hint of a smile on his lips.

Dropping down to one knee in front of her entire class, he pulled out a small black velvet jewelry box. Peering up at the women he loved, Sesshomaru grinned. "Kagome, I love you. Would you do me the honor of being my wife?"

Unable to speak, all she could do is nod her response. She watched as he raced to her, and before she could blink she was in his arms. The whole room burst into applause as the two lovers kissed, completely oblivious to the world around them.

They slowly broke apart, and Kagome found herself staring into the same golden gaze she had been thinking of all this time. Flashing him her most dazzling smile, she finally found her voice just long enough to say. "Hey there Sesshomaru."

A/N - I'm probably going to edit the ending, but I finally got this song, and fic out of my head! Thank you all for reading it. ^-^
