Fire and Ice by HavoK

Inu, your an idiot

"SIT BOY!!!!!! SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT BOY!!!!!"

The shrill command broke through the peaceful afternoon. From a hillside far off in the distance, one could see scattering birds that had been startled from their perches.

"SIT!"

The ground stuttered with a heavy impact immediately following the command of the female's voice. An indistinct moan of protest but was silenced by another chain of "SITS".

The voice was laced with poison and deadly determination. In a grassy meadow bordered by a large forest, a strangely dressed fuming female stood over an oddly human shaped crater that she had been screaming at not but moments ago. A low growl began to rise from the hole at her feet.

"K...a...go...me...!" It sounded exceptionally muffled.

"HOW DARE YOU GROWL AT ME?! SIIIIIT!!!!!!" There was a crash somewhere at the bottom of the crater. Two others stood further away from the hole shaking their heads.

"You'd think that they'd learn... I mean. It's been almost two years now." Another female whispered to a man in purple robes.

"Yes, it is kind of old but asking Inuyasha to grow up would be the equivalent of asking you to stop being a slayer." The man responded, reaching for her butt.

"Or asking you to STOP BEING SUCH A LECH!!" The woman pulled the enormous boomerang off her back and began pounding him with it.

The female, Kagome, stormed away from the crater to her two companions, one standing, the other sitting rubbing his head.

Her green and white uniform flounced with her exaggerated steps and was bound to attract a lot of attention. The shirt was white and the red tie around her neck looked something like a messy sailors knot. The skirt was less then normal for that time and there was a high chance that it would call a lot of attention. The key words being less and high... very high.

"Sango-chan?" Kagome addressed her female friend, "Can I borrow Kirara for a while?" The demon slayer nodded and nudged the little cat in her arms. Her great amber eyes opened and turned up to her master. Sango motioned towards Kagome and Kirara leapt out of her arms as an unspoken command and grew to almost fifty times its size in a burst of demonic flame.

Kagome slipped onto Kirara's back taking comfort in her soft fur. Her monk friend, Miroku, came up to her carrying her enormous yellow backpack. The lecher had much less innocent thoughts running through his head than simply bringing her bag. Contemplating the chances that he could sneak in a grope without being killed by Kagome in her bad mood, or Sango who had already beaten him senseless with herikotsu numerous times that day, he handed Kagome her bag. Sango was watching him closely and he decided not to chance it and backed away which earned him a surprised glance from both women.

"See you guys later." Kagome said plastering a fake smile on.

"KAGOMEEEEEE!!!" A little kizune flung himself at her. She cuddled him for a moment and gave him to Sango, where he snuggled into her chest and cried quietly.

"To be a child again." Miroku muttered wistfully as he watched Shippo. The comment did not go unnoticed and both women glared daggers at him.

"Bye Shippo. Bye Sango." Kagome said as Kirara took off. Miroku looked hurt for a while but as soon as he realized no one cared, he went back to his usual routine. Grope Sango, get beaten, get over the headache, do it all over again.

A little while later a twitching silver ear appeared at the top of the crater followed by another and then two wide golden eyes. Seeing the danger had passed, the Inu pulled the rest of his body from the crater and began to shake the dust from his clothes. A rock came flying at his head.

"Really Inuyasha! You'd think that you'd learn but obviously that thick skull of yours leaves you erudition impaired." Sango called to him. He glared at her but couldn't find a response for the tai-ji, mostly because he couldn't seem to figure out what erudition or impaired meant. He searched the sky for any signs of Kirara, her aura already faded and Kagome's sent was already blown misleadingly in different directions.

"Yo, Miroku. Where did they go?" He growled at the lecher, in an attempt at a calm, uncaring voice.

"Kagome-sama? She went back to her time as usual, when she can no longer deal with your unrelenting idiocy." Miroku quipped. Inuyasha found that he had managed to piss off all of his friends and decided to go find Kagome. Without a word, Inu leapt off towards the sacred well.

Meanwhile, Kagome had gotten off Kirara at the well and was now sitting on its rim. Her anger was still raw and dancing behind her eyes.

'I should have left him pinned to that stupid tree! The nerve of that guy! A useless bitch?? Shard detector was bad enough but USELESS BITCH? UGH! And that damn Sesshomaru is no help either. Always coming and picking fights with him! How the hell did I know he would try and kill me... well that was kind of a dead give away but I was trying to help! Useless bitch was SO uncalled for! I am never going to forgive him for this!' Kagome's thoughts were silenced for a moment then she sighed, the fire in her eyes dissipating. 'But I will forgive him, just like every other time....' Her reflection was cut short as she felt a human approaching. A small boy appeared from behind a tree. His large brown, innocent eyes melted all remaining anger that Kagome felt. He shied back behind the tree when he saw her looking at him. He bit his lip and started over to her grasping firmly a sapphire pendant in his tiny fist. He stopped a little bit away from her.

"Is the pretty lady angry?" His voice put Hershey's milk chocolate to shame. Ten minutes later, after of Kagome's mindless drool, lots of hugs and the realization that the little boy's name was Kairu, he held out the pendant to her. He was smiling but his eyes grew serious.

"To make the pretty lady happy!" Kairu cooed as Kagome gaped at him.

"Where... Where did you get this? I could never take it! You should give it to your mother but not a complete stranger!" But he was persistent and pushed it closer to her. She finally took it and fastened it around her neck. The boy smiled wide.

"It looks good on the pretty lady!"

"My name is Kagome. Please stop calling me pretty lady."

"Kagome." He grinned, "Kagome, I have to go home now. Ma...Mother will worry if I'm not home before dark." Turning, he waved goodbye and then ran back into the trees. Kagome smiled after him until he disappeared, then she ripped off the necklace and examined the shining pendant in her hand. 'What is with this necklace. The second I touched it, it felt like I was just shocked. Youkai? No, well maybe but it's not an evil youkai. It's not a miko's power either. What is wrong with this thing' She clenched her fist and was about to throw it when a blur of silver caught her eye. In her lapse of attention, she didn't feel the demonic aura speeding towards her, leap from the trees, grab her by the shoulders, lose its balance and send both of them cascading down the well while still attached to her shoulders.

"AAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" Kagome's voice echoed up the shaft but was soon swallowed up by the blue light. The pendant that Kagome was still gripping in her hand grew warm and gave off a pure light. AND WHY WAS THAT THING STILL HOLDING ONTO HER SHOULDERS!!!!!!!

"DON'T TOUCH ME!!" She gave the creature a hard slap. Silver hair fanned out around him.

"Huh? Oh Inuyasha it's you! In that case..." She backhanded him and then kicked him in the stomach. The light from the pendant grew and despite Inuyasha's efforts to remain attached to her shoulders, he was pried away from her and they drifted further apart.

"KAGOME! GRAB MY HAND!" The voice sounded different but Kagome didn't really notice. She now forgot about her vow to kill him and tried desperately to reach him. The pendant's light engulfed her and she lost all control over her body and was now just gliding on clouds of ivory silk. Involuntary tears slipped down her cheeks. 'I've died. Something went wrong and I died. Mama, Souta, Ji-Chan... I couldn't say goodbye. Sango, Miroku, Shippo... I was so mean to you today....if there is such a thing as today in the afterlife or if it's all just one block time that never ends... and... Inuyasha... Inuyasha...' Kagome closed her eyes as a new wave of tears welled up in her cobalt eyes. 'I'm sorry.' Her peaceful journey in the silence of nothingness took an abrupt halt as Kagome's body lurched forward. It felt like the very fabric of time was shredded. Invisible claws tore at her body and sent lights flashing red behind her eyes. Kagome could no longer take the chaos, and her mind retreated into the serene darkness of unconsciousness.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"Mmmhhhh." Kagome groaned and slowly pushed herself away from the ground. Her entire body ached and all she wanted was to be lying in her own bed sleeping. But that wasn't going to happen. She was painfully aware of the demonic aura surrounding her and the eyes that seemed to be glued to her form. The little thread of sanity that she had left snapped as the aura swelled and came closer. Her eyes snapped open. She was sitting at the bottom of the sacred well. Blue sky was all she could see out of the top. She wasn't in her time, so she must still be in the feudal age. But where was Inuyasha, and why didn't she return home? Inuyasha. Her mind was flooded with emotions. She wasn't really sure what she felt anymore. She remembered reaching for him, desperately. Trying to cling to him and have him protect her. But he really didn't try that hard to reach her, did he? No, he would rather go and be with that freakin clay pot of his. He really didn't love her. He never did. She was a shadow, a copy, of love; a reincarnation of the one that he truly cared for, and she could never be more. 'I have to stop trying then. I can't keep doing this to myself. And what about home? If I'm still in the feudal era then how do I get home?' With another swell of youkai energy, Kagome decided that she needed to kill something. Grabbing onto one of the vines that were conveniently hanging down the side of the well, she began to pull herself up. She finally managed to drag herself out of the well that seemed a lot further up once you are half way there, and saw her victims. Two giant oni stood over her with clubs held in bloody claws and blood red eyes. The oni pulled back his arm and swung at her. Kagome threw herself out of the way just in time as the club hit the ground, leaving a large crater. She stood up and clenched her fists.

"Heh, you picked the wrong day to screw with me." Kagome ground out through clenched teeth. She felt her miko powers surface and a blue light surrounded her body. The oni swung at her again, but this time Kagome was prepared. She dodged the clumsy movement and focused her energy in her hands. Slamming her hands into the chest of the first creature, blue light exploded from her body and the oni disintegrated into a pile of dust. The second one wasted no time, and while she was concentrated on its partner, it took the opportunity to slam its club into her, sending her flying sideways. Kagome felt like a rag doll. She hit the ground and shrieked in pain, but then fell silent. Attempting to sit up, she shifted and found that there was something horribly wrong with her arm. Using her eighth grade health class medical expertise, she was able to determine that it hurt like hell, and she couldn't move it, but that was about it. The oni was closing in on her and she had to think fast. Grabbing a stone, she charged it with her powers. Soon it was glowing blue with all of the pure energy. Praying that she would hit her target even if she was throwing with her left arm, she flung the rock at the oni's head. It hit and exploded, releasing a wave of power. When the dust cleared, there was nothing left of the creature. Kagome fell backwards, a triumphant smile gracing her features despite her pain. The world was swimming and she realized that she was losing consciousness again. She felt herself be picked up. Two golden eyes were staring down at her. Silver and red flashed before her eyes before the world was plunged into darkness yet again.

Inuyasha
