Sting of the Scorpion

by Kuro Mitsukai

She crept behind him anticipating his every move, his every breath. His heartbeat was the only thing that could be heard. She smiled, making her move, and was behind him in an instant.

"Whaaa..?" The youkai lifted his head in instinct slightly.

"I have you now. There is no escape from me." She hissed, pouncing on her prey, blade in hand. She straddled him and lifted her arm, her sword poised ready for the kill.

"Wait!" he yelled frantically. "What is your name!!?"

"Sasori." She whispered and struck. Her blade swiftly decapitating her victim's head.

The next day.

Kagome smiled. Her execution of the youkai bandit had fetched her more than she had expected. Not much at all, but a fair deal for the amount of effort she had used last night.

Sliding the screen door of her home open, she stopped to check the mailbox for any new assignments she might have. There were quite a few today, but most were not worth her time at all. She stopped at one. The execution of the demon lord Sesshomaru.

"Hmmm..." she smiled.

The fee she would receive from his murder would prove quite useful. This was the most money she had ever been offered for the death of a single youkai. The deadline was at the end of the month, but that would be way more than she would need.

Kagome walked over to the birdcage in her room containing a beautiful falcon. She opened it.

"Here Sweetie, come here baby" she cooed. "Suzume, I need you to deliver this. You know where to go girl." Suzume was her method of transportation she used to deliver private messages to and from the people who paid her. She named her falcon 'sparrow' because the two of them had spent their lives with one another, and even though falcons were usually somewhat aggressive, Suzume was used to Kagome.

Kagome slipped the message into a pouch on Suzume's leg and let her out the window.
