Love Undone by Scarlet

A Pure Wish.

Kagome's feet felt heavy as she walked into the light of the campfire. The night was dark and cool as she quietly stalked across the dewy wet grass of the forest. The moon and the stars refused to shine on such a night. 'They shouldn't shine.' Kagome sighed to herself as she fingered the lone pink shimmering star that hung around her neck.

"A pure wish." She whispered softly into the wind as she stared lovingly, and remorsefully, at the tall pale figure that feigned slumber next to the warmth of the fire.

A sad smile quirked the side of her lip as she silently wondered if, in fact, he ever did truely sleep. How she had grown to love this man, 'Demon.' His barritone voice insisted within the confines of her own mind. Kagome let out a breath that was meant to be a laugh, but instead came out as a whimper as she stood directly in front of his ,crossed, silk clad legs.

Sesshoumaru's eye's remained closed as she approached. He prided himself on the control he could now practice in her presense. The urge to grab her and pin her to the forest floor was still there, but as their relationship blossomed he found it much more alluring to allow her to come to him from time to time. To allow her to tease him with her enchanting scent and soft caress, until he could take it no longer. The look upon her face when finally allowed his restraint to fall to his feet, immediately followed by their clothing, was well worth the effort.

Kagome stood, looking down at him for what seemed an eternity. 'Her mate.' Her heart swelled at the mental admission. How long had it taken her to even call him that? Her lip twitched again as she recalled the times she had tried to say it outloud. Two simple words. How long had he waited? Slowly she allowed herself to drink in his features. Every curve of his face and every nuance of his skin. How had she resisted such a man. 'Demon' His voice echoed in her head again, causing her to smile softly despite her grief.

'Pain.' Kagome's mind supplied as she once again looked down at her demon lover with a heavy heart. That was why she denied him so long. Inu Yasha's death had been hard on her. She had thought she loved him for so long. If he had lived, could she had loved him? She shook her head. She had asked herself that question one too many times. 'Naraku.' Her mind angrily added as it supplied yet another answer to her unspoken questions. Naraku was the dealer of pain, and she had been dealt a heavy hand. Yet, it was this pain that led her to her protector, her love, her mate, her.... "Sesshoumaru." She uttered softly.

A smile curled against his lip as he heard her wisper his name. Slowly he opened his eyes, trailing them up her supple form, taking in all that was his to look upon and touch. "Koi" He answered in a deep rumbling voice that he knew always made her knees weak. His features tightened and his heart sank as he saw the saddness dwelling in her blue orbs.

"What is it, my mate?" Sesshoumaru questioned softly against her neck as he quickly and soundlessly rose to her side to wrap her up in his arm. He hated to see the tears that hid behind her eyelashes. How long would she have to suffer? He could no longer count the number of times he had seen trails of glisening liquid roll down her soft cheek and onto his hatori, burning a path into his heart. He had denied the power of her tears for so long. Mentally he cursed himself for ever letting her tears fall upon the forest floor. He had let his own fear of appearing weak keep her at arms length. He vowed silently for what seemed the millionth time to never push her away again.

Kagome smiled weakly as a clawed finger scooped under her chin bringing her face to his as his golden gaze once against mezmerized her. "I have." Her voice trembled as she attempted to smother the emotion that threatened to spill forth. "I have the wish my love." She whispered, raising a dainty hand to stroke the side of his face. A weak smile once again gracing her trembling lips as he nuzzled softly against her palm. "A pure wish." She finished as she pulled her hand away again locking her eyes to his.

Sesshoumaru look at her compasionately as his clawed thumb caught a lone tear that threatened to slide across her perfect cheek. Why would making the wish upset her so? They had been dicussing wishing upon the now complete shiko-tama every since they had collected the last fragments, and while they both decided it was best to purify the jewel and wish its power out of this world, he did not understand why such a decision would upset her so.

Kagome smiled up at him as she watched his eyes search into hers as if he was attempting to pull the answer written plainly on her soul. She closed her eyes as she took in a stuttered breath, placing a gentle hand against the back of his neck and pulling his lips to hers. He returned the kiss passionately letting his eyelids close as he let the softness and longing of the kiss overtake his senses.

His heart began to beat in his chest as she pulled back, his eyes popping open as fear overtook him. Something in the kiss...in her actions. Something about the tears that now fell freely from her beautiful blue eyes. Something about the way she was holding back.

She was saying goodbye.

"Koi." He whispered softly with a hint of desperation in his voice as she took a step back from him the jewel clutched tightly in her small hand.

"I love you." Kagome whispered back as she took another step back, closing her eyes as tears now fell in tiny droplets against the forest floor.

"Kagome!" Sesshoumaru belowed as if she were falling away from him.

She took a deep breath, planting her feet against the ground as if she might fall simply from uttering the simple phrase. 'A pure wish' Her mind echoed. "I wish.." Her voice did not falter this time. This was her destiny. This is what she was brought here for. Kami help her, she would not screw this up.

"I wish Naraku never exsisted."

Sesshoumaru's clawed hand now grasping her arm painfully tight, a pained expression plain on his face. Mentally she noted she had never seen pain ever cross his stoic features in all the time she knew him.

"I love you, mate." He uttered softly as his lips pressed firmly against hers.

They would be the last words Kagome would ever hear him speak...and then never hear him speak.

In the blink of an eye a hanyou is given life, and reunited with his beloved miko. Never to be sealed to a tree. Never to be saved by a girl from the future.

In the blink of an eye a demon slayers family is given life. Living happily with her father and brother the young slayer's path crosses with a monk with 'cursed' hands looking for a place to stay. The demon slayer begs her father to turn the lech away as she is forced to repeatedly defend her honor, but her father insists. Oddly enough, they marry a year later.

In the blink of an eye a young fox is reunited with his parents. Never knowing the pain of losing them, thanks to a miko named Kikyo, whom he would never meet, and never know to thank.

In the blink of an eye Kagome sits up in her bed, drenched in sweat as her fingers brush against her tingling lips. "The dream again." She moans as she throws off the covers and heads to her bathroom, hoping a shower will wash away the desperate images along with layer of sweat that clings to her body.

It was in fact the same dream Kagome had been having for most of her life. Claws, fangs, desperate kisses, probing toungue, long white hair. Sometimes the images were jumbled and sometimes they felt so real. Her fingers lightly traced the curve of her neck. 'Fangs.' Her mind supplied. 'Why fangs?'

Kagome moaned as the cool water hit her heated skin. Where on her body hadn't these fangs touched her? What part of her body did not know the gentle caresses that plagued her while she slept. Another moan escaped her lips and she knew she was lost. Another morning of pleasuring herself in the shower. It was mornings like this that made her glad she didn't have a roomate. It was mornings like this that made her feel so alone.

She sighed softly. She had her first karate lesson this morning. She had never been much of a fighter, but her friends had insisted. "Kagome you have to come take lessons with us! It's SO good for you, and our instructer is so kawaii!!" Kagome rolled her eyes. Her friends voice in her head was not helping her current frustrations and if she wanted to be on time at all she would need to focus. She closed her eyes as her hands roamed over her body, letting her mind be cosumed by the dream, as she lightly ran her fingers over exposed acheing flesh.

On the other side of Tokyo a forgotten demon lord open his eyes to the breaking day. With a groan he pulled himself from the black silk sheets that now clung to his sweat covered body. He sat on the edge of the bed as he began to rub his temples with both hands. 'The dream again.' He sighed as he rose to his feet and stared at himself in the ajoining bathrooms mirror. He growled at the image that stared back at him, as he had done every morning since he had obtained the reflecting glass. How domesticated he had become.

Living in a human shelter, wearing human clothes, eating human food. He grunted again as he turned on the shower, lightly testing the water with his finger, before removing the black pajama bottoms he had worn to bed the night before and scrubbing at his skin as the word 'domesticated' continued to echo through his mind. "And now I'm dreaming of rutting with some human wench." He growled between clenched teeth as he violently scrubbed at his skin.

In truth he did not know which had occured first. His 'domestication' as he termed it was something of more recent. Something he found was required of him if he wished to survive throughout the years. Humans seemed to multiply like a virus and there was nothing he could do to stop it. It was a simple matter of hiding the markings on his face and arms. For only a true and pure miko could ever see through the magic required to hide his heritage, and by the time such things were required, the path of the miko was no longer followed. In the back of his mind he blamed these..dreams..for making the transition so much easier to accept. There had been a time in his long life that he would have gladly died at the end of a sword then mingle with unsavory humans.

He sighed out loud as he pulled his soaking form from the shower. The dreams themselves seemed to change along with him. At first they were a blur of red, passion, aching, sweet tastes and soft moans. Never before did his partner have a face. Slowly as the years dragged on the face became clearer and the dreams took on a realness that caused a shiver to run down his spine. A slender woman, trapped within his arms as he called out her name. A name. Why couldn't he remember the name? It was on the tip of his toungue and yet he could never quite grasp it.

He shook his head. This was the last thing he needed. He had lessons to teach at the dojo and the last thing he needed was to be distracted. He had been told he would be taking on a new student today 'Another human to beat on.' He remarked to himself as a cruel and sadistic smirk graced his lips.
