Blood. The scent of blood hit his nose like a tidal wave,

threatening to overwhelm him. Upon closer inspection, he found that the

scent was coming from the west. He left the monk and slayer, and began

running. His mind and heart were filled with silent curses toward his

brother, for the blood he smelled, was Kagome's.

"Inuyasha, koi, what's wrong?" Kikyo's grating voice cooed,

attempting to be loving. Sniffing the air, Inuyasha replied, "I smell

Kagome's blood...wait. There's another scent! It's Naraku!"

Sitting up, Kikyo's once loving tone was gone, replaced by cold malice.

"I

know. Inuyasha, do you know where we are?" The Hanyou was easily

distracted,

and took the bait. "Feh. Of course. It's the sacred tree." Kikyo's eyes

glistened with dark satisfaction. "Yes, it is. Do you recall what

happened

here fifty years ago?" Inuyasha huffed. "As if I'd forget that. This is

the

spot where you ki-" The hanyou fell silent as his eyes darkened with

realization. "No, Kikyo. Not again!!"

Amused at the surprise in his eyes, Kikyo laughed, the harsh sound

tearing

through the forest around them. "No, Inuyasha, not again. This time, I

am

only going to paralyze you." As Inuyasha's eyes widened, another

grating

laugh filled the space between them. "While my copy is killed by

Naraku, all

you will be able to do is listen to her scream." Kikyo closed her eyes

and

began to chant.

"Miroku, where is Inuyasha? He said he was going to catch

dinner, but he's been gone for over two hours." Sango said, worry

evident in

her voice. After moving to stand beside the slayer, Miroku began to

lower

his hand. "I do not know, Sango. You'd think he would stick close to

camp,

considering how close we are to Naraku's castle." 'Contact in 5...4...3...2...'

Whack!

A red faced Sango glared down at the twitching Miroku. "Monk, this is

hardly

the time!" As she spoke, Miroku got up and dusted himself off. He then

presented to her his most innocent look. "But Sango! It's this cursed

hand,

I swear! It's not my-uh...Sango?" Sango, however wasn't listening.

She was staring off into the forest, her eyebrows scruntched together.

"Miroku, did you feel that wind?" He looked around, confused. "Yes, but

I

just thought it was the wind from the force of that smack." Sango

turned to

him with an incredulous look on her face. They both sat down, but froze

at

the sight before them; or rather what was no longer before them.

Sango was the first to speak. "Miroku, where did Sesshomaru go? He was

here

just a second ago...!" Before the monk could answer, Kirara transformed

into

the formidable demon she was, and nudged the two to the west. Sango

turned

and pat the cat on the head. "It seems that Sesshomaru has gone west.

So,

we'll go west. Let's go, letch!"

Miroku sighed at the name and climbed atop the demon cat behind Sango.

"Yes

dear." He whispered sarcastically and the three of them were off.

"Naraku. What are you doing on my lands?" Sesshoumaru

demanded

as he stared at the hanyou before him. Dark laughter rang through the

clearing, causing creatures in the vacinity to scatter. "Why, Lord

Sesshomaru, that should be obvious. Your wench has shards of the

Shikon, and

I'm going to kill her for them." Naraku held up a bruised, but

otherwise

fine, Kagome. Though her body was dirty and battered, her blue eyes

were as

strong and defiant as ever, much to the demon lord's relief. He didn't

know

why, but he was glad that she wasn't badly injured.

'Wait, this Sesshomaru does not get relieved about anything, least of

all a

human's well being.' Sesshomaru growled loudly, gaining a mocking laugh

from

Naraku.

"My goodness, Sesshomaru. I would think you'd be happy to see your

wench.

She is yours, after all."

No sooner had the words left Naraku's mouth than Kagome and Sesshomaru

spoke

simultaneously. "Never!" For a second, the pair made eye contact. It

was

almost unnoticeable, but Naraku caught it. He also caught the flicker

of

emotion in both people. Amber suns reflected nothing but the urge to

dominate. Deep oceans overflowed with nothing less than the most

obvious

defiance. The two loved each other, that much was obvious. But the

trick was

figuring out how to exploit that.

'I will get to that when I get back to the palace.' Naraku decided but

was

taken from his thoughts when Kagome opened her mouth to elaborate on

her

earlier statement. "One: I am not his. Two: I will NEVER be his. Are we

clear?" The last part of her little rant was directed at Sesshomaru,

and she

locked eyes with him to get the point across. If that wasn't enough,

Inuyasha burst into the clearing at that moment.

"That's right, Naraku. She's not his. Now let her go." He stated

menacingly,

pointing Tetsusaiga at the demon, in a threatening manner. Before he

could

stop himself, Sesshomaru interrupted. "Whose is she then, little

brother? If

she is yours to protect, why is it that you have only just arrived now?

Are

you really physically that slow?" He scented the air, and smirked. "Or

have

you simply been rutting with a corpse?"

Inuyasha, who had been doing an excellent job of ignoring his brother,

turned to Sesshomaru. Both silver haired demons tensed when they

smelled

salt, and Inuyasha dropped his sword when he saw the tears running down

Kagome's face. He took a step toward her. "Ka...gome...I-'"

"Inuyasha, stop. I've heard it hundreds of times." Kagome said with a

bitter

tone. Inuyasha took a step backwards. Had he really done that? "Kagome!

I

wasn't rutting with her, I just-"

" NO. Don't lie to me. I'm human, and even I can smell the decay and

dirt on

you. So unless you died and it somehow slipped your mind, you were with

her,

and you were rutting." Kagome's angry face turned into a mixture of

sadness

and wisdom beyond her years. " But, I guess I understand. I mean,

you're in

love. Or at least, you were until Naraku over here tore you apart. So,

if

there's a chance for the two of you to live the life you should've,

then I

understand."

Naraku, who had been watching and listening to this, quickly got bored.

"Kagome, Inuyasha, as much fun as it is to watch the two of you suffer,

this

ends now." Naraku threw Kagome to the side, and she tried to get up.

The

brothers looked to her, debating whether they should help her up or

not.

Naraku, taking his chance, launched a tentacle toward Kagome intending

on

ending her role in this game. Sesshomaru sensed this and, before he

could

stop himself, he jumped in front of the tentacle, shielding Kagome with

his

body.

Sesshomaru awoke with a start, covered in a thin layer of sweat. His

sigh

was almost inaudible. 'I've been having these dreams for weeks, and I

always

end up saving the human girl. No, her name is Kagome. I know that, so I

should use it.' He got up and stood in front of the door to the hot

springs.

'I shall go today and pay Kagome a visit.'

Sesshomaru looked out the window, to be greeted by the darkness of

early

morning. This time, he spoke his thoughts. "Alright, so I'll go today."

The

demon lord turned away from the hot springs door, connected to his

room, and

looked at his bed. The idea of more sleep overrode all other things in

his

mind, and he laid back down. "Later today. I'll visit her later today."

Sesshomaru, for the first time in over a century, allowed himself to

oversleep.
