Harmony of Love by Kaia

Prologue

AN: Okay! This is the story that I've had rolling around in my head begging to be released for about 2 months now. I'm still working out kinks here and there so Chapters will probably be slow coming in the beginning. Unless of course my muse goes into overdrive and won't permit my fingers to stop typing (let us hope XD)

Anyways this is just going to be a short prologue to get things started off. I don't know when I'll get the first chapter up but don't expect it anytime soon. That way if I do get it up within the next few day's you'll be pleasantly surprised ^^

Tapping her fingers incessantly on the oak desk in front of her, she waited for the squat toad in front of her to continue his tale. Scowling slightly when he didn't continue she released a soft sigh and leaned forward.

"Is that all? You know better than to bother me with such foolish tales, Jaken. Leave and don't come back unless you have something useful to report." Smirking at the way he scrambled to his feet, Kagura couldn't help but wonder why the ugly little creature was allowed to embark on such important missions. Leaning back she sighed once more.

"What do you think of his report, Kanna?" Turning her head slightly she focused her scarlet eyes on the barely there form of her older sister.

"He speaks more truth than he knows." Came her ghostly reply.

Leaning forward slightly, Kagura furrowed her eyebrows. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Simply that he did not comprehend the magnitude of what he saw. The girl does in fact hold the power to bring our cause to an end. Jaken could not have seen this with his own eyes purely because it was not what he was looking for."

"So, because his only mission was to scout out and find Inuyasha he was blinded to the fact that the real threat was standing in front of him?" tapping a finger gently on her lip, Kagura began to try and imagine the power capable of pulling down the great Lord Sesshoumaru. Her own father had tried to bring him down and failed. Shaking her head slightly she turned back to her sister. "I have a hard time imagining such a girl could have enough power to bring even us down, let alone him." Standing gracefully she walked around the desk and to the door of her office. "I think it best not to bother Lord Sesshoumaru with this information just yet. There have been other people thought to be able to bring him down and they have all failed miserably. I highly doubt a fragile human girl with inept spiritual powers could do much better than our own father. Come, Kanna, let's go home."

Nodding her pale head the ghostly demoness followed her younger sister from their joint office to the lavish penthouse they shared, all the while thinking of the immense powers the young girl called Kagome held within her frail body. If she found a way to bring them forth and control them, she would indeed be the only person capable of bringing down both eastern and western complexes if she so wished it.

"Are you sure, Kaede?"

Nodding her head solemnly the old priestess opened her one good eye and gazed at the ghastly scene in front of her. "It was indeed a demon."

"But how? I thought the newest enchantments prevented any demons from entering our complex."

Kaede turned her attention to the group of guards that were called to the scene. Only one of the seemed to be experienced enough to have seen such a murder before. Turning her attention the older of the four men she sighed softly. "Please be sure to send their remains to the laboratory and make sure that this place looks as if nothing had ever happened."

The grizzled guard nodded his head once. "Will a report need to be sent to Lady Kikyou?"

"Aye. But I shall be the one to send it. You just make sure to get this mess cleaned up." She waited until all four of the guards saluted in turn and she turned and walked to the small gateway that leads to the high council's quarters. Bracing herself she stepped carefully into the murky liquid like substance that instantly pulled her body at light speed and thrusted her out into the entrance chamber. Placing a hand on the wall next to the gate momentarily, Kaede took a deep breath and tried to pull herself together. She never did like traveling by way of the gates. She was getting too old for it. Standing up straight she smoothed out her clothing and walked quickly from the small chamber out into the entrance hall.

"Lady Kaede, so good to see you again. I hope you have come to clarify exactly what has happened."

Pausing momentarily Kaede narrowed her eyes at the young man in front of her. "Onigumo." She nodded her head in greeting towards him. "I am here merely to report my findings to Kikyou and be on to my next assignment." Nodding her head once more to the slightly bewildered expression of the man next to her she turned and continued her walk up the grand staircase that lead to Kikyou's office.

Stopping in front of the double doors she took in a deep breath and knocked twice. She waited until she heard movement inside to release her breath. She was shocked to find Kikyou answering the door instead of a servant.

"Kaede. Good you're here. I have an important mission for you." Stepping aside slightly Kikyou let the older woman pass before she shut the door and sealed it with her powers. "I am sure you are aware of the sudden panic throughout the complex?"

"It is my business to know."

Smiling slightly at her response she gestured to two plush seats. Easing herself gracefully into the seat, Kikyou turned her full attention to the woman she thought of as an older sister.

"Kikyou..." she began, "I believe Sesshoumaru is up to something. The murder reported earlier was caused by a demon. I searched the area but did not sense any aura, leading me to believe that this was not a normal demonic attack."

"What kind of attack do you believe it to be then?"

"I'm not entirely sure. I know that the souls had barely escaped from the bodies when I had arrived and for the murder to be that recent the demon would have had to been relatively close by. Close enough to sense its aura in the least."

"Could it have been a half-blood?"

"Possibly. Even then I should have sensed something. I sensed nothing Kikyou. Now I know I'm getting on in my years but my powers have yet to falter. I can find no explanation as to what happened." Shaking her head, Kaede turned her gaze to her hands and sighed. "I will return to the lab to further investigate the bodies in hope of finding something more."

"No. Leave that to another priestess. I have something else for you to do."

"Are you sure? What else could my personal experience be good for?"

"I need you to investigate the Shikkon Alliance. It appears that there is more to certain high standing members of this alliance that we overlooked initially. I believe there to be a powerful miko amongst their presence." Kikyou smiled lightly at the open shock that took hold of Kaede's wrinkled features.

"Are you positive?"

"No. That is why I'm sending you to investigate. I'm sure you can blend in well enough."

"Y-Yes I suppose I could." Standing quickly she nodded. "I will prepare to leave tonight."

"Good." Kikyou watched the old priestess leave the room and leaned back into the chair. "You are not happy with my choice?" she said into the empty air. Kikyou turned her head to the shadow in the corner of the darkening room.

"You know me. I do not approve of you sending anybody but me to do missions of such importance."

"Have patience, Onigumo. Even if Kaede does fail, she will succeed enough for our plan to work." She smiled lightly to the ceiling. "Give it time."

AN: Ok! There's the groundwork for what's to come. I hope it's a good start. I'll try to get the first couple of chapters up as soon as I can ^__^

I know with my last fic I said I didn't care about reviews but for this one I would really appreciate them. I would love to know what you guys think I should do, and if there's anything that you don't agree with please let me know. Note that just because you don't like it doesn't mean I'm going to change it, I'm just letting you know that I'm open for ideas.
