Bad Puppies Never Prosper by Galadrihm_Star

It can't rain all the time...

A.N.: I present to you the prequel to "Yasha doesn't know!". My mailbox was flooded with requests for a story leading up to the infamous concert, so I decided to throw in my good deed for the year. The first chapter will merely be a taste and if reviews call for it, I will continue running with this idea. Your reviews do mean something to me... Anyway, hope you guys like this teaser and I hope to hear from you.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the songs in this story unless it is written otherwise (you never know...I may try writing a song).

Chapter 1

It can't rain all the time...

The icy patter of rain echoed through a dormant hallway, broken picture frames and glass scattered across the cool wood of the floor. Photos of love and joy torn and thrown about the pale white apartment as heavy sobs rose above the storm. A darkened bedroom opened to reveal a woman hunched over in a shadowed corner. The once warm and inviting room is left in disaster as sheets are torn and pictures lay shredded.

A small hiccup erupts from the broken woman as she cradles her bleeding hand to her chest. The knuckles are blue and torn yet carry the tell-tale white from the drywall she had smashed through. A large hole in the wall beside the girl answers the riddle of the injured hand. Her red wife-beater dons dark spots were her blood had run freely, while her black, Caffeine pants are torn at the edges due to the glass. The turmoil within distracts her from the throbbing in her hand and the pain in her glass-bitten feet.

The front door creaks in greeting to a stranger as the girl leans against the wall to welcome another wave of hot tears. A muffled voice plucks at her heart and after a few calls she turns her head toward the intruder.

"Kagome?"

A bitter smile tugs at Kagome's burgundy lips as the silver-haired god stared down at her broken form. The usual cold eyes filled with deep concern and a flash of anger. His olive-green bondage pants swish against the floor as he approaches her slowly. The 'god' pushes the sleeves of black, Jack Skelington thermal to his elbows, his eyes narrowing in as he assessed the room around him. The pain and blood loss begin to register on her tired heart and mind. The movement of her head against the wall sends her bottom-length, obsidian hair around her pale form like a curtain.

"I'm sure that you'll forgive me if I don't stand to greet you, Sess." The acid-like tears continued to stream. "I'm not myself at the moment..."

"Kami, Kagome...what has he done?" Sesshomaru whispered as he dropped to one knee, taking in her injuries with quiet rage.

Upon entering Kagome's apartment, he had immediately thought that she had been robbed and had called out to her. The sobs had been his only clue to finding her. His black-canvas Chuck Taylors clicked and crunched against the glass and splintered wood. The faces of Inuyasha and Kagome looked up at him from their wrinkled platforms. Seeing the torn pictures and hearing the tortured cries of his best friend, Sesshomaru had known what caused her such agony. The question was what had the hanyou done this time to anger the trembling angel.

The seriousness of the situation hit him fully when the sight of Kagome's shattered Les Paul guitar greeted him. It had been a two-year anniversary gift from Inuyasha. The once proud instrument, and Kagome's most prized possession, lay tattered and broken in jagged pieces on the bedroom floor.

Sesshomaru sighed heavily as he gathered his sobbing friend and confidant into his arms. His ebony-clawed hand swept through her hair and he tried to calm her. Kagome seemed to quiet at his voice so he took the opportunity to gently pick her up and take her to the untouched bathroom. The girl in his arms whimpered and groaned tiredly as Sesshomaru went about his task of removing glass and cleaning wounds. He bandaged the cuts with care and returned to Kagome's room to gather a bag of clothes and supplies for the half-awake girl. To simply leave Kagome in this condition was out of the question! He would gladly let his friend stay with him until the damage was repaired...in more than one sense.

Shouldering the black duffle-bag with ease, Sesshomaru swept Kagome into his arms and exited the apartment. The Inu youkai was careful to grab the keys and check the locks before leaving; it would be better not to tempt further harm or destruction while she would be away.

Shuffling across the flooding parking lot, Sesshomaru quickly unlocked the car doors and settled Kagome into the passenger side. Both occupants of the car were now somewhat soaked from the half-sprint across the lot, but Kagome's bandages had been covered well and remained dry. Sesshomaru nearly jumped when her hand shot out to land on his arm as he started the car.

"He betrayed me, Sess..." Kagome's voice was cracked and dry from her tears. "I gave him everything and he ran off to Kikyo. Why did he do this to me?" Her eyes were still red and her black makeup had run to make trails of charcoal down her flushed cheeks. Doe-brown eyes reached out to him as he turned to face her.

"I don't know, Gome." What could he say? Sesshomaru fought the rising rage within him as her eyes dulled and glazed.

Kagome merely shook her head weakly and let her head drop against the seat, her eyes closing in a troubled slumber. The car glided on through the rain, the driver gripping the wheel as if it were his last tie to the living world. From time to time Sesshomaru would steal a glance at the woman beside him.

A hate unlike any other began to glow from deep within his heart as images of her broken and defeated in a corner flashed through his mind. The spitfire goddess he had come to call his greatest friend and companion had come crashing down. All because of his foolish, bastard half-brother. Sesshomaru silently made a vow to himself as he guided the car through the flooded streets of the city. He would restore Kagome to her former fiery glory and at the same time bring the heartless bastard responsible to his knees.

The reluctant miko beside him had been the only true friend he had ever known. Sure there were others close to him, but with Kagome he could be himself without fear of ridicule or betrayal. The girl deserved better and Sesshomaru knew it. He clenched his jaw and tapped a black claw on the wheel in thought. Another couple of blocks pass by in a grey haze before a cruel smile spreads across the Western Prince's lips.

"Don't worry, Kagome." Sesshomaru whispered gently, his eyes flicking to Kagome's resting form. "I will personally see to it that Inuyasha suffers for what he has done...I promise you."

TBC?

You know the routine...

No flames. Why? *shrug* I don't need a laugh that badly....*grin*

Cheers! – G.S.
