Rich Girl by Erin M.

The Last Day of a Fading Summer Love

August 31st, 2003

I opened my bedroom door and slammed it shut with a loud bang. I threw my bags over into the corner of my room and crashed face first into my bed. Life just about sucks right now.

Hi, I'm Kagome Higurashi. I am currently 15 about to turn 16 and going to be in 10th grade. I live in uptown Tokyo, or as most people like to call it, the Upper Crust. I live in a Tokyo penthouse suite apartment with my mom, my grandfather, and my little brother Souta. Oh yeah...and I'm rich. No no...not like just ordinary rich. I mean like I'm SUPER rich. In fact, my family and I happen to be the richest family in Tokyo. How you ask? Well I'll tell you.

My dad founded the Institution Of Tokyo ten years ago when I was just a kid. It was some kind of school for computer geniuses or something. Anyways, the Institution made a ton of money from various benefits and donations from different ambassadors and presidents from all over the world. The Institute made so much money, that my dad was dubbed the richest man in Japan.

So my dad bought my mom, my brother, and me the biggest penthouse suite in Tokyo and filled it with what I thought was absolutely useless stuff like art and junk. But I did benefit from all of this. I finally got my own master bedroom with bathroom. Lucky me.

About three years ago, as my dad was driving home one night, he was hit head-on with a speeding semi-truck. Somehow, I think in my own way, I mourned his death, but I didn't really know him that well. He was never home and I never really saw him on the weekends. Well after the wreck, my grandfather came to live with us to "support" us through our time of need.

Even though my dad was dead, my family still got plenty of money from the Institute, as though my father's death never happened. I still get to shop for the best clothes, still get to go to my fancy Bayview School for Boys and Girls, and I still to live the miserable life I've lived ever since my father made me rich.

I slipped into my silky pajamas and turned on my flat-screen entertainment center to see what was on at 6:23 pm. News...news...news. As if anything else is new. I snapped off the TV and went over to my window. I could see the whole park from my bedroom window. I suddenly felt intrigued to go for a run. I had nothing better to do.

I put on some shorts and my tennis shoes and headed outside in the fading summer sun.

'It's the last day of summer vacation and I'm sure as heck not gonna spend it moping around.'

Earlier that day, I had been hanging out with my best friend, just shopping around some of the beachfront shops. As I was turning around to look at some cute blouses, I saw him...with HER!

Inuyasha is not only the hottest soon-to-be junior in my school, he WAS my boyfriend. I ducked behind a rack of shorts and watched the scene play out before me. Inuyasha had this abnormally beautiful silver hair and awesome yellow eyes. Inuyasha and I had been going for almost six months...SIX MONTHS! And he just decides that on the last day of summer to go and break my heart.

I've never really truly hated anybody...before I met Kikyo. Kikyo had to be the meanest soon-to-be junior I have EVER met. She was tall, pale, and absolutely gorgeous. She had long black hair and narrow brown eyes. Well...anyways back to the story. As I was peering behind a pair of khaki shorts and just as Sango was starting to wonder what the heck I was doing, I saw the most wretched thing in the whole world.

After a small sip of Kikyo's frappe, Inuyasha leaned in and gave Kikyo the most passionate kiss I've ever seen anybody in public do. It was like some kind of love movie. Only I had the crappy part in it and my script was completely wrong. I'm not sure what Sango said to the two of them after I ran off, trying not to cry, but I'll bet you anything that she'll call and give me ALL the details.

It's not I was entirely SHOCKED that Inuyasha cheated on me. It's not only the fact that him and Kikyo have a past together, I guess I was never good enough for him. Note to the non-wealthy: Being rich isn't all it's cut out to be.
