The Power of Love by Gothic Lust

chapter 1

Chapter 1:

The sun was slowly setting. The colors of the last rays of light danced among the water of a flowing river. There were no sounds other than the flow of water and tears.

Hidden beneath the shade of a tree, a young girl cried. Her brown hair was dusted with dirt and twigs. She clutched her knees to her chest as she sobbed into her hands. The kimono she wore was torn in various places and seemed it was soon to be to small to fit her growing body.

"Lord Sesshomaru..." the girl cried softly as she lifted her head to reveal a tear streaked face. A sound of a cracking twig echoed into the open area. The girl glanced around nervously. Her chocolate brown eyes looked at every corner and pierced into the distance behind the trees.

She knew some animal had cracked that twig, and soon it would come for her. The little girl stood trying to find the source of the noise so she may run in the other direction. All to soon the animal came charging out of the forest at full speed.

A cloud of dust came up and at the other side of the river the girl knew her monster was there. Try as she might her feet were stuck there, frozen in terror. The blanket of security she once had was lifted away by the wind. She took one look at the monster and knew he was no man. He was not a normal mortal, but a demon.

Fear shot through her eyes as she took on the sight. The demons body was covered with purple fur. He towered over her, nearly twelve feet in height. Her eyes rolled down to the creatures main weapon, his clawed hands. Each finger looked deadlier than the next. She could no longer look at those clawed fingers and went to the face. The eyes chilled her to the bone. Bloodshot eyes stared at her.

"Human give me the shard!" the demon demanded

Now was when the young girl bolted. She ran for her life, praying that Lord Sesshomaru would save her. She didn't know how she was able to conquer her fear and run, but she did. Self preservation maybe. The voice of the creature was too haunting. A low and very deep voice, hardly understandable words. She didn't know what he said but she was not willing to die... again!

---

Kagome ran through the forest crying. She was bruised and cut up badly. 'Inuyasha' she thought. 'Why did you.... Why did you have to leave me? Why did you have to die?'.

*FLASH BACK*

"Kagome!" Inuyasha whispered as she took a blow for him. "KAGOME!" he screamed louder as she hit the floor bleeding through an open wound at her side. Her blood passed through her fingers as she clutched her aching side. Inuyasha charged at her attacker in blood rage. Naraku dodged every attack sent his way. Kagome watched it all in horror.

Sango and Miroku ran to her, helping her to her feet. She grabbed her bow and notched an arrow. Sloppily she grabbed and pulled the string. Sango reached out and grabbed the string of the bow. Kagomes hand was to bloody to use it effectively. (blood is probably one of the most slipperiest substances on earth.) She took stance just like Kagome, gripping the bow and the string. They both needed to hold it, if not it wouldn't work. If Sango didn't hold it, then the arrow would be released to early and way off target, and if Kagome didn't hold the bow, then her spiritual powers would not be of any use to the arrow. So they both gripped the bow, aiming it and finally taking the shot.

Naraku cursed as the arrow pierced his flesh. Inuyasha was badly wounded and dieing from blood loss. Kagome could see it and knew what was going on. But she would not give up. She was not going to let him die.

Just then Inuyasha let out a cry of pain. Everyone watched as he fell to the ground. He clutched at his chest. He was dieing. There was no denying it now. If he didn't get medical attention soon, he would die. Kagome, or anyone for that matter had no time to react as Naraku let out a chilling laugh and swiped at Inuyasha's defenseless body.

Kagome cried out his name as he fell. With the last of his strength, Inuyasha plunged Tetsusiaga into Naraku's chest cavity. Inuyasha pulled out the sword along with the nearly completed Shikon no Tama.

Naraku's body was reduced to ashes.

Inuyasha gave a smile and fell to the ground. Kagome ran to his fallen body and cradled him until he died. There was nothing she could do. Her hands shakily moved to his face, cupping his cheek. It was so cold and pale. Both hands moved down to the side of his neck and lifted the prayer beads off. He could at least die a free man.

Inuyasha's eyes widened slowly. He felt the beads move off his shoulders. It didn't feel right anymore. He had them on for so long, it felt awkward without them.

Kagome placed the prayer beads around the hilt of Tetsusiaga and placed the sword next to her on the bloody ground. She had retrieved it from his fallen form and was not going to let him die without it. She gripped him for dear life. She hugged him, mindful of the wounds. He was so cold. The only warmth on his body was his flowing blood. It stained her clothing, though she could care less.

She only barely heard his last words. "Kagome, take the Tetsusiaga and finish up the jewel. Please, take care..... I..." he died before he could finish. Kagome cried throughout the whole ordeal, she picked up the Tetsusiaga and the shards and ran, she ran into the forest, bleeding and unprotected.

"Kagome wait!!!!" was all she heard of Sango's fading voice.

*END OF FLASH BACK*

Kagome finally stopped to catch her breath. She had been running for so long. She looked down at the hilt of Tetsusiaga and saw the prayer beads he use to wear. She fingered them tenderly as she cried. She slumped down by a large tree, sitting on her knees. She was so tired. She didn't know if she could even stand.

Her head immediately snapped to the west. Something was coming, and it had a jewel shard. She started to panic. She had no weapons what so ever. The Tetsusiaga was useless to her. Weakly she stood up. Her wounds were finally taking a toll on her. Using the tree for some support she was finally fully on her feet.

She watched as a girl came tumbling out of the trees. She noticed that it was not the demon that had the jewel shard, but the young girl. She bid the young girl over to her.

"Please help Rin!" the girl pleaded.

'Who is Rin? Is Rin this young girl or her sister somewhere?' Kagome questioned herself.

"You both have jewel shards. Give them to me!" a demon yelled as it launched out of the trees into an attack.

Kagome using fast moves and instinct pushed the girl out of the way, only to get hit with some of the demons attack. Kagome got up and grabbed the girls hand. She didn't know where this new source of energy came from but she was going to use it to get out of here and save this young girl and herself.

They both ran hand in hand away from the demon that chased them. The demon she had to say was mighty slow if two human females could out run it. But when it attacked that was a whole other story.

Suddenly Kagome tripped. The young girl stopped and tried to help her up.

"No run! You must leave." Kagome yelled to her but she didn't listen.

"You must get up. Please. You must get up. Don't leave Rin alone."

That settled who Rin was. Rin was the young girl that stood in front of her.

The demon was back and ready to take the shards. It was ready to strike when Kagome whirled around and flung her palms up. Out came a blast of power that flew the demon back a few yards. It was bleeding now and half of its face was missing.

"Damn miko bitch! You will die!"

That was the last of Kagome's power. Again she pushed the child away and was ready for the hit. When nothing came she looked up to see someone she didn't expect.

Sesshomaru.
