Concrete Angel

Concrete Angel

Kagome stepped into the school, carrying the grocery bag that held the contents of her lunch. A sandwich... That's all she was allowed to eat. That's all her father would allow her. She dropped the broken, tattered book that she carried in her other hand, and leaned over to retrieve it. She had to be careful though, seeing as she wore only a dress, black and lacy. She had learned that the linen of the dress would hide her own brokenness; the bruises that caressed her body. This was her only dress, the one her mother had worn so long ago. Kagome had worn it every day that year, careful to keep it clean.

She walks to school with the lunch she packed

Nobody knows what she's holdin' back

Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday

She hides the bruises with linen and lace

Ms. Kaede, her teacher, walked up to her as she entered her class room. She smiled to the young girl, about to ask her how day had been, when she saw her dark, blue eyes. Something about them hurt her soul. She thought she knew what Kagome was going through, but she refused to ask. It was not her place. Kagome sat down, not looking at anyone. No one looked at her, but one pair of eyes; the eyes that belonged to Sesshoumaru. The man had often wondered what was wrong with the girl that he found himself thinking of so often.

Kagome sighed, not letting anyone get close to her. Not physically, but emotionally. People often asked what was wrong, but she kept it to herself. No one would know. What happened often was to be kept to herself and herself only. She often found herself wondering why her mother had sent her to her father's. After her death, Kagome wanted to go to her grandfather's, but instead her father got her. Since then, she has often wished that her life had never been brought to this world.

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask

It's hard to see the pain behind the mask

Bearing the burden of a secret storm

Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Kagome stepped outside. It was pouring down rain, but the rain didn't bother her. It felt comforting on her red skin. While other students ran to their buses or cars, she stood, waiting until they all left. Once all the students had left, she took out the book that she had first dropped as she had stepped into the school. Sesshoumaru hid behind, not letting Kagome see he was there. The girl opened it to the front page. There stood the person she wished she could be. "Sleeping Beauty. You're just like a concrete angel. Asleep and dead to the world. Soon, you wake up, just like I will! I'll wake up and become known to the world. People will see me in the newspaper and on the T.V. news. People will be in awe!" Kagome said to her self, staring at the picture of Aurora in the picture book.

Through the wind and the rain

She stands hard as a stone

In a world that she can't rise above

But her dreams give her wings

And she flies to a place where she's loved

Concrete Angel!

Her scream filled the air. Her father was drunk again, and was taking her mother's death out on her. He picked up a knife, angry at Kagome about nothing. He looked around and spotted his daughter at the window, yelling for help. He walked over to her, smacking her down, and closing the blinds. The neighbors shivered as they saw her go down. The pain the girl had to be going through was un-bearable. Mr. Higurashi would be furious if they interfered though, so they kept their distance. Kagome screamed one last time as the knife sliced through her body. It was time for Kagome's life to end. The morning came with police surrounding the Higurashi house.

Somebody cries in the middle of the night

The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights

A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate

When morning comes it'll be too late

Through the wind and the rain

She stands hard as a stone

In a world that she can't rise above

But her dreams give her wings

And she flies to a place where she's loved

Concrete angel

Sesshoumaru stood in front of the grey tombstone. 'Kagome Higurshi' was written on it, with a statue of an angel sitting on it, lifting it's arms and eyes to the heavens. He smiled to himself, the first time he had ever done so, and walked away. He had fulfilled his duties. He picked up a newspaper from the ground, and there she was, front page. She had been in the newspaper, and the T.V. news. Everyone was in awe of her story. "Kagome, your dream is true. Let's go home," Sesshoumaru said, holding out his hand to Kagome. She took it, and the two angels walked away, away to help others in need.

A statue stands in a shaded place

An angel girl with an upturned face

A name is written on a polished rock

A broken heart that the world forgot

Through the wind and the rain

She stands hard as a stone

In a world that she can't rise above

But her dreams give her wings

And she flies to a place where she's loved

Concrete angel
