To Perish Once More: Chapter One: Dawn

~Jasmine Fields (a.k.a. Jazzy)~

Her deep rooted hatred and pain threatened to mock the work of a life time and all emotion spent over the decades in the afterlife now threatened a harbored river of tears to gush out as she glared daggers into her former lover's friend and confidant.

Tugging an arrow from her quiver, she gauged the distance and pulled on the bowstring with the necessary strength intending to remove Kagome from her world.

It was surely an immense risk to allow this dreadfully compassionate vision to remain living...just as equal of a risk to allow her death.

What to do?

She's saved me before.

Withdrawing her arrow, she considered alternate means of victory apart from that other half of her soul – the part that lived.

For now, I'll wait.

The silence of Inuyasha's Forest was deafening...and against all her training, she muttered her curse.

In spite of living in the prison of her corpse, tears broke free as she cursed the heavens, earth, and him for the love of that woman!

That counterfeit! How dare she steal away what is mine!

Damn that dog for abandoning me! Damn him for flirting with my other self! Damn his betrayal!

Her thoughts screamed pain while she padded the newly softened earth dusted in the finest morning mist.

She wanted him to repent and return with her to bury her own sorrow and his guilt-infested heart from the anguish of 50 years past and erase the steeped misery and reminiscence of a torturously slow death.

She would force him to remember his vows...if it was the last thing she did. She would cause his devastation in the end. She refused to forget, even though he was no longer the true enemy.

He does not belong with her.

She knew she was sulking, but then, it would only be for a few more moments that she would needlessly cry her sorrow and unheard song. Yes, she could not deny that her lover adored that woman.

Kagome was, after all, kind, caring, sensitive, and capable of healing the deepest of heartaches...even her own. She undeniably held the capacity to destroy utterly all who crossed her, should she choose to act upon her powers in such a manner.

Good thing for her own existence that the future woman never lifted weapons or words against her person. Good thing that Kagome didn't know of her favor during this time of war and devastation.

Silently, she withdrew her arrow and vanished further into the forest line as she watched Kagome return to her dimension and time.

Her relief was imminent...for the time.

What is that?

Wait a minute...Kagome?

No... that isn't quite right.

What are those spine-chilling lights?

The intensity of fury surrounding her spirit is strangely corrupt with rage.

How odd.

A minion of Naraku?

No... it doesn't smell like any demon belonging to that hell-bringer.

What are you?

Kagome?

No. Never.

He knew. He always knew another's emotions.

That was definitely not my Kagome.

~Sniff~

What's Dog-breath doing here? What could he possibly find so interesting in that grass meadow? Why isn't Kagome with that twit?

He followed the direction of the half-inu, encouraged at the possibility of resting awhile in the presence of the girl – no, woman – he highly esteemed and adored.

He needed the calming influence of her scent...of her feminine appeal...no matter the fact that she didn't return the same affections. She was his world despite the unrequited affection.

He stood arrogant.

Flawless. Perfect...

He was a strikingly ferocious beast to any who threatened his position.

He craved pure power.

His thoughts turned.

With that despicable hanyou loose reeking havoc across the land, I might be up for a challenge.

....but then he didn't really like challenges.

Challenges are usually trouble...and upset the near perfect equilibrium established among the living...powerful or not.

He lifted his royal nose toward the scent of a demon present – a wolf.

Hmmph. No challenge there.

Yet, he was curious why the wolf demon was out of his domain.

He bristled...

Damn half-brother. What business did that Inu have here?

Interesting...

He caught the woman's scent.

Woman...seems you have several...on-lookers.

He would remember to watch this Kagome in the future, as she seemed the eager object of attention to everyone...including the corpse priestess, and if he were completely honest, the object of his own curiosity.

She is a wonder...someone prevalent, mysterious, and incredibly secretive. She is, indeed, powerful.

He watched as the woman jumped into the ancient shrine well and noticed the poison-insect disappear in the shadows.
