La vie en rose By: samui

Masaharu Mansion Long Island

Music was being played in the large courtyard of large state as important guests and associates chattered about everything and anything but important. Most were business men and their conceited looking wives who came for either business or pleasure. All of them dress in the most extravagant or the most expensive clothes, clearly flaunting their riches as they showered themselves in diamonds. Those who aren't married were just there to look for a catch, as they showed of their body and money in their sexy expensive apparels.

Cleary the courtyard was huge because most of the guests are standing outside evidently enjoying the cool summer breeze that the night gave off. And it was also quite elegant as the place was lit with lanterns that were pleasing to eyes and the white marble railings that surrounded most of the patio were entwined by white roses. Next to the intricately designed French glass doors that leads to the ball room where some guest were the musicians whom been playing a smooth waltz for some time now. To the other side of the door was the wine bar where one of the house butlers was playing bartender and was serving wine and champagne to the guests.

But clearly no one was dancing since the owner of the house hasn't arrived yet with his two sons. Rude, quite possibly. But at that moment, the guests inside the ballroom had stopped talking, and after a few seconds, the owner of the house and his younger son came out in the courtyard. Where the older one was of no concern to her, but to her guess he was inside the ballroom talking with some business men or greeting the guests.

At the moment they came out, the guests all stopped talking and the master of the house motioned the musicians to stop. Everybody was in silence as they waited for what the old man has got to say.

The old man cleared his throat before he said anything, he was around his 60's and he has retired from his position as the owner of a successful trading company and has passed it on to his eldest son. Everyone respected the retired business man and those who didn't might be some kind of eunuch.

"I thank everyone for coming to this party, and I hope that you are enjoying yourselves. Please feel free to look around and dance. The musicians will play anything that you good people wished, and the bartender will see to your drinks. The buffet is inside if you are hungry." He paused for a second before continuing on. "I would also like to introduce my son, Inuyasha, whom will be joining us tonight. Now, we need music and I hope everyone will have a good time." As his speech ended, the guests clapped their hands as the music played, and the men and their wives started to dance. Most of the unmarried bachelorettes flocked the man named Inuyasha who was wearing an off white tuxedo. He was around 20 years old with long silvery white hair that seemed unruly but he has extremely boyish good looks that got most of the women to flutter their eyelashes uncontrollably as if about to faint.

He was a bit startled at first as the women gathered around him like butterflies, but soon recovered as a maiden wearing a long elegant flowing strapless red dress pulled him in the middle of the courtyard to dance with her. She was beautiful with long flowing straight black hair and full red lips that went nicely with her dress. Everyone took a look at the two as they waltz in the middle of the dance floor and exchange words that no one can hear but themselves. They probably got everybody saying 'what a cute couple they'd make.'

The patio was surrounded by large leafy trees, but the largest one a few meters from patio beyond the nicely cut shrubs was called the Goshinboku. It came from a far away land in the Far East. It was planted by the late mistress who brought it from her homeland to plant it here. But the most interesting thing about this tree is not the actual tree but the person who is up the tree. A girl around 18 years of age was lying on one of the large branches surrounded by leaves to hide her from the mindless chattering guests. But she neither cared if they see her because they can't for it's far too dark and her branch was behind the tree facing the full silvery blue moon. And with her blue sundress and navy blue blanket covering her she would be able to camouflage in the dark.

She didn't care much for the party for she knew that she would never belong there even if she wished hard enough. She only came to see the full moon and its glory while listening to the comforting music that was coming from the courtyard. Relaxing and yet sad for she is alone by herself with no one to share the comforting view.

But it wasn't meant to be and her peaceful sanctuary was broken when she heard someone giggling from below. It was Inuyasha and the girl.

"Kikyo, I think this is not the right place to be doing this." He said as the girl, whom we now know as Kikyo, giggled where should they go?

"Well, meet me at the tennis court. I will bring us champagne and I will have the musicians play us a song." Inuyasha said as he let go of her waist. She nodded her head yes and was off to the tennis court real fast but before she did they kissed intimately under the large tree completely oblivious of the person looking at them from above. Inuyasha quickly rushed into the wine bar and got two champagne glasses and put them in his back pocket. He also requested a bottle of very expensive champagne. Then he told the musicians to play something after they finished the song. Probably a love song thought the girl from up the tree.

"Typical." She mumbled.

"I'm quite disturbed grand-daughter that you look at the master and the woman with such contempt. May I ask what is it that you don't like about the woman?" An old man wearing a chauffeur's uniform came out of the dark shadows of the trees and started towards the girl. He was pretty old, but his eyes sparkled with great wisdom as he looked at the girl on top of the Goshinboku.

"You know this tree has a lot of history behind it. A long time ago.." The girl up the tree sweat-dropped and shook her head 'here we go again' and decided that he should just go and answer him.

"I just don't like her." She said plainly. 'Do I actually look at them with contempt?' She thought as she took off her eyes away from the patio and looked at the moon again.

"Or is it just that you don't like any woman that comes close to Master Inuyasha?" He asked, but only silence answered him. "Kagome, forget about Master Inuyasha. You two came from different worlds. Don't waste your life child chasing something you can not have."

He disappeared quickly in the dark. Probably, went back to the servant quarters to sleep. She heard everything he said even though she pretended not to. And when she knew that she was alone she silently mumbled to herself.

"I'm in love with him. Can't help it?" Then she gathered her blanket and swung her leg to the side so she could jump off the branch. The second she jumped off, she saw Inuyasha looking at her surprise clearly in his face.

"Good evening, Mr. Inuyasha." She said politely.

"Good evening, Kagome. Isn't your bedtime already?" The girl blushed crimson evidently insulted by being treated like a child. But being only a chauffeur's grand-daughter, she let him slide.

"I was about to retire to my quarters, Mr. Inuyasha." She replied.

"Then I bid you good night, Ms. Kagome." Then he suddenly ran off towards the tennis court.

"What a jerk!" She frowned, but it quickly disappeared as she stared at his departing figure. "Good night to you, too, Inuyasha."
