Is there a difference between a taiyoukai and a daiyoukai?

I've heard Sesshomaru be called both, I myself call him a tai, but I wanted to know if there was a distiction between the two.

I heard that it's spelled daiyoukai but pronounced taiyoukai. *shrugs*
