Strange Things

(A/N: Super short one shot but here you go!!)

Blue eyes sparkled happily as small hands adjusted the broken halo that resting on top of wavy raven locks. Pink full lips stretched up into a small smile when the girl saw her reflection in the mirror, her petite form completely covered in black. The look competed by huge feathered wings that rested comfortably on her shoulder blades.

Kagome sighed,  she wasn't sure how everyone would react to her costume, they didn't really celebrate halloween in the feudal era. But the miko didn't care, October 31st was her favourite day of the year, it was the one day where she could be anything she wanted without people looking at her like she was crazy, well in modern times anyways. The blue eyed miko did not think that she would draw too much attention to herself, considering the amount of scary demons that constantly prowled the feudal era.

Kagome looked in the mirror one last time before she made her way down the stairs, she didn’t dare go too fast, her heels were far too high for that. The last thing that she needed was Inuyasha getting mad at her because she either broke or sprained her ankle in an attempt to walk down the stairs.

The young miko was greeted by her mother’s worried face as she made her way into the kitchen, she wondered what had gotten her mother so worked up, usually she was the calm one. “Kagome dear?”

“Yes mom, what’s wrong?” The look her mother was giving her had gotten worse, it made her heart beat speed up and breaths quicken.

Brown haunted eyes stared into confused sapphire orbs, “I do not think you should go down the well today, strange things happen on halloween.”

Kagome was worried but she really wanted to go see her friends, “Mom you know what happens in the feudal era everyday so I am sure that I can handle whatever halloween can throw at me.”

Kagome’s mother gave her daughter one last glance, as if she was memorising her features, and walked away. The miko would have questioned her mother’s strange attitude, had it not been holloween, her mom was probably just trying to scare her.

The blue eyed girl swung her legs over the wall of the well, just about ready to jump in, when the door swung open and her brother came flying in.

“Kagome! Please don’t go!!” The brown haired boy tried to grab his sister but he was to late, by the time he made it to the well the magic had already faded.

‘That was weird,’ thought Kagome, why did her her brother looked so scared, it was not like she wouldn’t see him again.

Her thoughts quickly moved to something else as she felt something strange enter her body and the changing colours of the magic surrounding her. Confusion changed to fear the instant she had the ability to move the wings on her back that were once fake feathers and cardboard.

Before Kagome could truly understand what happened she was standing at the bottom of the well, the morning light casting away the shadows that she so often saw. Climbing out of the well was a lot harder with a pair of heavy wings weighing her down but the young girl made it out faster then she would have with her yellow backpack, which she now noticed was not with her, ‘Probably left it in the well house,’ she absently thought.

Drawn out of her thoughts by the forest surrounding her, Kagome flexed her hand, called to her powers, looked down at her arms and nearly had a heart attack, running from the back of her hand up to her shoulder were beautiful black markings, some looking like whimsical feather patterns. She was still covered head to toe in her black angel costume but it looked more realistic, in a strange way. The blue eyed girl looked over her patterned shoulder and realised that what she felt in the well was real, bluish-black wings were coming out of her shoulderblades. Kagome tried moving them and was surprised when her new wings opened up to their full width, about 8 feet of beautiful long feathers.

Kagome was so immersed in exploring the changes that her body went through, that she did not notice as the forest quieted, animals and demons alike fleeing from the ultimate predator, “Miko.”

Startled by the youkai’s sudden appearance gasped out, “Why are you here Sesshomaru?”

“Hn, the wind carried a new smell on it, I simply came to investigate the strange occurrence.” His tone neutral, but had she been paying attention the blue eyed girl would have noticed a shimmer of curiosity shining in his eyes.

Kagome glanced at her arms and looked back up at the daiyoukai, “I really don’t get why I look like this,” She made a gesture at herself, “Or how it happened.”

Sesshomaru stared at her long black wings and smirked, fangs glistening in the light, “Stranger things have happened.”
