That light... by Itoe

That Light...

Disclaimer: I own nothing. It all belongs to the great R. Takahashi.

I wrote this story a few years ago and it became quite the hit in the german language and thought that maybe you’d like it, too. =)

I’ll try to translate it as good as I can. Bear with me…

Also, someone is trying to make this story into a doujinshi, well, wanted to.. but let's see, what happens. =)

That light…

Finally. Naraku stood finally before them. Ready, to say goodbye to the living world. The Jewel of Four Souls laid in his palms. The young priestess could do nothing but shudder at that sight. It was terrible and promised only death and pain to this world. She could not understand, why? She had seen many evil people in her life, be it human, demon or even half demon. Still, she believed that everyone had at least something good within themselves.

She found something good even within Sesshomarus heart.

But Naraku… he played on a whole another level. Purest of evil, darker than the black of death. He just loved separating loving people and put together some new foes against himself. How he managed that every and each time? She did not know. She wanted to believe that he received the might to do just that from the black jewel in his palms but knew it to be untrue. And she hated the fact that their foe was intelligent. At the same time she thought him to be stupid. With this group of foes, he definitely did a fatal mistake.

However, Inuyasha scented a few hours prior the stench of Narakus Miasma and ran straight to him. For the others in the Inuyasha-Group it all smelt like a trap, as always. Surprisingly, this time Naraku came personally. Normally, he would send just a minion or a puppet but never Naraku himself. And he would never show himself when Sesshomaru, was close by.

Of course, the Lord of the West came as soon as he scented the monster, too.

“Naraku.” Sesshomarus greeting was dripping with heavy disdain and hatred.

“Ah, Sesshomaru-Sama.” Surprisingly, Naraku took it quite well to Sesshomarus appearance and smiled nearly in a friendly manner, “How nice it is to see you again. Hope, you fared well?”

The dog demon narrowed his eyes dangerously as he sent him the promises of the most painful death possible through eye contact to which Naraku only giggled like a mad man.

“Stop laughing like a girl, bastard! Fight me!” Inuyasha all but screamed and unsheathed the Tetsusaiga which transformed right away. He levelled the tip of his fang at Naraku and sprinted without waiting for his companions.

“INUYASHAAA!” Kagome called out to him. The hanyou stopped running turned around to see that Kagome turned red with her ire.

“WHAT?! Don’t ya see that we have to kill someone?!” he screamed annoyed back and waved his sword back and forth.

“My friend, wait just one moment. Naraku definitely some evil plans. He would definitely not lead us to himself right away. Even Kagura and Kanna are nowhere to be seen. It all looks like a trap to me.” The monk also put his two cents in and waited for the final decision of his group.

They did not expect for Naraku to wait that long on his spot within this huge clearing.

“Keh! So what?!” Inuyasha turned his head to the other half demon with hatred and full of himself, “I’ll kill’em all!”

Sesshomaru on the other hand just eyed the spider half demon with narrowed eyes as if he was being annoyed by a nasty mosquito that tried to bite in his flawless skin. Not that any mosquito would ever be able to bite his flesh but it was all about the meaning.

And that was then when he felt it. He felt some pair of eyes on himself. He turned his head in the direction of Inuyashas group, to the females to be exactly who were standing back.

They both looked at him… oddly. Even worry shone through their eyes. And they did not even avert their eyes when they met with his.

Were they worried because he had only one arm? No weapon but the healing abilities of the Tensaiga? This meant only one thing: they underestimated him! They thought him weak! He grit his teeth as his eyes narrowed just a bit more. They noticed his annoyance and turned right to each other and looked more worried.

The girls remembered the day Shishinki came. Sesshomaru had been in a silent rage as he found out about the Meidou Zangetsuha’s truth. Everything was for his younger brother. On the very same day, he gifted that useless skill to his brother and he himself was left with nothing but a sword that healed. Without saying another word, he had turned around and left for good.

Even Inuyasha offered him to stay with his group. But the demon refused. And everyone understood, why. He was a Lord. If he was without any weapons and without any form of protection and then joined forces with Inuyasha, a half demon, then it would have been a sign of his weakness, at least in the eyes of the other Lords.

His pride would have never allowed that to happen. Since that day, he left his companions Rin and Jaken back in his castle, where they were safe, where everyone respected him.

Kagome wanted to help him. He deserved it after one year of only pain. And who knew how long he really was in pain? Maybe since the day he found out about his father and a human lover for whom he left his family? Maybe that was the reason why he was such an icicle?

However, she had the opinion that he deserved a tiny little bit of help. She herself had help from the very beginning from Kaede. Since Magatsuhi, the evil spirit of the Shikon no Tama, sealed her powers away, she needed a huge help. There were 50 powerful priests and 30 Mikos only to destroy the seal on her powers which was made on the day she was born. Since then, she could see many… odd things. She was able to control her powers much better now. Still not perfect, but good enough.

Thanks to her better powers, she could see a huge seal on Sesshomarus soul. It was just an odd symbol which she could not identify. But it was a seal. She shared this small secret only with Sango. For a very long time, she thought about the way she could help the demon lord. She saw that the seal was not only on his soul but also something very powerful. She guessed it was a weapon or a new skill of his. She knew not.

But who would put such a powerful seal  on Sesshomaru? And who was that strong anyway?

After discussing these details with Sango they came to a conclusion. It had to have been his father. He was well known for creating the weirdest barriers. The reason was? They never found out.

Kagome turned to look at Naraku who was now eying her with mischief. A cold shiver ran down from her spine to her feet as she saw the evil red of his eyes. Her gut feeling told her that he had an evil plan which had something to do with her. And that was possible, as always.

Her eyes wandered back to Sesshomaru who now concentrated on the battlefield, waiting for the right moment to strike. She trusted that Inuyasha had become very powerful during these last few years. But she knew he was not strong enough to beat a Naraku with a whole black Jewel. What if they failed? She could not risk that. Determined, she looked at Sango who nodded her consent.

“I’ll have your back.” The slayer promised and they started to walk towards Sesshomaru.

An annoyed sigh left his lips as he felt their approach.

“Hey! Kagome! Where do ya think you’re going?! The enemy is right there… on the other side!” Inuyasha screamed back as he saw her retreat but was interrupted by the monk who forced him to watch.

The Lord of the West had the desire to kill his brother first and then Naraku. After these two he would take care of the women. But he ignored them for the time being. He felt the slayers tension, her eying everything and readying herself for any attack that might come. Her tiny hands gripped the lace of her huge boomerang into small fists. The miko on the other hand showed great determination, something like that he had not seen for quite a few centuries. He did not look at them directly since he watched Naraku, but he saw them from the corner of his eye.

Kagome cleared her throat when she reached him and waited for a sign of attention which she expected to have received quite fast when he turned his head towards her.

“Hurry, Kagome. We don’t have much time. Naraku will definitely attack soon.” The slayer warned and tensed some more as she saw the narrowing of the enemy’s eyes.

The miko nodded all the while not breaking eye contact with the demon in front of her.

“Lord Sesshomaru.” Kagome started and thought about the right words, “I… would like to help you with your goal.”

To her statement, she received only a cocked eyebrow and a look from him that told her that she was crazy.

“You would be of great help if you would disappear from my sight and destroy the jewel, girl.” He replied and tried that way to get rid of them.

“Yes, that too.”, she confirmed, even though she referred only to the second part, “But I want to help you to get rid of that… that… seal.”

The determination from before was gone, and this girl who looked like a lost puppy, was left behind. But not only her determination was gone, but his as well. “My seal?” he asked surprised.

“Yes, since my seal has been broken, I can see many…weird things...” She whispered and her eyes turned to Naraku who only observed and did nothing. That moment felt like time had stopped flowing. The trees surround the huge clearing was like a colosseum in which the participants waited for the fighting signal. The sun would soon reach its peak. There was no cloud in the baby-blue sky. This day would have been perfect for families with children, to have a perfect picnic. But this perfection had its hidden taints. The birds did not sing their love songs. The wind came to a halt and the animals in the forest stopped moving.

“...I can see things behind barriers. I can see seals that should not be seen. And I can see your seal which by the way is very powerful.” The miko whispered silently. She knew, had she been in a movie she would have been the person who could see dead people.

The demon sniffed around her without showing what he did and smelt no deceit.

“Who do you think put a seal on me?” he asked after a while but he already had an idea.

“I believe your father who was well known with… odd barriers and seals.”

Kagome could see how one of his eyes narrowed more than the other which showed his ire.

‘Is that the reason he gave me Tensaiga? Did he believe I would not need a weapon if I had my true powers? If so, why did he seal his powers away and leave him without any useful weapons? But if my father put a seal, then it is going to be impossible to destroy it.’ He thought with disdain and eyed the girl before him, ‘But this girl had been able to destroy one of his seals.’

He did not understand. Why? Why did he do what he did?

“You believe that you can destroy it?” he hated to accept help, especially from a human. But this was his only chance it would seem and he would definitely not get another one in a few centuries.

“I don’t know. I have to try.” She was too honest and blushed softly as she looked to the grass beneath her feet.

“I suggest you hurry.” Warned the slayer again and readied herself for a fight.

Kagome just sat down in Seiza and folded her hands into each other. After hesitating one moment, Sesshomaru followed suit.

“Open your heart for me.” She whispered softly and knew that it was a difficult task for the demon. To her surprise he did as instructed and closed his eyes.

“Everything you see shall be left unsaid, or else…”

The threat hung in the air and she smiled sheepishly. “Yes, of course!”

Before Kagome lost consciousness in Sesshomarus soul she felt Narakus rage and erected a barrier around herself, the demon and Sango. In that very moment, Narakus tentacles touched her barrier which turned to ash right away.

Inuyasha screamed and swung his word at Naraku, who fought back. The fight began with only Inuyasha and the monk.

The slayer put herself between the miko and Naraku for protection.

Miroku and Inuyasha did put up a good fight. A very good team work which could work out.

Kagome saw nothing but darkness. But she could feel everything. It was… broken. It was lonely. Bitter. There was too much hatred and ire. This almost felt like the darkness had been swallowed up into a soul, never to be seen by anyone.

After walking a little while, she saw a part which was a bit darker than the rest. And of course, she approached the darkest part of his soul. And that was it. She found herself in a traditional Japanese castles corridor. Everywhere hung portraits of the Taisho family which was weird. Beside each portrait, there were locked doors. She walked and tested each door until she came to the last one. The portrait beside this one was Sesshomarus and surprisingly, this shoji door was slightly open. Hesitantly at first, she reached out but opened it fully none the less. She peeked inside and saw nothing but darkness. But maybe, she had to walk in and she would find herself in another room?

After a few steps the candles lit themselves and she was startled at the scene before her.

Lying in a futon with half opened eyes was Sesshomaru. She approached him slowly and sat down right beside his bed. Her first inspection was that he was in a sort of coma which was a very scary thought.

“Sesshomaru?”

No reaction from him. But she tried again and called his name with the same result. Her gaze slid from his face to his body. He was covered in a black blanket. And oddly, it had the same symbol like the seal she had seen on Sesshomaru.

‘Maybe he is just uncomfortable with this blanket covering his soul?’, she thought and saw that he wore an armor and she could see the outline of his sword on his hip, ‘Yes, he must hate this blanket, that’s why he is such a pain!’

With that she reached for the blanket and pulled it down a few centimetres but stopped when she heard a deep intake of breath and saw the rhythmic moving of his chest. She let go of the blanket and eyed him warily. ‘Really… because of this blanket?’ she thought flabbergasted.

She looked at his face and shrieked. His face was still the same, except his eyes. They were looking straight at her. It was impatience she could see.

But that was the reason why she was here. Her determination was back as she reached again for the blanket. But she was stopped again as she heard the doors unlocking from the corridor she just walked through.

Scared, she looked on to the door as soldiers clad in white walked through and surrounded her and Sesshomaru. Some of them she recognized as the men on the portraits outside.

They all just stared at Kagome with wide eyes. And Kagome did the same to them. How was that possible?!

“Huh.”, said one with a huge smile on his face and she watched as the tension left his strong shoulders, “This is a huge surprise.”

Kagome knew him. She had seen him once. “Touga-Sama?” she asked with shock written all over her face.

“Yes, that is my name. I would suggest that you leave that blanket where it is, my dear. Do not touch it.” He warned her with a warm smile.

Instead of being warm herself she asked in an annoyed tone: “How come you are all in HIS soul?!”

No one had the right to be in the soul of someone else. Not even the very own ancestors.

Now, all the other males in the room began to ease their tension and began smiling like mad men. This all felt just like a bad movie.

“I see.”, said a male right behind Touga and laid his hand on his shoulder, “My son, this is the miko who travels with Inuyasha, right?”

“Yes, indeed, father.” Touga replied with a huge smile.

To her surprise, each male had a warmth in their eyes and she could not understand why Sesshomaru was the only exception. But she could already hear the reply from the demon on the ground. He was the mighty Lord Sesshomaru. Lord of Arrogance on a piece of land.  Yes, that was quite accurate.

Touga came to Kagomes side and sat down, all the while eying his son.

“Did he ask you for your help?”

“No. I offered him my help.” She replied.

“I see. May I ask why you would do that?”

“I want to help him to be whole again. He deserves that much.” She explained and observed that mans face. But he did nothing but smile.

“I see. Hm.” Now, he looked at her with hope in his eyes, “Why do you think he deserves that? I am sure you already know that we all have sealed him. But we did not do that for fun, there is always a good reason.”

Now she understood. Sesshomaru had been sealed because he was a danger! With that evil character of his!

But what should she tell him? Why did she think that he deserved his power back?

“He changed.” She said, simple as that.

All the lords in the room looked at each other in wonder and whispered things she could not hear.

“I see.” Touga said to the others and then turned to Kagome to ask how much his son had changed.

“This is so crazy, you know. You all know everything about Inuyasha and his companions. But you practically know nothing about Sesshomaru, do you?!” with that, she pointed her finger in the lying Sesshomaru’s direction. “If you never noticed, well, Sesshomaru is no longer the EXTREME human hater…. But he still is a humanhater… Still, he has a little human girl as his ward, even though he still likes to play butcher with humans as his playthings… But now he is only butchering people who are bad. Like the evil enemy outside right now in this very moment.”

Her speech did not impress at all. And the former Lord just looked at her.

“Miko, do you love my son, in any way possible?” he asked softly.

What was that for a stupid question?!

“Depends on which son we’re talking about.” She replied annoyed and narrowed her eyes in his direction who in turn smirked.

“I mean, if you love Sesshomaru in any way. Not only the romantic way but I do not exclude that possibility.” He explained with the hugest smirk she had ever seen and to her embarrassment, the other lords smirked, too.

“You can’t be serious. He is not someone to be loved!” she said without thinking and embarrassment.

All men, except for Sesshomaru, started to laugh out loud.

“You say he changed but still does not deserve to be loved? Not even from the person who is supposed to “help” him?” said Touga after he managed to stop laughing.

“He is such a disappointment. If his blood would not be like mine I would say he was never my son.”

That was it. She knew why the demon on the ground was so bitter. Did no one love him? Even his father said such terrible things. Did he have to hear these things, too, when he was but a child?

“I have changed my mind.”

She fixated each figure in the room with her most hateful look. The smirks on their faces disappeared as they felt her ire.

“You have decided to not help him anymore?” Touga asked puzzled.

“No. I will help him. And he does deserve to be loved. You are at fault that he is the way he is today. What kind of a father would say such things to his son?! No wonder he hates you!” Kagome screamed at her “father-in-law”.

What a terrible life Sesshomaru must have had. What a terrible family.

“You dare to question my way of raising my son?!” Touga asked enraged and stood up.

“What raising?! Don’t you feel the bitter and broken soul of your son? The deep hatred and ire he feels?! What you have done to him is not fair and no one deserves that shit! You have no right to be here!”

Tougas ire was gone the second he understood what she meant.

“I understand your ire, Miko. But pay heed to your words. Demons raise their pups differently than humans.”

With a wave of his hand, he told his ancestors that everything would be fine and that they could retire. All the males, except for father and son by her side, left the room and waited outside.

“You see, Sesshomaru was very aggressive since he was a pup. He destroyed and killed everything and everyone out of fun.”

She watched him as he remembered things from the past.

“One day, as he turned 100 years old I watched him play with other pups his age. If one could call it playing. It was all strategy on his part which made me very proud at first. But when I looked closer, I never saw him smile or laugh. Instead he fought with everyone as if it was all real. I knew right then that he would never be a compassionate Lord. And then, the very same night, my worries were confirmed. I was in the gardens as I saw a weird light coming out of the room of my son. I ran as fast as I could to reach him, to protect him from any harm. Instead, I saw him holding a huge Daikatana. The light came from that weapon and it was very warm and welcoming. It was very beautiful. It was noble just like he himself. Still, it scared me. I felt like it was killing me from the inside out. It was a very dangerous sword. I did not understand from where it came. And then, he saw me and gifted me with a smile that sent shivers down my spine. I will never forget his words: See, honored father, now, I am strong enough to kill everyone.

And that damn pup was right. I knew he meant that he could kill me, too, if he wanted to. And damn it! He was with only 100 years strong enough to really kill everyone!”

Kagome felt for this father. She knew that even Sesshomaru was a bit too evil, even for demon standards.

“And then, a few hundred soldiers ran into the room with the belief that the heir was in danger. Sesshomaru swung his sword and killed each one of them with one swing. I knew he could kill more in one swing. And I could not allow him to walk this earth with that much power. Only my experience brought me the advantage I needed and disarmed him. I took away his sword which was the moment he collapsed and lost consciousness.”

Touga looked into his arms as if remembering that night too clearly.

“But, I could not kill my son. I decided that I should erase this memory. The Daikatana I gave to monks, priests and priestesses to hide it in his soul so I could seal it away. I had hoped that he would be ready for that power until the day I died. But unexpectedly, I died an early death. But even for that I had planned something as a backup. I asked our ancestors for help. The seal from me and the holy people grew weaker with time. Our ancestors understood my dilemma and were willing to help. We all crept into his soul through my seal. His ire received more wood.”

The miko looked through the whole story into Sesshomarus eyes who in return looked at her without any emotion.

“And then we built this huge castle so he would never find a way out. You are lucky enough that you found the right place. The evil in him walked these corridors without a tiny little bit of light. And then, we found him, too and attacked. We subdued him with our last efforts and sealed him into this blanket. The blanket, my dear, is the seal you are searching for.

“I see. You think that if I free him from this seal, he is going to be the killer from back then?” the miko asked and received a sad nod from the former Lord of the West.

“Son, I do not understand why you are so quiet. Do you not have anything to say?” Touga asked his son with a sad smile.

The way Sesshomarus eyes slid to his father was nothing but scary and formed goosebumps on her skin.

“What do you think should I say, honored father? You know I will kill you all when I am free.” Sesshomaru replied as if it was the most normal and logical thing to do.

“Huh? And that would be?” Kagome asked annoyed.

“To kill them all.” He replied simply, “He crept into my soul and sealed me. Betrayal deserves death as punishment.”

When she heard his last statement she slapped him on his forehead who looked somewhat irritated at her.

“Don’t you dare threatening your own father! I pretend I heard nothing!” After saying that, the miko crossed her arms and turned her away in annoyance. Still, she felt a pang in her chest. Sesshomaru was a killer. No compassion and definitely no feelings.  How was she to trust him in the battle against Naraku?

Sesshomaru opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted when the door to his room was ripped open and an ancestor came running in.

“He’s coming!” he said and ran out again.

Touga became very stiff and looked at the miko irritated.

“You lead him here.” He said, “I suggest you leave this place as soon as you can.”

“Who did I lead here?” she asked in confusion.

“His consciousness.” With that he left her alone and went outside, only to lock the door behind him.

Kagome turned her eyes to the demon on front of her who could not move an inch.

“I don’t understand.” She said.

“I am his beast.” The demon explained, “We are two halves that were separated for many centuries.”

That, she understood. So she lead the Sesshomaru from outside to his own beast?

“Why do I deserve to be loved? You did not explain this part.”, he asked a tiny little bit softer voice.

Kagome was confused. Why would he care about such a thing? But he looked hopeful in that very moment or she just pretended that he looked like that.

“Everyone deserves to be loved. Even someone who killed without reason.” She explained and touched his forehead in a friendly manner to free his moon. He closed his eyes and tried to melt into her touch. Did he actually want to be loved?

When the warmth left his face, he opened his eyes to look at her again. He remembered her, somewhat, through the very weak connection he had with his other half.

“I tried to kill you, too.” He said and observed her reaction.

“Yes, but I still live. See?”, she said and giggled which bewildered the beast.

“Why would you want to help me? Surely you will gain something from this.” He just had to ask.

The miko looked at him with unsure intentions. Clearly, she did not know what she should do.

“To be honest, I am not sure. I thought it would be great if you could help us destroy the evil outside from here. But seeing that you would be the next killer evil, I’d rather not help you.”

She sighed a heavy breath.

“Naraku.”, he said.

Kagome only nodded and found it weird, that Sesshomaru never blinked since she came into the room. And to be honest, that was quite scary.

“Yes, I wanted to help you so you could help Inuyasha.” She sighed again. “I only wanted a world without any wars… and happiness and stuff.. you know what I mean?”

“What is a world without war ?” he asked with a light in his eyes. He truly enjoyed this topic. Death, death, death and more death.

“It would be a much better world.”, she replied annoyed. That light disappeared in his eyes and he looked at her for an explanation.

“Imagine, you have a family. A wife and a child…”

“A pup.” He corrected.

“A wife and a pup.” She repeated and continued. “They are home. They are happy and are laughing. But then, they are sad because you are warring, again. And while you are outside of your home, your enemies reach your castle and kill everyone. How would you react?”

She watched as he narrowed his eyes. “No one can destroy what is mine. I shall kill them all.”

“Are they your property or your family? Could you look at your son like he was a vase in a room?” she asked calmly.

After a while of thinking her words over, he replied that he understood what she meant.

“Would you die for your family, Sesshomaru?” she asked as she played with her lock.

“Of course. It is my duty to protect my land.”

Kagome was fascinated that the beast would reply everything so openly and honestly.

“How about friends?” she asked with a huge smile.

“I know not what that is. Nor do I need such a thing.” He said bored.

Even though he told her that he was not interested, she still wanted to explain things to him. Simply to make things easier.

“A friend is someone like… like an ally. Only a bit more intimate. You and your friend can share all your secrets. Do you remember Rin?”

“That human girl. But my consciousness does not tell her any secrets.”

“But she tells him everything. Or you, or whoever. She loves you just the way you are. Deep in her heart she knows that you are an icicle of a killer. Still, she loves you.”

“I am not her father.” He said sternly.

“No, you are not. But you could be if you wanted to.”

“She is a human. Weak and useless. Why would I want that.”

After a while of silence the demon sighed and looked at her.

“My consciousness is going to kill you.”

“Why do you think that?”

The edge of his lips pulled up in an evil smirk as that light shone again in his eyes.

“He is angry.” He replied ominously.

With that, she heard the fight outside on the corridor. She heard Touga’s voice as he screamed at Sesshomaru to go back. She stood up with a jolt and ran to the door. But she found it only to be locked.

She cursed the former Lord. How was she supposed to leave when she was locked in?!

And then, she heard Sesshomarus voice. The voice came from the other side of the door.

“Go back, Sesshomaru!” Touga commanded  but she heard Sesshomarus snort. She tried to hear more but was interrupted by the beast.

“How rude of you to eavesdropping.” He said with amusement lacing his tone.

“Aw come on, be quiet. Or else I am going to be here with you forever.” She threatened him but to her surprise he smirked at her. He truly was not normal.

“You will all disappear from me”, Sesshomaru growled.

And then, all hell broke loose outside the door. Her eyes teared up and she began to cry.

“That’s not right. A family should not fight.” She whimpered.

“Why not?” the beast asked, honestly confused.

“It’s just wrong. A family protects. A family loves each other. They are always there for one. That’s for me a family.” She said and went back to the beasts side.

How was she supposed to leave Sesshomarus personal hell?

The miko wiped her tears in her kimono. Her cheeks took a faint hue of pink. Her blue eyes sparkled with the still unshed tears. Just before she had those beautiful blue eyes and now, they looked like they had a grey cloud over them. It reminded him of his prison here. Even, when he had been free back then, he had never seen the light he could follow. No one, who could show him the sun.

“Let us make a deal, Miko. Free me from my prison and I promise I will not harm anyone. But I will kill this Naraku.”

Something was fishy here. Kagome looked at him sceptically and asked him what he wanted in return. He would do two favors and she would do only one thing.

A victorious smile graced his lips and that smile got bigger when someone flew straight into the door next room.

“You.”

He whispered this one word as if trying to send the biggest ominous message. He watched as her eyes widened.

“M-Me? Why me?!”

She stuttered, she knew. Still, what was she supposed to do? He wanted her? What for?

“You said, everyone deserves to be loved. Show me! Show me your love for me! I want to feel it. I want it! I want to feel it, too! Your body. Your soul. Everything!” he said and never broke their eye contact.

He wanted to have her. Body and soul. But how could she give herself to him? She wanted to be with Inuyasha after Naraku was dealt with.

“I can offer you my friendship.” She suggested.

“Does that mean you are going to give me my pups?”

Apparently, he had a whole another idea what friendship concerned.

“No.”

“Then you know my reply.” He said and closed his eyes. “I want to be loved the way you said before. That passion, I want it.”

Kagome knew that she had no chance of getting out of here. The door was locked. Another way to get out did not exist.

She felt like she was fighting a losing battle. But she had no other chance. Damn that Touga.

“Now, you want two things from me. In return, I’ll have your promise that you won’t ever kill anyone, be it human or demon, who did nothing to you. As long as no one wants to harm you, you can not kill. This also means: no unnecessary wars!”

“I agree. I promise.” He replied as soon as she finished her sentence.

‘Quite eager, are we?’ Kagome thought with an ironic smile.

“Wait a second. How do I know the worth of your word?”

“I still have my honor, Kagome.”

How did he know her name? She never mentioned it. And then she remembered that he still had some kind of connection to his other half.

She still thought about the deal. While thinking she looked at his face and noticed his dry lips. Maybe souls got thirsty, too?

“Are you thirsty?”

His eyes widened a fraction in surprise. She asked him about such a thing?

“Yes.” He replied honestly.

This was all so new to the miko. A demons soul was so different from a human’s. It needed caring like a normal person. She looked around until her eyes fell to a mug full with water. She reached out and took it to herself. After righting it in her hand she bent slightly over him and gave him the water in small sips into his mouth.

“Enough.”

“I just thought about something. Why would your consciousness kill me? I just came with him here, did I not?”

“Let me ask you a question instead. Why do you think you can talk to me without me losing my mind?”

“No idea?” she smiled sheepishly.

“You are not very intelligent, are you? Anyway, since you are human I shall forgive you your ignorance. Listen well, my mate. This world is my world. Only I have the control here while my consciousness will lose himself in here. On the other side, I will lose my mind when I am “out.”. Do you understand?”

“So… How do I know you will keep your promise on the other side when you lose your mind?” She asked sceptically and ignored the shudder at the mention of “Mate”.

“Never fear, Mate. I shall be complete again. And we will remember everything again.” He promised.

She had no other choice but to trust him. “We have a deal, then.”

She hesitated. The noise outside the room got louder.

“The old fools are not strong enough.”

With that, she pulled the blanket completely from him and ….

Then she was beneath him with her hands pinned beside her head. He leaned forward and pressed his cheek against hers. He cuddled her first and then he moved to the center of her face, so that their noses touched each other. He cocked his head slightly to the side and kissed her lips so very slowly and softly, fearing he could break her, even though this was a soul.

The miko on the other hand was shocked. She watched his eyes as he kissed her. It was awkward, really, but she was also fascinated. His eyes showed so much. It was like a storm on the sun. Hope, desire and even love. He wanted to love. Could it be that Touga and the others sealed the wrong side of Sesshomaru?! It would seem so!

He pressed a bit more of his lips to her but she barely felt him. She felt the warmth, the soft touch, the passion and desire. This was her first, real kiss with a man. Not even Inuyasha dared to do just that. And then, suddenly, he bit her neck. Licked it slowly and returned to kiss her again.

The next loud noise outside the room interrupted their awkward kiss and he stood up with the girl in his arms.

He walked elegantly to the door and ripped it apart.

“Oh no.” she heard the ancestors moan in displeasure at the sight of the beast who now stood before his real self.

“Took you long enough!” the beast said to his consciousness who had red eyes and jagged markings.

“Who… are you?” Sesshomaru questioned the beast who in turn smirked evilly.

“I am you. I am your power, your instinct. You just forgot about me because of the seal.”

Now, the beast turned to look at Kagome who now stood behind him.

“Why did you do that, Miko” she heard Touga ask her, “If I were not already dead, I would be dead latest by now.”

A weak smile graced his lips as he began to fade away.

“Trust me, Touga-Sama. Everything will be well.” She whispered to the now empty space.

“They are going to the other side, where they belong.” The beast interrupted her.

“Now, Sesshomaru. It is time to be powerful once more. Come we will be one again, just as centuries ago. And our mate shall give us the most powerful pups.”

Kagome wanted to puke. She could only hope that Sesshomaru would forget about his promise and be grateful that he was allowed to be complete…

Both Sesshomaru’s walked at each other and then… darkness.

She was back in the darkness she had come to. Only this time, it felt lighter and warmer.

With a jolt, the miko woke from her meditation and looked wildly around. Her eyes fell on Sango who stood tiredly before her. Her barrier must have given out when she was trapped in that room.

“Meidou Zangetsuha!”

They attacked and dodged Narakus attacks. The fight was not too long. Maybe 15 minutes or so? The world of the souls was quicker than the normal life.

And after a few minutes, she realized that their side was losing. Only Inuyasha and Miroku were not enough. Sango had to help, the miko had to help. Hell, even the crippled Sesshomaru should help. The miko forgot everything in her panicked mind.

But she was drained. She had to keep herself together in order to not puke. She looked at Sesshomaru, who observed her. That small light was in his eyes and she knew that the beast was there, too.

He stood up and held one hand to her and the other rested on his Daikatana.

‘Wait a second… both hands?’ she looked at his left hand flabbergasted which held a very beautiful Katana in its sheath on his hip.

“Hn.” He intoned amused “My ability to heal has much improved, Miko. Your promise will be kept, Miko. My beast demands it and it shall be done.”

Her heart broke but he turned around as he jumped at Naraku.

While in the air he unsheathed his sword and brought it down on Narakus barrier. It wavered and cracked but held. Naraku who was shocked to the core was speechless for a moment and then laughed like a maniac.

“KAGOME, YOU STUPID GIRL! DO SOMETHING!” yelled Inuyasha.

Again, Naraku laughed like a maniac.

“You know, Inuyasha. Kagome can’t hurt me. I am using her powers to make the Shikon no Tama more powerful. And that was my wish, you see?”

And that was true. Kagome had felt when he made that wish but was not sure what exactly his wish was. She also felt drained sometimes… But she never knew…

“Is that true, Kagome!” Inuyasha asked in rage and ignored the growl coming from his half brother.

“Her soul became so powerful… wonderful food for the jewel! Of course, after it was being tainted by me.”

“I do not understand why it takes the power from Kagome.” Murmured the monk confused.

“That is simple, Miroku. The miko is the guard of this cute little thing. Of course it is going to take power from its guard.”

“Enough with this nonsense.” Sesshomaru swung again his sword at the barrier.

While he attacked, he remembered slowly everything that had happened in his childhood. And then, Sesshomaru released the acidic power of Bakusaiga.

“Oh! Sesshomaru-Sama! A new sword? Useless as Tetsusaiga?”

With that, the demon Lord jumped back and sheathed his sword with an evil smirk.

Naraku only laughed harder until he heard Inuyashas murmur of “Oh, Kami!”

The tentacles that were outside his barrier were destroyed, which was to be expected. What he did not expect, was the fact that the acid did not stay outside but continued to eat him alive. From the inside out! And now he felt the pain within his body! It was warm and painful.

He screamed in agony as he melted to the ground with groans of pain.

Kagome wanted to stop this but she had no right to. All her friends had to live through so much pain. It was their right to see his demise, even if it was barbaric.

When there was nothing left of the once evil hanyou, Sesshomaru walked to the pile of goo and took the jewel.

He turned around to his mate, whom he had marked her in his very soul, and gave her the jewel.

“Time, to return home.”

It was Inuyasha interrupted that awkward moment between the two. “We can finally be mates.”

The demon Lord growled threateningly. “You won’t touch, what is mine.”

“Keh! What are you talking about, asshole! Kagome is mine!”

“She is mine, half breed. She promised her body and soul and the deal has been made. You can do nothing without any claims on her.”

With that, he scooped the miko into his arms and leapt into the air, eager to get home and make her finally his.

But Inuyasha followed them on the ground. Allowing the two of them a final goodbye he slowed down.

“WHY Kagome?! What was so important that you would make such a deal with that bastard?!”

“Your lives.”

At her words, Inuyasha stumbled and fell. He could do nothing but watch as she was taken away by his own brother.

After a while, she looked at Sesshomarus face only to see that he was watching her. She found that light again in his eyes and it seemed that it would not go away. That light, however, was warm. Was he happy?

They did not talk one word. They just stared at each other. That was, until Kagome could no longer be silent.

“Your beast bit me.”

“He marked you as his mate.”

She furrowed her brows on confusion. In her body, she did not have any markings. So, the claim was not real?

As if he read her thoughts, he gifted her with a smirk.

“The mark is stronger than the one we could have in our bodies. You will live as long as my beast lives. He will feed your body with our power.”

She could not help but think about Tsubaki, the dark miko and shuddered.

“Do not worry. You will not end up like a woman who had to feed her body with weak demons. You will have only the best and purest form of powers; mine.”

As he landed, Kagome gasped at the darkness of his home. It held no love and actually looked like a prison. It would have been very beautiful, but it was so sad. She couldn’t help but think about Sesshomaru. He had shown to the world his soul in the form of his palace. Yet, no one had cared enough to help him.

He still held her in bridal style and walked down the long, colorless corridors. Servants bowed deeply before him, whom he did not acknowledge. His attention was only on her. Then, he stepped into a room, which she assumed was his. It was huge. It had also no color in it, except for the red and white painting on the shoji screen.

“You dislike my home. You may change it the way you like.” He suggested after he took in her disappointed look.

“Sesshomaru?”

He only looked at her, but she still continued.

“How much have you… you know… changed?”

“I did not.”

“Huh?”

He sighed softly. “I am merely complete.”

“So… you are not on a killing rampage?”

He put her down on his bed and laid down next to her. This would be the day when everything changed in his life. Now, he had a light he could follow. He no longer had to prove himself to anyone but his mate.

“No, I am the same as before.”

Kagome gulped at the closeness, the heat of his body or how small she was next to him.

“So… your beast… is now you?”

Sesshomaru leaned closer until their faces were a breath away from each other.

“He will always be here within me, talking to me or even you when I allow him out.”

“Oh.”

“Fear not, mate. You will be well taken care of. You will want for nothing.”

With that said, he kissed her. Hard.

The next day, Kagome laid naked on his chest, bearing his mating mark on her neck. She felt every muscle in her body and everything was sore. She thought about Inuyasha. She knew, she would have been much happier if it was Inuyasha who made love to her first. But it wasn’t him who introduced her into this world.

She did not want to complain. She knew he could have just raped her. But he didn’t. Instead he went slowly. At some point, he really made love to her. And at other points, he had been wild.

Still, that was still better than having him running around on a killing rampage. He wanted nothing from her, except for her love. She knew she would eventually fall in love with him.

Her hand gripped the Shikon no Tama from under the pillow.

“Make everyone happy, Shikon no Tama, and disappear forever.”

With that last task done, she snuggled closer to the warmth beneath her and closed her eyes. Yes, she would eventually fall in love with him.
