Breathe, Kagome hisses to herself. These people know not her grim circumstances, the flagitious visions that follow her- that plague her this moment. She stares intensely at the flowered pin perched in Shizuka-san’s coiled hair as the fog crouches as if it were involved in their meeting. Its neck cricks, head twitching left to right, watching an invisible insect flit about its ears.

Kagome keeps her cup at her mouth, hiding narrowed lips. She only breathes when her lungs berate her, sips her tea slowly with rigid and minute gestures in desperate hope the ghastly head doesn’t snap towards her.
