Twists in Fate by NicoRavenPen

Prompt: Dark Lord

She was so near, so close to slipping her fangs into the unsuspecting creature before her, the pounding in her head urging her onwards…

But then she was ripped away, and she gave out another inhuman cry of indignation, the screech hurting even her ears.

With a snarl she was forced against a tree by a strong hand, and a part of her listened as the wood seemed to crack, though her focus was on the wrathful being holding her captive.

Shuddering as another deep snarl rippled through her from her captor, she forced her eyes open, fixating them on a vaguely familiar face.

Angry ruby eyes met her own, jagged stripes decorating strong jaws that flexed to show her his mighty fangs.

The hunger abated slowly as her self-preservation kicked in. Or perhaps it was her reiki fighting back against the darkness, giving her a moment of clarity. She didn’t know. But she was thankful.

She gasped as her mind cleared, and she panicked, her hands grasping at the one holding her tightly.

    “Sesshomaru-sama! Please-”

“You dare to harm my son?!” he thundered, voice gravely.

Brows furrowing in confusion, she glanced to the side when she saw movement.

A dark-haired replica of the Inu before her stood from where he’d been kneeling on the ground, stepping closer, though only marginally.

“She has not harmed me, father-” he began.

“Only because this one has stopped her!” He interrupted, though his gaze never left her as he squeezed slightly in his ire.

“I am sorry!” she whined, “I could not help myself-”

“It is no excuse for your folly!” He began to squeeze tighter and she gasped.

Thankfully a small undercurrent of her reiki remained, and in a last-ditch effort she pushed it forward into his hand. He snarled at her again, though his grip slackened minutely.

“Please, I don’t want to hurt anyone, I need help Sesshomaru-sama! I don’t know what’s happening to me!” She begged, praying that he was feeling merciful that night. She knew the chances were slim, but she had to try.

“You look for mercy where none lies!

His sneer made her cringe and she knew then that her life was forfeit.

This dark lord would be her undoing, and what was worse, was that she was almost glad for it. She did not know how to fight the darkness growing in her, knew not how to control it. It was better this way.

Tears filling her eyes as her regrets swam to the surface, she nodded solemnly.

“Alright. But please, please don’t let my kit, my Shippo, find what I’ve become. Let him think I never returned. Destroy all trace of me…please?” She was begging him, she knew. And she knew she had no right. But even still, she had to try.

At her plea he stilled, the red dimming to pink hued gold.
