Twists in Fate by NicoRavenPen

Prompt: Bride

Traveling silently, his eyes took in all around him despite the dark of night, his journey monotonous and repetitive.

He’d made it many a time in his travels through these lands with his father, ensuring that all went as it should.

The wind blew harsh from the East, a gale, and with it came a new scent. One that he had not previously tested with his senses before this night.

    Intrigued, he turned.

Following his nose he came to a familiar forest, and he continued forth, going to where the scent was strongest. He took a deep pull of it into his lungs, and a strange fuzziness began to cloud his mind. Unaware of how it was clouding his judgment, he quickened his steps.

When he came to the edge, to a clearing where an old well resided, he saw what drew his attention irrevocably.

A female lay twisted onto her back, arms spread akimbo, bloodied hands clenching sporadically. He could hear her pained gasps, but it was her scent that drew him. He stopped at the edge, some sense of self-preservation stopping him though he couldn’t think enough to think why. For what could harm him…?

    But even still, he waited.

She noticed his presence immediately, her eyes piercing into him and freezing him where he stood.

She twisted, her hands finding purchase in the ground, her strange eyes never leaving him. Even when her thick curtain of midnight hair shadowed her face from him, silver flashed through the night.

She sat back upon her heels for a moment, shoulders drooping almost lazily, hands trailing upon the grass as her head tipped back. She drew in a deep, shuddering breath, eyes narrowing upon him.

He felt a tingle go down his spine when a fanged grin spread her face, and he noticed then the blood that marred her person. It spread from her mouth, down her chin, bathing her front in a blood so dark it looked black.

He realized then that he perhaps should not have sought to sate his curiosity. His father had always said that it would lead to his demise…

As if reading his thoughts, she leaned forward to crawl upon the ground towards him, and he was powerless to move away. Instead, his knees gave out and he kneeled unbidden.

Her eyes were fixed on him and he found that he could not look away, the thought didn’t even occur to him as his muddled mind drowned in her scent. It was intoxicating…

She was intoxicating; a dark, bloody, lovely wraith. A bride of the night. If only he’d realized it sooner.

And then she was before him, kneeling as well as she reached blood tinged hands to cup the line of his jaws delicately.

His lashes fluttered as her scent overwhelmed his senses, fighting to keep his eyes open. She crooned to him, almost sweetly, as her thumbs brushed along the dual stripes on his cheeks.

He could clearly see her features then, and in the back of his mind he thought her quite pretty, despite the blood marring her.

She took in a deep breath, eyes closing again as her nose tilted upwards once more, and her crooning deepened as she neared. Her hands tilted his head and he was powerless to stop her, watching fuzzily as her mouth spread, baring curved fangs…

O.o.O.o.O

A/N: I know, I'm evil...
