Later, after their passion had once more been fully spent, Kagome said the words no male ever wants to hear...

“Sesshomaru, we need to talk, my koishii.” She began.

“What of, mate?” Sesshomaru questioned, though he knew this was coming.

And he himself was curious of certain changes within the household.

“You've seen how the Citadel shines I am sure.” As she spoke, Kagome rose pacing to the window.

A wave of remembered pain flaring through her aura.

The pain hit Sesshomaru first, “Hai, koi...” Though the words sounded uncertain even to his own ears.

The Daiyoukai was unsure where this was going.

“Have you asked yourself why, Sesshomaru?” she went on.

“Or why Keiji is now my vibrantly healthy Guardian...?” Kagome finished, quietly.

His mate's words confirmed Sesshomaru's suspicions as to Keiji's place to the left of Kagome in the Main Hall. To be a Guardian was a sacred duty. Standing as a last line of defense for an Inu Lord's mate should he be otherwise engaged or away. And should the Lord fall it was then the Lady's right to take her Guardian as a mate should she so choose.

Though Sesshomaru knew neither Kagome nor Keiji would ever take his role that far. Her heart was his and the Daiyoukai knew it. Yet, still...

“How did such come to pass, maito?” Sesshomaru finally asked.

“In your frustration, anger, and fear before you left, koi... You forgot some very important things about me.” Kagome began.

“I am first and foremost the Shikon Miko and a healer.” “The one who brought an end to the scourge, Naraku...” she went on. And I am from the future. Kagome finished, somewhat heatedly.

Here, Kagome paused for breath, holding up a hand to forestall Sesshomaru's next words.

“You tore into my heart that last day, dismissing me as naught more than a mere woman...”

Kagome felt a sting, smacking Myouga away from her. “Lay down with dogs, wake up with fleas..." Kagome quipped.
