Proverbial Challenge, 2014

Prompt: As soon as man is born, he begins to die.

Week: September 20, 2014

As Sesshomaru and Kagome each came back to themselves... Both having been lost in their mutual recollection of that singular event, Kagome spoke.

“It was shortly after I made that quip, that I heard the richness of your laughter for the first time, maito...” She began.

“As floored as I was; I knew then we would make it through.” Kagome continued.

“That at the end of the day, as long as we had honesty, love, and laughter...” Here she paused for a breath, turning her left hand up and intertwining it with Sesshomaru's.

“And never went to bed angry, then nothing and “no one” could break us.” Kagome finished.

Sesshomaru gave her a gentle squeeze as the pup within Kagome's womb settled into sleep.

“Do you recall my introduction to the Council of Lords, “my Taisho”...” Kagome said.

It wasn't really a question and Sesshomaru heard the playfulness in her tone.

“I am reminded of another proverb.” She mused.

Flashback

“As soon as “man” is born, he begins to die.” the Southern Lord began.

“She will fade away into nothing, Sesshomaru will forget her.” He continued.

Little knowing, the woman he spoke of was right behind him.

Kagome spoke with a voice that had gone to frost. Sharp, strong, powerful...

“You seem to forget, I am no ordinary woman.”

“I am the “Shikon no Miko” Kagome began, striding with purpose toward Yamanari and his companion.

“The “Alpha Bitch” of the Western Inu Clans.” she went on.

“And my mate is eldest son of the late, great, “Inu no Taisho”. Kagome finished with a regal sniff.

Leaving the two snide fools, sputtering. Stunned into a shocked and heavy silence.

Sesshomaru could not have been more proud of his Kagome.
