Temper Tantrums of an Inuyoukai by UnknownRandomness

The Second Attempt

Prompt: Ambition

Word Count: 525

Looking at Rin's eager face, Kagome made her second attempt to get the daiyoukai to recognise her existence (without looking like he was about to brutally murder her).

Their group had stopped for the night and she had decided that perhaps she could get Sesshoumaru to open up if she approached him bearing gifts- in this case, green tea. The young girl had assured the miko that the Western Lord adored tea, especially tea of the green variety, and would often "drop his guard" when presented with a cup. Kagome wasn't quite sure what that meant in this stoic demon's case, but since Rin had seemed so very positive about it, she would give it a try.

It had felt like an eternity had passed waiting for the water to boil, and she had been shooting inquisitive glances at the statuesque demon the whole time, soaking in his ethereal beauty and fine, yet strong features. Why did such a gorgeous male have such a rubbish personality? It seemed like a terrible waste. But that was what she was (hopefully) going to change- with Rin's help, together they would reform Sesshoumaru into the perfect catch!

Pouring the bubbling liquid into a ceramic cup, Kagome smiled as the calming scent wafted through her nostrils. It wasn't surprising that the demon became more sociable after a drink of this tea- it was so very relaxing.

With a short mental prayer, the raven-haired woman stood with the beverage and made her way to the standing form of the inu, his amber eyes affixed on something below their hilltop campsite. Reaching his side, Kagome coughed quietly, trying to catch his attention. When he still remained stationary, she decided to speak anyway- he didn't need to be looking at her to listen, right?

"Sesshoumaru-sama, would you care for some green tea?"

A few seconds of absolute silence passed. Kagome shot a nervous glance at her small companion seated by the campfire, but the girl just made a 'thumbs-up' sign, a huge grin on her little face. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, the miko looked back at the demon and almost shrieked to see that he had closed the gap between them, his eyes fixed intently on her face.

Not breathing, for fear that she should somehow offend him and find her shoulders suddenly missing her head, Kagome stared back at the youkai, shaking arms causing the tea to slosh around inside the cup.

A few more seconds of this unbearable tension passed, before Sesshoumaru turned away, not deigning to answer her. Releasing her breath slowly, the miko returned to the fire, gulping down the tea as she went; she needed it to calm her racing heart! Rin patted her back encouragingly as both looked at the demon's straight back. He really was the living definition of unapproachable.

But then again, perhaps she had been just a little too ambitious. They would need to aim for a lower initial goal, otherwise their efforts would come to naught. But what was lower than gaining his attention in a positive manner?

Kagome gasped before patting Rin's shoulder excitedly- she had an idea.
