“Can we get it?”

“No...”

“Can we get it?”

“NO.”

If he asked her about that ugly sweater one more time she was going to flip. It had several multicolored stripes all across it in various widths. Poinsettias, candy canes, Santa hats, reindeers, ribbons and presents all formed one big mess on its front. And to make matters worse he wanted her to get them a matching pair.

The window browsing halted when their savior suddenly returned.

Kagome prayed he came back with good news. “And the verdict is?”

“No.” Sesshomaru sighed and shook his head. “Not a single room available from any of the eighteen motels in town.”

“Damn.” She scratched her head. “It can’t be helped I guess. Oh well.”

Shippo ran to her side. “We can’t just give up now.”

“Kid, c'mon. Be reasonable. There’s nowhere for us to stay.”

“There’s....always uncle Inuyasha.” Rin nearly flinched at the adults’ hard stares. “He’s looking for someone to rent out space to and you both seem like really nice people.”

Kagome’s nose wrinkled. “Is he a dog person?”

“We’ll take it!” Shippo cheered.

They were told the space would be ready for them in an hour. In the meantime they stopped to get food. The children sat the diner’s table happily enjoying a frosted treat. Their parents stood in line waiting to pay for their party’s meals.

“So what do you think?” Rin asked.

Shippo popped another piece in his mouth. “This is the best cake ever!”

“Next time try it with some peanut butter. That makes it taste especially good.”  She wiped her hands with a napkin. “So! Are you guys excited for the holiday?”

“Well I am, of course. But Kagome’s such a wet blanket.”

Rin tilted her head and frowned. “What? Does she not like Christmas?”

“It’s not exactly her favorite season, but I plan on changing that this year for sure.”

“Hm. Sounds like fun. Let me know if I can help.”
