Shippo yawned himself awake. “Where are we?”

“Pulled over.”

Panic immediately began to set in. “What did you do!?”

“Nothing. Relax.” Kagome ruffled his red head. “Why do you always fear for the worst?”

“...because you’re Kagome.”

“Yeah, fair enough.” She sat back in her seat and hummed a small tune of her own.

Shippo waited patiently for her to shift the car into gear. “So…when are we leaving?”

“As soon as the E turns back into F.”

They were on their way home from Tunnels. The small family owned shop sold Christmas décor.

An ornamental wreath rested in the little girl’s lap. It was a large custom made garland full of bright poinsettias, orange polka dot ribbons, and tiny silver dog bones. “This is this prettiest one yet,” she cheered.

Her father hummed his approval. The minivan turned down the street when he spotted them arguing along its edge. Leaned against an old looking sports car was a young woman in a long tattered trench coat she wore open.  The kid that was with her saw him and waved his arms over his head. Rin also attacked him with baby doll eyes. The next thing Sesshomaru knew, he was pulled over alongside the car.

The woman regarded him with suspicious eyes. “We don’t need any help,” she growled.

The boy quickly intercepted. “Don’t listen to her, she’s crazy. The entire engine’s completely blown, and the secondary gas reserve’s completely depleted.”

“Geez, kid,” the woman sneered. “Way to throw out all of our business.”

“This is the first person to stop in hours!”

Sesshomaru watched them start bickering again before coming to a decision. The car would have to be told towed. In the meantime, he offered them a ride.

“No way in hell I’m getting in a minivan,” the woman blurted. A chilling gust suddenly blew. “So where do I sit?”
