"Then it's your lose." He hung up his phone when the clerk started ringing up his items.

It had taken him a while to find them, but Sesshomaru finally had what he needed. The golden orange cloth with silver trimming and eggshell satin would provide the perfect finishing touches for one of Rin’s many gifts.

The clerk smiled and waved. “Thank you, sir. Come again.”

Sesshomaru nodded and exited the store. He found Rin was waiting for him at the van; a hot cup of chocolate rested in her gloves. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary except her guardian appeared to be missing. He never leaves her unattended. Sesshomaru sat the bag in the trunk. “Where’s Jaken?”

“I don’t know,” Rin shrugged. “He just took off maybe a second ago.”

Earlier that day...

The man sprinted for his life. A woman and child chased him on a red motorcycle. He thought he could lose them on the crowded sidewalk, but she continued pursuing him at will. “Somebody help! This bitch is crazy!”

“You know, you’re really starting to piss me off.” Kagome snatched up a large plastic elf and chucked it at the man’s head. It grazed him in the back. He lost his balance and hit the ground. Desperate, he tried crawling away but her foot made contact with his ribs. “That’s for making me waste gas. It’s damn near ten dollars a gallon you prick.” She kicked him hard again and crouched down before him. “Now I’m going to ask you a question and you’re going to give me an answer. Got it?”

“Fuck you,” he spat in her face. The sound of a gun’s click came from behind. Slowly he turned his head and came face-to-face with a pistol.

Shippo pressed the barrel into the man’s forehead. “Look pal, I’ve got about a billion things to do today and messing with you ain’t one of them. Tell her what she wants to know and my thumb won’t accidently pull the trigger.”

He shakily shook his head and turned back to face the woman. Amusement danced in her eyes. “W-what do you want?” he cringed.

“You’re wearing one his ribbons,” she flicked the purple sash tied to his arm. “Now tell me where M is.” Her phone started to ring. Snowy flashed across the screen. Kagome paused and looked back at her captive. “Hang on for sec, will you?” The man nodded. She walked away. Her thumb pressed ‘accept’ on the keypad. “I haven’t heard from you in days.”

“That’s because I’ve been waiting on your call.”

“Yeah well, men call me; not the other way around.”

“Sure. Are you busy?”

“Maybe. Why?”

“Inuyasha says you guys are downtown.  I was thinking maybe we could all meet. Rin has been requesting to see your son.”

Kagome huffed and crossed her arms. “And what do I get out of this?”

“Only one way to find out. We’ll see you both at six.”

“And if I don’t show?”

“Then it’s your loss.” He hung up.

Kagome glared at the phone and shoved it back in her pocket.

Shippo approached her with a yawn. “Are you done yet?”

“Where’s the guy?!”

“He left like five minutes ago.  You know you can only scare someone with imaginary bullets for so long.”

“Shit… oh well. I’ll just catch him again some other time. He’s not going anywhere anytime soon anyways.” She looked down at her watch. “Besides, we’ve got about an hour left to kill before meeting up with your new girlfriend and her dad.”

Shippo’s eyes lit up. “Oh, cool! Where at?”

Kagome thought for a moment and cursed.

The man stumbled down the street. He thought he was finally in the clear. On the verge of making a phone call a big German Shepherd suddenly came down on him. “Oh come on! What the hell!?” He did his best to fend the dog off. Sharp teeth found his shoulder and he yelled out loud in pain. “Oh my god, I’m gonna die!”

“Jaken, heel.”

The dog released him. A man with white hair suddenly appeared. Ebony shades covered his eyes.

“W-who are you?” the man trembled.

“Detective Yukimura of the Severance police...and you must be one of Onigumo’s vermin.”
