Visit

“Kagome-chan, you have a visitor.”

Smiling, the miko put down her broom and bemusedly followed Kaede around the back of their small shrine to see who had come specifically for her. Normally, Hojo was the only person to visit her here and Kaede always let him through to the courtyard, so it couldn’t be him. Who would want to see her?

As they reached the front, a flash of silver caught her eyes before a small and distinctive form came into view. The youkai turned from surveying the view below to look at her and his familiar golden eyes caused her to gasp. It was that kid! The one who broke her arm four months ago! Oh gosh, what was his name? She knew it; it was a really unusual name that sounded really grim… Aha! She got it!

“Sesshoumaru-san! How nice to see you again. Have you come to visit our shrine?” Kagome roared triumphantly in her mind; she had remembered his name without having to be reminded!

“Hardly. This Sesshoumaru does not follow the Shinto religion. I have come to inquire after you actually. How is your arm?”

“It’s healed now, thanks to you. I really should repay you for paying the hospital fee. It’s not right for a full-grown woman with an income to accept that sort of money from a child.”

The inu frowned, but before he could reply, the young woman remembered that she had yet to introduce her young friend to her boss.

“Ah, Kaede-sensei, this is Sesshoumaru-san, the boy who took me to the hospital all those months ago to get my arm fixed.” ‘After he broke it’ she added silently in her mind.

“Ah, so this is the infamous Sesshoumaru-san with the adorable face! Pleased to make your acquaintance, my name is Kaede, I am the head priestess at this shrine and I have heard a lot about you, young master. Thank you for all your help with Kagome. She may be an adult but she is still a child at heart and I am grateful that you were so responsible when she injured herself.”

The youkai smiled and Kagome blinked, having never seen such a polite expression on the kid’s face before. He normally looked so surly – like he’d just bitten into a lemon.

“It was no problem at all Kaede-san. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance also. Thank you very much for letting me interrupt her duties, I shan’t be too long.”

“Not at all, in fact, I am sure she could use a break, she has been out here for several hours now.”

Kagome chose that moment to butt in on this conversation that was growing really odd really quickly.

“Erm, please don’t talk about me like I’m not right here, thanks. Okay, the introductions have been made; thank you Kaede-sensei.”

The older woman took the hint and left after excusing herself, a secretive smile on her weathered face. Looking after her retreating figure, the raven-haired woman frowned. How come the brat was so nice and chummy with her boss but a rude little tyke when he was with her?

As if to prove her point, Sesshoumaru’s polite smile instantly disappeared to be replaced with a look that could only be described as boredom.

“Adorable?”

Kagome winced at his acidic tone.

“Haha, I didn’t really mean it, I just said it in passing one day and she latched onto it, so don’t take it to hea-“

“This Sesshoumaru is not adorable and you would do well to remember as such, klutz.”

A frown sketched itself onto the miko’s features. This was the first time they had seen each other in months and he was still insulting her over something that had just been pure chance? Dismissing his rude words, she decided to be forthright with her visitor.

“Okay, Sesshoumaru-san. I am incredibly grateful to you for all that you have done for me, including taking the time today to come and see how I was doing; it was incredibly nice of you. And to show my gratitude, I would like to treat you to a meal and a movie, or a day at a museum or perhaps an amusement park, because it isn’t right that I haven’t done anything to repay your kindness… Even though it was your fault I was hurt in the first place.”

During her speech, one of his eyebrows had raised into an indescribably irritating expression of pure condescension. A few seconds of tense silence followed before the child responded haughtily,

“As a matter of fact, it was your actions that led to your injury, Baka-gome, so do not try and shoulder the blame onto this one. However, your offer does show that you have some manners at least. Although I must admit your selection of activities is appallingly childish; this Sesshoumaru would much rather partake in a more civilized activity. I shall come to pick you up the day after tomorrow at seven – wear something nice.”

And with that, he turned and began to walk down the steps, hair swishing over his pointed ears. Kagome watched him go, completely dumbfounded, until he climbed into a large car that had been waiting for him at the bottom of the steps and it drove away.

The woman blinked as if woken from a trance. The nerve of some people! Why that obstinate, stuck-up, rude, bratty, selfish little twat! He thought he could order her around did he?! And calling her childish?! HE WAS THE KID IN THIS EQUATION! JUST WHO DID HE THINK HE WAS?! THE EMPEROR?! With a start, Kagome realized that actually, she didn’t know who he was really. Perhaps he was related to the emperor…?

Shaking her head, she quickly dismissed that thought. There was no way someone that infuriating could be from such an important family.
