Ten Days Left

A/N: Prompt: Candles

At the banquet hall, Kagome had just realized how many days she had till the party- a mere fifteen.  Factor in the four days that she and the workers had off- four, and that left her with ten days to finish decorations.  At the moment, decorations had been sorted, trees were put up, and that was it.  She still had to talk to caterers (a job for tomorrow), figure out the schema for the tables, and lights- oh god the lights!

“Yo boss!” Kagome turned to the young man who addressed her- Sano.

“Yes?”  She asked as she looked at the trees.  All four of them working together had only gotten three fixed!  Three- and it was already two in the afternoon.

“Are you okay?  Sango-san says that you should take a break- for lunch.”  Kagome’s stomach grumbled and she berated it.  There was still so much to be done and she couldn’t afford a lunch break.  There was something that she had known they were missing- some decoration- and until she found it (and got a schedule written on paper- tentative or set in stone) she was not going to rest.

“Candles!”  The sudden shout caused all heads to turn in her direction but she ignored them and instead pulled out her cellphone.  Who did she call have to call again?  She couldn’t remember and it was frustrating her.

“Are you talking about the ones you asked me to buy this weekend?”  Sango asked coming up to her friend and sparing poor Sano from Kagome’s harried presence.

“Red and white ones- I asked you to buy them?”  Kagome was confused- she didn’t remember giving those instructions to Sango.

“Yes.”  Sango stated shaking her head at her friend.  “Look, your lunch, which your colleague bought for you is right there.  It’s probably freezing though so I’d ask someone to warm it up for you, try the reception, and once you finish it you can come back here.  Seriously, take a chill pill or I will force one on you and tell Kaede-san about this.”

Kagome’s eyes widened and she shook her head pleadingly at Sango’s last few words.  Her manager couldn’t know about this.  If Kaede ever heard how unprofessional she had been (that thought made her wince) then she might as well kiss that promotion of hers goodbye.  And she was really looking forward to it too.

“I’ll go eat.”  She promised, watching Sano and Satoshi- the other worker- start work on the fourth tree.  “I’m sorry and I promise to be better for the rest of the day.”

"Good- now go.” Sango thrust lunch into her hands and Kagome took it with a wave as she left.
