Eight Celestial Spheres by Fluffy
Prologue

Also, I am in college and very busy quite often. I am going to start re-writing any old stories of mine, and I will try to update at least one of them once a week. Please bear with me. I get writers block easily and like I said, I'm busy in college. Please review!

In the beginning there was nothing but the gods.
The gods brought the light, which would be called day, and the dark, which would be called night. The gods brought the world together, filling it with water and land which would be suitable for any and all of their creations. The gods brought the fields of grass and flowers, and the forests full of large trees that shaded the ground beneath them from the daylight and made the ground darker during the night. And for some time, this was all the earth was.
The gods, proud of their creation but ultimately bored of the monotony of it, created small creatures. To inhabit the land, there would be insects of many kinds, and small creatures to feast from them. To inhabit the sea, there would be water-breathing creatures, tiny ones to feed from the oceanic plants, and slightly larger ones to feed on them. To inhabit the sky, there would be winged creatures that would eat from the land and the sea. And for some time, this was all the earth was.
The gods then, once again proud of the world they had formed but could not visit, created a creature which would take on a form similar to the gods themselves and would also have an animal form to interact with the world around them. The gods decided there would be a breed of this creature for every animal and insect alike on the planet, and this creature would be called a demon.
The first demon they created came from a silver dog; this would become the dog demon race. The animal form came first, and he was so large it could reach the skies. He was covered in silver fur, with his eyes a majestic purple. He had wide, lank ears, which would not serve him in his hearing in this form. He contained large, white, sharp teeth, which would be suitable for eating large game.
The god-like form came second. The demon took on an upright form, standing on two legs with arms falling down each side. His figure was lean, but muscular, and his skin was pale as the moonlight. There was no fur to speak of on his body apart from the long flow of silver tumbling down his back from the top of his head, and the tuft of fur the same colour elegantly surrounding his obvious male genitalia. His eyes were a deep honeyed gold, and his lids were shaded by thin red lines. The same lines were etched as pairs on both sides of his angular face, both of his delicately shaped wrists, both of his strong ankles, and on either hip, pointing downward to his patch of silver fur. His ears, now small and pointed at the highest tip, served him well now in his hearing, and he would be able to hear even the slightest sound from many distances away.
A demon was made of every type of insect and animal, whether on land or sea or sky. And for some time, this was all the earth was.
The gods were pleased with their creations for some time, and watched as their creations roamed the earth in relative peace. After some time, however, the demons began to clash, and the gods thought it best to intervene.
The small area of land these creatures occupied was divided into eight regions: Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Chogoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu-Okinawa. It was decided that these eight regions would be given to four ruling families of demons.
In the north, a family of swans was given the Hokkaido region to preside over. To represent their royal family, the bloodline sported a light blue 7-pointed star on their brow. This was passed down to all females in the royal family, and the males were not left with such a mark. The first born female would be the heir to the throne. The northern region of Hokkaido contained mostly bird-type demons.
In the east, a family of large cats was given the Tohoku and Kanto regions. Representing the royal bloodline for the eastern region was a mid-sized golden dot to represent the rising sun. This was passed down to all children born to the royal family, but only the first born male would be allowed to take the throne. The eastern region consisted of mostly cat demons.
In the west, a family of large dogs was given the Chubu, Kinki, and Chogoku regions. For the rising of the moon in the west, the dog demons were given a blue crescent moon to adorn their brow, reserved only for the ruling and heirs in the family. In the western region, dog demons ruled and claimed their lands proudly.
In the south, a family of dragons was given the remaining Shikoku and Kyushu-Okinawa regions. They were given a single, blood red, vertical line in the center of their forehead. This was passed down to all children of the royal family, and was not reserved for heirs only. The heir for the dragon family would be the first-born child. The southern region housed many reptilian-type demons.
For the demons of the oceans and seas, their ruling families lived underwater, and rarely interacted with the land demons.
With this, there was once again peace in the lands. And for some time, this was all the earth was.
Eventually, as time wore on, the gods decided they would introduce new creatures which only had the one god-like form, and could not interact directly with the nature around them like demons could.
Dull and not of the intelligence like the creations before them, these creatures were called humans. Loved by their creators, the demons detested their low intelligence and inability to treat the land the demons loved carefully. The humans had very short lifespans, unlike demons which could live for an unnamable amount of time. To make up for this flaw, however, the female humans would be able to conceive at least once a year (with 12 chances during the year), where the demons would be able to conceive once every 10 years. Humans could only birth up to 3 children at a time, but certain demons often had groups of at least 3 children per conception.
Feeling the gods were unfair in their creation of the human race, demons often hunted humans for sport, only leaving enough numbers each time to continue the race without too much of a problem.
And for some time, this was all the earth was.
With the constant decimation of their beloved human race, the gods were becoming angry at the demons. Determined to once more create balance, the gods created a special type of human, which could live a longer lifetime than mortal humans, and which would be allowed to battle demons to keep peace. These special humans were called monks, and mikos. Their power, if used correctly, could not only harm demons (and even kill them), but could also heal humans. These special humans were revered by mortals, and were hated by the demons.
And for a time there was balance. And for some time, this was all the earth was.
When the gods looked back on their creation, they saw something unexpected. Some demons were joining with monks and mikos and attempting interspecies relations. Often, this ended with the destruction of one or both parties, and no children could be begotten with the clash of powers. These couples would be heard often calling on the gods to bless their union. Unable to keep up with the requests of their beings, the gods completed one last creation, which would answer the prayers of the creations on earth.
The gods created the Eight Celestial Spheres, in which one demi-god would be assigned to a region to answer any coming prayers from interspecies couples. Eight of the strongest gods each laid with either a human, miko/monk, or a demon. A demi-demon was created for the Hokkaido region, a demi-human for the Tohoku, a demi-miko for the Kanto region, a demi-demon for the Chubu region, a demi-human for the Kinki region, a demi-miko for the Chogoku region, a demi-demon for the Shikoku region, and a demi-monk for the Kyushu-Okinawa region. Together these eight demi-gods would answer prayers of the land through strong consideration of each request made to them.
And that was all the gods created.
