Kagome gasped, the hairs on every inch of her body standing erect as her teeth and bones began to ache, eyes itching, throat burning. Yoki rolled over the shard-hunters in powerful waves, matching the pulsing heart of the giant canine ahead of them. It had been years since the woman had first seen Sesshoumaru transform into his true form, and it terrified her.

His crimson eyes rolled back in his head as the massive oni tore through one of his ears, warm blood rainging down on them, threatening to choke them as they fled. The inuyoukai was on his own for this fight; the creature that had been called forth from darkness was too big, too strong for any of their attacks to affect it in the slightest. Inuyasha quickly conceded defeat, disgusted by himself, but understanding that they were all in great danger if they remained.

With a growl that was half a scream, Sesshoumaru lunged back at his opponent, jaws clamping down around its left shoulder as he barreled into its torso and with a yell of surprise, the oni fell backwards.

For a moment, the two giants seemed suspended in air, but the shadows they cast across the forest grew smaller and smaller until they crashed back down to the ground, the impact rocking the land beneath the group's feet.

"Come on Kagome! We have to go now!" Inuyasha's muffled shout drew her attention away from the gory scene in front of her; golden eyes met hers and she flinched. He was worried.

Grabbing the proffered hand, the miko was quickly slung across her friends' back, and then they were racing away from the fray. Kirara ran through the sky with her passengers as though the very hounds of hell were on her tails. Three sets of horrified eyes met hers, but she was the only one to look back at the source of her awesome nightmares and pray that Inuyasha wasn't about to become an only child.
