They watched, shocked, as the small child who was not a really a child but a void, cried. Tears like liquid diamonds danced along her porcelain shell, fingers as delicate as seedlings grasped the remains, eyes that had been previously blank grey slates seemed to shine like the surface of the pock-marked moon high above their heads. The change was as ethereal and captivating as if a Kami had landed amongst them, but they could not rejoice in it... Because it was caused by utter sorrow.

Kanna's grief speared through the shard-hunters like a knife, but one far sharper than any corporeal blade. It was the twisting, iron-hot yet simultaneously ice-cold knife of guilt.

Sesshoumaru had killed Kagura. She had- not of her own free will- laid down her life in order to save Naraku from their combined power. The spider-hanyou had escaped, heavily injured, leaving his slave to die in his stead. And die she had, her silent companion immediately abandoning resistance in order to be at her side.

Who would have thought that Kanna could feel grief? Could care? She had abruptly changed from an it to her. Her friend had been murdered, her carer had been killed in cold blood and she now cried in front of them. Her voice emerged from her throat- not the quiet and measured words that had rarely been spoken, but a noise, an unintelligeble sound that was extraordinarily doleful, forcing the knives of guilt deeper into the watcher's hearts.

Would Naraku return for her? Was she of any use to him now? Would she want to take revenge on them? Was she their responsibility?

Questions whirled silently in between her agonized sobs, creating a cloud of uncertainty.

What should they do?
