I Couldn't Save You

A/N: Please review guys! I don't know if you like this series or hate it with a fiery passion and that is making me nervous. That being said, this chapter didn't come out the way I was aiming it to.

Sesshoumaru roared his frustration to the sky, enraged that with all his strength, he couldn't reach the woman he loved when she needed him. He had never felt that he was lacking in anything until this point in time, when his greatest strength became his ultimate weakness. 

The perverse miko laughed at him, her enjoyment at his downfall evident. She gripped Kagome's wan face in her bony hands, forcing the drained young woman to see the demon she loved scream for her as glistening tears escaped from his golden eyes. 

The inuyoukai lashed at the barrier with his yoki, willing it to break, but it held fast as if mocking his efforts. Striking with all of his blades yielded the same result, and if he lashed out with his claws, he was burned. The sheer enormity of the holy energy restraining him belonged to Kagome, channeled through the dark priestess into this invisible wall which prevented him from saving the dying female.

She had been poisoned, with what he did not know, but what he did know was that she would be dead in minutes, her life force fading before his very eyes. Inuyasha had been rendered useless the day before- a coordinated attack by this filth and Naraku had ensured that every tendon in both his arms were severed. Tessaiga would not be breaking this barrier.

It would fall when Kagome died. And then he would obliterate the evil miko without mercy. She would experience the wrath of the Kami of Vengeance a hundred-fold before he slowly removed her from this world, inch by precious inch. Those who ruined what was his would know the true meaning of fear.

"Se...shouma..." The Western Lord's eyes snapped to his love's gaunt face. A pained but loving smile was offered to him as her blue eyes dimmed, the soul he had held dear above all else, the life which had captivated him, given him reason to exist, faded.

Abruptly, the holy shield dissipated, no longer sustained by Kagome's power. The dark miko had a moment to register complete and utter terror, before the hatred of a Lord swarmed her.
