Tiredness Can Cause Accidents

A/N: I know this chapter is vague and I know its random, but hey, why not? XD I hope you enjoy and please review.

Prompt: Bivouac - An encampment for the night; especially under little or no shelter.

Word Count: 314

They ran as quickly as they could, fleeing from Edo as if the hounds of hell were on their trail. No matter how quickly they travelled or which direction they took, it would always be behind them. This enemy followed them tirelessly, growing inexorably closer when they stopped to rest and arriving amongst them when they least expected it.

None of them knew what it was, but they knew it had a malevolent purpose and it aimed only for them. It was terrifying, being the target of an invincible creature.

Inuyasha scowled at his haggard companions, yet refrained from shouting at them, knowing they were too exhausted and undernourished to take another step. The sun had set hours ago but they had continued on through the dark. Shippo had long since fainted and Kagome's eyes fluttered as her knees shook. They couldn't go on like this, but on the other hand, they couldn't stop! There was no way out of this situation and it was killing him. How could he protect his own when he couldn't even save his own skin?

The hanyou blinked as Kagome fell to the ground with a thud, unconscious before she even came into contact with the rough path. Miroku staggered under Sango's weight, and they too went careering to the hard ground. Inuyasha waited for them to pick themselves up and drag themselves over to the treeline, but they didn't. Traipsing over with a groan, Inuyasha stared blankly at the pile of resting bodies before flopping down to join them. The thing following them wouldn't even have to look to find them, what with their encampment being in the middle of the road.

He had to rest, but only for a little while, they could only rest for a little while because it would catch up to them, it would catch up and then they would all die...
