Chapter 5: Apparition

“So we meet again, Kagome.”

“Kikyou… You’re not… Please tell me you weren’t resurrected again!”

The former guardian of the Jewel smiled, pale lips quirked slightly. She appeared as she had in life, adorned in priestess garbs and all. “Worry not. I am on this plane for visiting purposes only.”

Kagome nearly breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank goodness! I really didn’t think the gods would put us through that a second time!”

“I, too, agree,” the transparent woman replied. “Once was more than enough.”

“So,” Kagome stated. “Are you here to see Inuyasha then? He said something about going on patrol before the festivities start.”

Kikyou shook her head. “I will not bother him now that he has finally moved on. He deserves a full, happy life–one without regrets and the painful reminders of the future we did not have. I only wanted confirmation from you that he is well.”

“Inuyasha’s the same as ever, honestly. But I think with Naraku gone, he’s not as stressed out anymore.”

“I see… Have you two arranged a mating yet?”

Kagome blinked. “For whom? Us?” she asked incredulously. “We’re close, but our relationship’s not like that. We’re both comfortable with being just friends.”

“This I know. Inuyasha is not the one I speak of, however.”

“Then what are you saying? I don’t like it when you guys talk in riddles,” Kagome grumbled, crossing her arms with a pout.

A mysterious glint entered the female ghost’s eyes as well as a sprinkle of amusement. “You will know soon enough. Take care, Kagome.”

“H-hey! Wait!” A slender hand reached out toward the spot where Kikyou had once stood, before dropping down to its owner’s side. “Jeez, I didn’t expect her to just disappear like that… But that’s always been Kikyou’s style, I guess. At least she seemed okay.”

With a deep sigh, Kagome ran her fingers through her hair and turned when a familiar brush of youki probed her senses.

“I’ll be right there, Sesshoumaru-sama!”
