Chapter 11: Eerie

What brings you to my humble abode again, `Oniisan’?” Kagome asked teasingly, turning her back on the male in order to fetch them some tea. It was becoming late in the evening, but she was sure the children would be fine in the village since the holiday celebrations were still going on outside.

This one abhors that title, miko.”

Kagome shot a quick smile at the disgruntled Lord, who was still standing at the entrance of her hut and regarding her with glowing amber orbs. It was almost eerie the way in which he stared at her, but she shook off the feeling and went on with her current task.

Inuyasha and I might not be romantically involved anymore, but I hope you don’t mind that I still consider you as family, Sesshoumaru-sama.”

His response was immediate and sharp. “You are not my sister.”

Kagome’s hands stilled around the teacups before she set them down on the low, wooden table and reached for her kettle. “Oh…” she murmured lamely, filling it with water. “I won’t address you like that anymore then.”

The passing moments were awkward and tense. Sesshoumaru remained near the doorway as the current subject of his observations tried very hard not to fidget under his gaze. While she waited for the water to boil over the hearth in the floor, her fingers picked at the sleeves of her haori, the firm material soothing her nerves. She had changed back into her priestess attire after Sesshoumaru’s last impromptu visit.

She was so focused on counting the woven, white threads that she didn’t notice his sudden presence at her back. Only when his large hand covered hers did she yelp in surprise and bump into him, earning a strong arm around her waist.

Sesshou–” Where did his armor go?

He lowered his head and nosed her hair, pressing closer. “This one only wants to hear his name on your lips.”

Kagome’s cheeks burned. “You said that I… Um…” she mumbled. “I’m confused.”
