My Soul to Steal by Ai Roku

In the Dark

Disclaimer: I do not own inuyasha!

Prompt: Eerie

A/N: This story is a WIP and will be a bit slow to develope and quite frankly I'm no Stephen King; so while I hope you'll find some creepiness to my tale I highly doubt you'll be terrified. There will be dark themes but again it most certainly won't be the darkest story on dokuga, I'm truly sorry if I've dissappointed anyone.

Due to the sudden death of my father I am going to be taking a break from writing for a while. I'll post what chapters I have tonight but afterwards updates will be sporadic to non existant for a while, revisions and edits will most likely be done at a later date. I'm sorry for the inconveinence and I ask for you to please bear with me at this time, thank you for your continued support. -Ai

Petrified, Kagome stands frozen in place, eyes wide, staring sightlessly into the dark abyss to which she was now confined.

The previously deafening cacophony had been replaced by a tense silence, only disturbed by the sound of her-own labored breathing.

It is this that finally penetrates her panicked mind, and she realizes that her chest is no longer being constricted. She regains some of her rationality with this realization and begins to take in deep breaths to calm herself.

While the constriction and the phantom wind seem to have ceased the cold remained, sinking through her skin and into her very bones, and for a moment she had the uneasy feeling that she’d never feel warm again. Dread began pooling in the pit of her stomach, but she refused to succumb to her panic again.

Attempting to reign in her imagination Kagome slowly turns around, away from the main door that had just slammed in her face.

Forcing herself to be proactive she cautiously moves forward, deeper into the unrelenting darkness. ‘If I can just make it to the side door I can get out of here!’ She refused to consider the possibility that it too may be locked.

Without the exit sign to guide her she had only a vague idea of the direction she needed to head in, so she stretched out her hands hoping to make contact with the desk she had been near when all this insanity started.

However the longer she blindly groped around in the darkness the more frightened she became. After steadily moving forward with her hands out stretched and searching Kagome knew she should have encountered the doctor’s desk, the examination table, or at the very least a wall.

But instead she had found nothing but empty air, and it simply didn’t make sense!

‘Unless,’ she thought to herself, ‘I’m no longer in Dr. Takabayashi’s office at all…’ She desperately wanted to know what was going on; she wanted to believe all of these events had a simple and logical explanation!

But she couldn’t shake this feeling of foreboding festering in her heart that told her what surrounded her now was not the welcoming darkness that she had come to know as an adult, no this was the nightmarish darkness of her childhood terrors!

Its suffocating weight seemed to settle around her insidiously, whispering promises of endless pain, and imaginary bogeymen. With sudden clarity she understood that this was not simply darkness but the complete and utter absence of light; in this place there was no hope, no comfort, and no love.

As this new insight settled into her mind her teeth began to chatter and the shivering she had been so valiantly holding at bay wracked her body mercilessly.

Like a child who buries their head under the blankets to prevent the monsters from getting them, Kagome squeezed her eyes shut trying to block out the colorless world she now seemed to inhabit, it was futile of course as she merely found more darkness behind the pseudo protection of her lids.

While she tried to decide what she should do now, a faint eerie blue light suddenly flooded the space around her.
