Wanting What Isn't Yours

Prompt: The Call Within- Dario Marianelli (Jane Eyre OST) 

He watched as she cried over the hanyou. He watched as she protected her friends despite her own weaknesses. He watched as she blossomed from a snivelling woman-child into a powerful miko. 

But he did nothing more. Why interact with these creatures, when they brought nothing but turmoil and suffering to those around them? They laughed and celebrated when all was well, but they saw it themselves- the pain just waiting underneath the surface; hungering for a chance to spread itself across their faces. 

And yet, it hurt. This desire to influence her, to taint her with his presence, his ideas and rules and methods. To see her become an instrument of his emotion, and yet, more than that. He wanted her. He wanted to touch her, to recieve her laughter- to be the one who had caused it. 

Many would scorn him if they knew the truth, that the great lord had been wrenched from all reason by a human. It didn't matter. He couldn't bring himself to care. He wanted her... but could not have her. Thus, he continued as he always had.

He watched.
