Sweet & Sour

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

She had a sweet tooth and her husband hated it. She couldn’t help it, once the aroma of a certain sweet whiffed through her nose or she catches sight of one, she would immediately desire it and buys it, no matter the price. Several times it led her to spending thousands of yen in one day, especially the exotic flavors of chocolate. Maybe she was a candy addict, did she need therapy?

Her husband, Sesshomaru, thought so.

It was so frustrating to eat a yummy honey bun or the sourest candy that made her face scrunch up without the man grabbing the treat and trashing the item. It made her sad and then angry, he was throwing away the one thing she immensely enjoyed since childhood, wasting it and the money she spent on it. Half the time she wanted to strangle the guy every time he threw a box away, and then she wanted to pull her hair out every time he finds her secret stash. Maybe she should stop hiding it under their bed.

It was a miracle that they got married, they were total opposite, especially in taste. She liked sweet stuff, with every meal there had to be something that tickled her tongue; fruity wine, soda or dessert. But Sesshomaru liked it bitter, his coffee black, no cream or sugar, any vegetable without a sweetened flavor, and he drank beer, an awful beverage no matter if it had a apple or strawberry extract. It was just disgusting.

She was currently hiding in the closet as her husband sat in the living room, watching the news as she hurriedly ate several sticks of strawberry pocky with a chocolate dip before Sesshomaru realized what she was up to. But alas, she knew the man was too smart as the next moment, light shined through the dark area and her box was snatched promptly out of her hand, leaving her discombobulated as everything happened in a few seconds.

“Sesshomaru! Give it back!” She whined, her mouth smeared with some chocolate, her wits coming together as she noticed the tall figure of her husband looming over her, the direction of the light shadowing his face. The man only looked at her, shook his head and walked away with the small box, planning to throw it away. “No! Don’t throw it away, I need that!”

“You don’t need it, so cease this behavior.” He was forced to drag her along as she rushed forward and took a hold of his leg, her body weighing down his movements. “You’ll get cavities if you keep this habit of yours up, I am only trying to prevent that.”

“Cavities shamivites, I brush my teeth three times a day! You just want to be my kryptonite and leave me with nothing!” The carpet rubbed against her exposed stomach, causing her to wince, but she was stubborn enough to deal with the pain. If she released her grip, it would be an easy victory for Sesshomaru. She couldn’t let that happen.

However, her weight didn’t stop him and they were soon in the kitchen near the trash can, where the man pressed his foot on the pedal and flipped the lid open, swiftly throwing her snack away. She sat there pouting, annoyed that something else of hers got thrown away. He is not gonna win this! She fiercely thought, trying to come up a way to sneak her intake on sweets under his nose. And the perfect opportunity arose the next day, when it was her day off and Sesshomaru was forced to stay in the office during late hours.

Giving the man a kiss goodbye as he left through the door, she quickly got herself ready for a trip to the store, having made a list the day before of the sweets she planned on buying. Locking the door, she was on her way, jittery for what was to come.

Several hours passed when she finally returned home, her hands full with bags. Sesshomaru still had hours left in the office before he came home, but by then, all of the candy she bought would either have been eaten or stashed away in her secret spot. Opening a box of sour gelatin cone-shaped pieces, she shoved some in her mouth, savoring in the taste as the inside of her cheeks tingled before the sweet flavor emerged, chewing after rolling the candy around her tongue to lose the sourness. Next, she opened another package of marshmallow animals, topped with sweet sugar and gooey insides. This continued into the night and an hour before Sesshomaru returned home, she lethargically hid the evidence, crawling to bed after doing so, and slept, her stomach very satisfied.

The following morning, she had difficulty chewing her breakfast, the syrup coated her teeth, bringing pain throughout her entire jaw. She couldn’t eat another bite and this garnered the attention of her husband.

“Is something wrong?” He asked, a blank look on his face. Every time he made that look, it meant trouble for her.

“Eh nothing, just not really hungry.” Shoving her food together, she hoped the cluster of everything near the out-rim of the plate would make it look smaller than it really was.

“Then why would you fill your plate up with an enormous amount of food? Are you deliberately wasting it?” His stare continued to unnerve her. She knew the man hated to waste anything, it would annoyed him the entire day, not that he would say anything directly about it, but she knew him and knew it irked him, but not candy, he didn‘t mind throwing that away. She opened her mouth, but was interrupted when Sesshomaru lifted his hand, a dreaded feeling creeping in. “I found something very…” He paused, causing her to straighten her posture. “interesting last night on the table.” What he found was the receipt from all the candy, totaling past thirty-thousand yen.

She could tell he was annoyed, by the way his brow ticked subtly and the way his lips frowning just slightly. Anyone else wouldn’t know, but her and his half-brother, Inuyasha.

“How many times did I have to tell you to stop eating candy, Kagome?” Sesshomaru asked, arms crossed as he patiently waited her answer.

Kagome felt very much like a child, and she pouted. “A dozen times…” She mumbled, using her fork to play around with the food.

“Yes, and from this large receipt I guess you ate nearly all of it yesterday.”

“Nearly…” She mumbled again, still playing with her food. She ate another piece of pancakes to stop the direction where the conversation was going, since it was the same thing since day one, but she winced when the syrup coated her back teeth.

Sesshomaru saw this. “You tooth now hurts.” He stated, returning back to his breakfast as Kagome rubbed her lower jaw. She grumbled, annoyed by his attitude. She knew she had to make a dental appointment, and that was she disliked the most, visiting a dentist’s office.

Sesshomaru called and scheduled for one, and luckily they had an opening the next day, but unfortunately for her, it was too soon.  Hours passed and her back teeth continued to hurt, unable to eat much that was gooey and sugary.

The day disappeared and arose another. Dressed in causal wear, she impatiently laid on the table, the assistant cleaning her teeth. Soon the actual dentist entered, placing on gloves and grabbing a dental mirror and a sickle probe, digging the tool uncomfortably in the two teeth in the back.

“You have two cavities, and they‘re kind of deep, I‘m surprise you‘re not in constant pain” The man said, removing the gloves after inspecting her mouth. “You need to schedule an appointment at the front desk for a filling.”

As she walked out, she spotted Sesshomaru watching TV; her husband took the day off to see her to her appointment. Sesshomaru heard every word, since the woman wasn’t quiet and after setting up another appointment, the duo exited and walked towards the car, the air quiet.

“I told you so.” Sesshomaru said after five minutes of driving.

Kagome huffed, folding her arms, “Oh, hush.”
