Best I Never Had by Aviel

Free Will

Disclaimer: Though it saddens me to say it, I don’t own anything relating to Takahashi-sensei’s Inuyasha. However, the plot and/or ideas of this drabble series do belong to me, and a nod of recognition goes to the creator of this challenge.

A/N: Had posted this a few days ago, but something went a little wonky… It should be fine now. :)

Chapter 2: Free Will

How did the spawn of humans think to stand against him? What was it about these unremarkable women that aroused such protective instincts in the Dog General and now his poor excuse of a brother?

Sesshoumaru’s fur bristled as his lips were shaped into a deranged grimace, revealing a maw full of sharp fangs. Corrosive acid spilled from his mouth while he assessed the situation in irritation.

The little female had denied him his rightful birthright and favored the whelp instead? Pitiful. The miserable half-breed could barely defend himself! Sesshoumaru would have simply ignored the girl if she hadn’t interfered, screeching loudly at him like his bothersome retainer. While it was true that he generally disliked the human race, he did not hate them. Such an emotion was exclusively reserved for his sire’s lover and their bastard son.

Had he not possessed their late father’s blood, Inuyasha would have been eliminated long ago. To kill him now would be just another stain on their family’s reputation and in fulfillment of another’s wishes. The daiyoukai rather enjoyed acting upon his own opinions, uncorrupted by someone else’s prejudices.

He grinned savagely.

The Western Lord only did what he pleased…with his own power.
